A comprehensive, scholarly accessible study, in which the authors draw upon poetry and mythology, art and literature, archaeology and psychology to show how the myth of the goddess has been lost from our formal Judeo-Christian images of the divine. They explain what happened to the goddess, when, and how she was excluded from western culture, and the implications of this loss.

Through The Goddess written by Patricia Reis and has been published by Burns & Oates this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991 with Archetype (Psychology) categories.

"Drawing on her wide background in depth psychology, art, and archeology, Patricia Reis gives a unique feminist reading to the meaning of the Goddess. Through personal experience and reflection, through women's creative productions, and above all through examples from the lives of women she has guided in her practice of therapeia, Through the Goddess shows the indwelling Goddess to be a much-needed resource for physical, spiritual, and psychological healing." "Utilizing pre-patriarchal Goddess images for inspiration and information, Reis shows how the earliest Goddess images provide important bedrock symbols of female wholeness that are lacking in the later Greek Goddesses who are often patriarchally influenced and reflect instead the suffering and fragmented aspects of women, which correspond to contemporary women's struggles for self-acceptance." "Reis further develops a newly emerging archetype: that of the female body. Through the work of women poets and artists, Reis shows how women today can heal personally and collectively from abuse, incest, eating disorders, and from the sometimes devastating effects of breast cancer by initiation into and through the Goddess."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. No matter whether you're a pouting priestess, boardroom babe, feathery fairy, earth mother or warrior woman, there comes a time when every goddess gal needs to hold up her sword and claim her authentic self. This is exactly what Anita Revel has been doing over the last 10 years. Tired of being a fizzled out corporate stress-chick, she made a sea change from Sydney to Margaret River in search of a happy beginning. What she found instead was a brown-eyed calf named Missy Moo and 52 archetypal goddesses with life lessons to share. Anita wrote about her lessons in her columns for United Press International. Sometimes poignant, infinitely insightful, but mostly snort-your-milk hilarious, Anita's journey has led her to successfully 'out' her goddess within.

Shakespeare The Goddess And Modernity written by John O'Meara and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Literary Criticism categories.

"O'Meara's work is the perfect supplement to [Ted] Hughes's "Shakespeare and the Goddess of Complete Being", shedding further illumination into those areas where Hughes's penetrating lens finally appears to dim. [This work] shines utterly clear light on the path of understanding we may re-win with regard to myth, forcing the reader to face the incredible starkness of the prospect we face—and the lack of options—ever closing in—and also giving the reader the necessary clues to follow, particularly Barfield, Shakespeare and Rudolf Steiner." —Richard Ramsbotham, author of Who Wrote Bacon? William Shakespeare, Francis Bacon and James I "Very interesting stuff. Particularly where you parallel the break through the tragic dead end to the transcendental-redemptive solution--that I follow from "Macbeth" through "Lear" to the last plays--with the Steinerian view of the same progress." —Ted Hughes on Othello's Sacrifice, Letter to John O'Meara, 21 November, 1996, in the Ted Hughes Archives, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia This volume brings together virtually all of the published shorter critical work of John O'Meara, gathered from over 30 years of production. What emerges is an extensive, uniquely challenging interpretation of the evolution of, for the most part, English literary history, from Shakespeare's time to our own. "excellent Shakespearean explorations...The idea of Lutheran depravity without Lutheran grace or Lutheran-Calvinist justification is very strong and original..." —Anthony Gash, author of The Substance of Shadows: Shakespeare's Dialogue with Plato "O'Meara sets out to demonstrate... the essential fact that "full encounter with human depravity" was[/is] a necessary step in the attaining of true [otherworldly] Imagination." —Eric Philips-Oxford, on The New School of the Imagination from the Sektion fur Schone Wissenschaften, the Goetheanum, Newsletter, Issue No. 3, Winter/Spring 2008-2009.

The Constant and Changing Faces of the Goddess: Goddess Traditions of Asia contains essays written by established scholars in the field that trace the multiplicity of Asian goddesses: their continuities, discontinuities, and importance as symbols of wisdom, power, transformation, compassion, destruction, and creation. The essays demonstrate that while treatments of the goddess may vary regionally, culturally, and historically, it is possible to note some consistencies in the overall picture of the goddess in Asia. The book provides a comprehensive treatment of the goddess, culminating in the selections that draw from research on Indian, Nepali, Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese traditions, seldom found in other works of similar subject. The volume will be useful for students in religious studies, gender studies, Asian studies, and women's studies. With the intent of making the volume truly broad in scope, an effort has been made to include works written by art historians, sociologists, anthropologists, and religious studies scholars. Culture cannot be separated from religion; they are intertwined as an organic whole, and variations manifest themselves in the rituals and daily lives of the people. In this sense, all the essays are interconnected: the goddess manifests in many forms and appeals to differing aspects of a particular culture as a paradigm of the divine feminine.

Given To The Goddess written by Lucinda Ramberg and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-08-27 with Social Science categories.

Who and what are marriage and sex for? Whose practices and which ways of talking to god can count as religion? Lucinda Ramberg considers these questions based upon two years of ethnographic research on an ongoing South Indian practice of dedication in which girls, and sometimes boys, are married to a goddess. Called devadasis, or jogatis, those dedicated become female and male women who conduct the rites of the goddess outside the walls of her main temple and transact in sex outside the bounds of conjugal matrimony. Marriage to the goddess, as well as the rites that the dedication ceremony authorizes jogatis to perform, have long been seen as illegitimate and criminalized. Kinship with the goddess is productive for the families who dedicate their children, Ramberg argues, and yet it cannot conform to modern conceptions of gender, family, or religion. This nonconformity, she suggests, speaks to the limitations of modern categories, as well as to the possibilities of relations—between and among humans and deities—that exceed such categories.
