This book describes the diseases that are most frequently encountered during general medical consultation. The discussion of each condition includes the following: Introductory paragraph. This section summarizes the condition, its definition, main clinical characteristics, and epidemiology, as a quick guide for the doctor regarding the specific disease, the type of people who may suffer from it, and its prognosis. Etiopathogenesis. Here, the causes of the disease are explained in a simple and concrete manner to give the doctor a clearer picture of the pathology of the disease. Signs and symptoms. In this section the most significant characteristics of the disease are described, which makes it possible to identify and differentiate the disease from other similar ones. Diagnosis. This section provides the key information to establish the diagnosis of each condition. In most cases, the clinical information is explained in such a way that neither laboratory nor office testing will be required. Treatment. This section contains a concise listing of the most effective, current, accessible, and least toxic drugs to treat the disease, together with dosages for adults and children (where applicable), in addition to the length of time that the drug should be taken. Almost all of the drugs described are available in generic form, which is an important economic consideration for the patient. In Mexico and many other countries, the quality of these products is verified by bioequivalence tests to compare the activity of the patent drug with the generic one. Most physicians need to prescribe fewer than 100 different drugs for their various patients. Therefore, it is much more important, especially in terms of patient safety, that the doctor have in-depth prescription information about a few drugs, than to know a little about a wide range of drugs that he/she may never have the opportunity to prescribe.

No one has the right to equate Christianity with weakness or to imagine that the Bible teaches us always to surrender. The biblical message proclaims the sovereign greatness of God which transcends all lesser principles or standards which we might wish to draw from it. Man's great temptation is to want to know by himself what is good and what is evil. He wants to know whether he should withstand or not, but without needing any counsel from God. What is good in the Bible is not this thing or that. It is not a matter of resisting or giving in. It is doing what God wants and when he wants it: it is total dependence upon his person, not upon a moral code.

Being a doctor and going to the doctor are theological issues. A major thesis of the book is that a de-medicalization of physicians is necessary and should be replaced by a Scripto-centric approach to life in the practice of medicine. This call is radical, humanly speaking, but we have a God Who has given much to us as Christian physicians and expects much of us. There is a biblical view of the practice of medicine, and it is the major avenue that patients have for reaching true comfort and help. Each physician must be able to articulate it and the book is written for that purpose. A rightly understood biblical view of medicine is the only way that doctors have for giving genuine hope to hurting people and for the advancement of God s kingdom.

Paul Tournier has practised medicine in Geneva since 1928, as a physician who acquired psychiatric training and experience because he learned that many of his patients needed help going deeper than drugs or surgery. Many of his books are in paperback editions, including The Adventure of Living, Escape from Loneliness, Learning to Grow Old, Marriage Difficulties, The Meaning of Persons, The Person Reborn, A Place for You and The Strong and the Weak. About A Doctor's Casebook Dr William Barclay wrote in The Expository Times: `This is a beautiful book, written by a man who is skilled in medicine and wise towards God. It is so well translated that no one would know that it is a translation. Dr Tournier's mastery of Scripture is astonishing.' Alasdair Maclntyre wrote in The Guardian: `A book of many virtues. Dr Tournier faces the questions whicfi so many avoid. "Just how is divine power active in the world? Is not belief in such a power simply a retreat from science into magic?".' And the Church Times described the book as one 'of exceptional interest to all who are concerned with the problems of healing . . . a work of the deepest spiritual insight'.

Although GPs delegate many of their management and administration functions to practice managers and other highly qualified staff, it is crucial for them to remain aware of how they are paid, how their income is taxed, how their tax will be settled, and the numerous financial problems that can arise in partnerships. Sound financial management is vital if these pitfalls are to be avoided. Written by specialists in the increasingly complex area of practice finance, this is an accessible guide for non-specialists, providing answers to routine queries and illustrating typical situations with worked examples.

In the light both of the Bible and of modern science we are confronted not with an abstract and generalized man, but with men who are concrete and personal. They are always in their context, in a certain relationship to the world, to others, and to God. They are always changing. This changing is made up of seasons, stages in their lives, each of which has its own characteristics and peculiar laws. It is in this life story that God's plan may be accomplished. This is what is intimated by the title The Seasons of Life: a man in movement, continually undergoing change, a man living in history, unfolding from his birth until his death. The very movement implies meaning in life.

Scripture And Counseling written by Bob Kellemen and has been published by Zondervan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-07 with Religion categories.

What role does Scripture play in counseling? Today, we face a weakening of confidence in the Bible. This is just as true for the pastor offering counsel in his office as it is for the person in the pew talking with a struggling friend. We need to regain our confidence in God's living Word as sufficient to address the real-life issues we face today. Scripture and Counseling will help you understand how the Bible equips us to grow in counseling competence as we use it to tackle the complex issues of life. Divided into two sections, Part One develops a robust biblical view of Scripture’s sufficiency for "life and godliness" leading to increased confidence in God's Word. Part Two teaches how to use Scripture in the counseling process. This section demonstrates how a firm grasp of the sufficiency of Scripture leads to increased competence in the ancient art of personally ministering God's Word to others. Part of the Biblical Counseling Coalition series, Scripture and Counseling brings you the wisdom of twenty ministry leaders who write so you can have confidence that God’s Word is sufficient, necessary, and relevant to equip God’s people to address the complex issues of life in a broken world. It blends theological wisdom with practical expertise and is accessible to pastors, church leaders, counseling practitioners, and students, equipping them to minister the truth and power of God’s word in the context of biblical counseling, soul care, spiritual direction, pastoral care, and small group facilitation.
