Orientalism is about much more than just information gathered about the East within its general postcolonial period. In this period, orientalism is a Western discourse that dominated and shaped the view of the East. There is “otherization” in the way the West has historically looked at the East and within the information presented about it. These original stories of travelers in the past and previous telling about the East are facing a reconstruction through modern types of media. Cinema, television, news, newspaper, magazine, internet, social media, photography, literature, and more are transforming the way the East is presented and viewed. Under the headings of post-orientalism, neo-orientalism, or self-orientalism, these new orientalist forms of work in combination with both new and traditional media are redefining orientalism in the media and beyond. The Handbook of Research on Contemporary Approaches to Orientalism in Media and Beyond shows how both new media and traditional media deal with orientalism today through the presentation of gender, race, religion, and culture that make up orientalist theory. The chapters focus on how orientalism is presented in the media, cinema, TV, photography, and more. This book is ideal for communications theorists, media analysts, practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students working in fields that include mass media, communications, film studies, ethnic studies, history, sociology, and cultural studies.

Creative Design In Industry And Architecture written by G. Berkin and has been published by WIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-10 with Architecture categories.

Covering the topics of architecture and industrial design Creative Design in Industry and Architecture argues that the discourse on design criteria for both professions share many similarities. It is not intended to be prescriptive, but is rather the outcome of a detailed design analysis of the works of a number of industrial and architectural designers. The authors sought to compare the cultural outcomes of vernacular design in an attempt to show that the design process does not need to be difficult or complicated. This book seeks to present a critical assessment of design processes which achieve innovation in the fields of both architectural and industrial disciplines. The book is therefore about creativity, design strategies and innovative understanding. With decades of academic experience, the authors are keen on the idea that creativity can be taught. They wrote this book from an ongoing pedagogical need to show students that the creative palette has a wide range. Case studies and their related theory which support this view are included within the chapters. The book also unveils the design dilemma; how design can become complicated when surrounded with intricate problems although it is the sum of simple solutions. Common theories and practices are exposed within the two disciplines through observation, analysis, experiment and reflection to discuss and gain insight. Both creative and practical approaches are analysed by making a historical study followed by the fundamentals reflecting the current situation and practical applications of the architectural and industrial design principles outlined in an extensive collection of examples. To educators this book is instructive, to the students deductive, to designers inspiring.

Creativity and design creativity in particular are being recognized as playing an increasing role in the social and economic wellbeing of a society. As a consequence creativity is becoming a focus of research. However, much of this burgeoning research is distributed across multiple disciplines that normally do not intersect with each other and researchers in one discipline are often unaware of related research in another discipline. This volume brings together contributions from design science, computer science, cognitive science and neuroscience on studying visual and spatial reasoning applicable to design creativity. The book is the result of a unique NSF-funded workshop held in Aix-en-Provence, France. The aim of the workshop and the resulting volume was to allow researchers in disparate disciplines to be exposed to the other’s research, research methods and research results within the context of design creativity. Fifteen of the papers presented and discussed at the workshop are contained in this volume. The contributors come from Germany, Israel, Netherlands, Poland, Singapore, UK and USA, indicating the international spread of the research presented in this volume.

Drawing from diverse subject areas including Social Anthropology, Narrative Theory, Consumer Psychology, Semiotics and Cultural Studies, Creative Advertising Concept and Copy provides a solid grounding in advertising education away from the traditional business and marketing literature. Notwithstanding the need for independent inspiration and originality, the author guides readers through the entire process of campaign planning, moving from strategy to creative idea to finished piece whilst employing concepts and principles relevant to ‘design thinking’. Taking into account ethics and regulations, the use of text and images, and storytelling across radio, TV and video platforms, readers will come to a holistic understanding of what advertising can (and cannot) do, and how to achieve the best results. Written for students involved in creative advertising as an area of academic research and professional practice, this book will also be of interest to early-career advertising professionals seeking a fresh perspective on their work.
