This book challenges the current thinking and strategies in the field of global peace and security. It is clear that current global public and private institutions are inadequate for the challenges we face today. These challenges cut across borders and require a more coordinated and concerted effort to find workable solutions. This book therefore begins with the question of global leadership and works its way back to the interconnected dynamics of global modernity and conflict. It is divided into four parts, each addressing a fundamental challenge to global peace and security. By exploring how we break out of the current framework, in which we understand global activities and the distribution of resources, and this book provides new ways of understanding the material, cultural, political, and spiritual relations that form the basis of international society.

World Peace written by Alex J. Bellamy and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-12 with Political Science categories.

For as long as there has been war, there have been demands for its elimination. The quest for world peace has excited and eluded political leaders, philosophers, religious elders, activists, and artists for millennia. With war on the rise once again, we rarely reflect on what world peace might look like; much less on how it might be achieved. World Peace aims to change all that and show that world peace is possible. Because the motives, rationales, and impulses that give rise to war - the quest for survival, enrichment, solidarity, and glory - are now better satisfied through peaceful means, war is an increasingly anachronistic practice, more likely to impoverish and harm us humans than satisfy and protect us. This book shows that we already have many of the institutions and practices needed to make peace possible and sets out an agenda for building world peace. In the immediate term, it shows how steps to strengthen compliance with international law, improve collective action such as international peacekeeping and peacebuilding, better regulate the flow of arms, and hold individuals legally accountable for acts of aggression or atrocity crimes can make our world more peaceful. It also shows how in the long term, building strong and legitimate states that protect the rights and secure the livelihoods of their people, gender equal societies, and protecting the right of individuals to opt-out of wars has the potential to establish and sustain world peace. But it will only happen, if individuals organize to make it happen.

Future Peace written by Robert H. Latiff and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03 with categories.

Future Peace urges extreme caution in the adoption of new weapons technology and is an impassioned plea for peace from an individual who spent decades preparing for war. Today's militaries are increasingly reliant on highly networked autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, and advanced weapons that were previously the domain of science fiction writers. In a world where these complex technologies clash with escalating international tensions, what can we do to decrease the chances of war? In Future Peace, the eagerly awaited sequel to Future War, Robert H. Latiff questions our overreliance on technology and examines the pressure-cooker scenario created by the growing animosity between the United States and its adversaries, our globally deployed and thinly stretched military, the capacity for advanced technology to catalyze violence, and the American public's lack of familiarity with these topics. Future Peace describes the many provocations to violence, how technologies are abetting those urges, and explores what can be done to mitigate not only dangerous human behaviors but also dangerous technical behaviors as well. Latiff concludes that peace is possible but will require intense, cooperative efforts on the part of technologists, military leaders, diplomats, politicians, and citizens. Future Peace amplifies some well-known ideas about how to address the issues, and provides far-, mid-, and short-term recommendations for actions that are necessary to reverse the apparent headlong rush into conflict. This compelling and timely book will captivate general readers, students, and scholars of global affairs, international security, arms control, and military ethics.

The Constitutional Foundations Of World Peace written by Richard A. Falk and has been published by SUNY Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-07-01 with Political Science categories.

This book shows how significant a worldwide constitutional framework can be, both analytically and politically, in efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace. The authors are careful to avoid the pitfalls of legalism and moralism that have often afflicted discussion of world governance in the past, and their analyses are rooted directly within contemporary human struggles for peace, justice, prosperity, and environmentally sustainable societies. The authors demonstrate that when these struggles are examined in light of the planet’s changing constitutional framework, their origins and future trajectories are more fathomable intellectually. By examining alternative images of world order, these authors uncover an abundance of practical yet bold policy recommendations for addressing and solving global problems. They also demonstrate that implementing desirable policies can indeed become politically feasible. This book is a compendium of new ideas for managing threats to peace, enhancing U. N. peacekeeping, establishing an effective global environmental authority, aiding the faltering global economy, nurturing the growth of democracy both locally and globally, protecting human rights and ethnic diversity, holding governments and intergovernmental organizations accountable to those they govern, and nurturing humanitarian values among all people.
