Find God’s vision for your job. Reclaim God’s vision for your life. Many Christians fall victim to one of two main problems when it comes to work: either they are idle in their work, or they have made an idol of it. Both of these mindsets are deadly misunderstandings of how God intends for us to think about our employment. In The Gospel at Work, Sebastian Traeger and Greg Gilbert unpack the powerful ways in which the gospel can transform how we do what we do, releasing us from the cultural pressures of both an all-consuming devotion and a punch-in, punch-out mentality—in order to find the freedom of a work ethic rooted in serving Christ. You’ll find answers to some of the tough questions that Christians in the workplace often ask: What factors should matter most in choosing a job? What gospel principles should shape my thinking about how to treat my boss, my co-workers, and my employees? Is full-time Christian work more valuable than my job? Is it okay to be motivated by money? How do you prioritize—or balance—work, family and church responsibilities? Solidly grounded in the gospel, The Gospel at Work confronts both our idleness at work and our idolatry of work with a challenge of its own—to remember that whom we work for is infinitely more important than what we do.

Work is core to our lives. And the gospel is core to our faith. In this Bible study, author and executive coach Stephen Graves introduces a fresh framework that explores not only how the gospel should shape our work but also how it could. Too often taking our faith into the workplace amounts to evangelism or moral responsibility. Although there is certainly nothing wrong with either practice, this study takes us further into our faith in such a way that we embody the gospel as a part of our work, office, home, or anywhere work may take us. This study employs a Four-Act Gospel: Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Renewal. Using this approach, we can be in the business of both helping individuals know Jesus and contributing to God's mission of renewing the world. Applying the Four-Act Gospel to our work is captured in the Baseline (the lowest-common-denominator application of the gospel that is relevant to all workers) and the Blue Sky (individualized applications of the gospel to each person's particular wiring and particular organizations). This framework helps us understand the reach, power, and intent of the gospel's going to work. These are revolutionary insights, even for veterans of the faith. This Bible-study experience includes free downloadable panel discussions and "The Gospel Goes to Work" podcast series. These tools allow groups to participate from practically anywhere and in any way they like, whether in a restaurant, in a coffee shop, in a classroom, or even via email or mobile technology. The Gospel Goes to Work Bible Study Book includes exercises and discussion for individuals and groups, along with links to free video downloads and additional enrichment tools. Session Topics: 1. The Gospel and Work 2. What Should We Do? Lessons from John the Baptist 3. Individual Baseline: David's Personal Calling 4. Individual Blue Sky: Take the Armor 5. Every Good Endeavour written by Timothy Keller and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-11-22 with Religion categories.

In today's increasingly competitive and insecure economic environment, we often question the reason for work: why am I doing this? Why is it so hard? And what can I do about it? Work may seem just a means to an end: we do it to earn the money to enjoy life outside the workplace. Here, Timothy Keller argues that God's plan is radically more ambitious: he actually created us to work. We are to work together to make the world a better place, to help each other, and so to find purpose for our lives. Our faith should enhance our work, and our work should develop our faith. With deep insight, Timothy Keller draws on essential and relevant biblical wisdom to address our questions about work. There is grace available if we have taken the wrong attitude, idolising money and using our careers to glorify ourselves rather than God. This book provides the foundations for a work-life balance where we can thrive both personally and professionally. Keller shows how through excellence, integrity, discipline, creativity and passion in the workplace we can impact society for good.Developing a better attitude to work releases us to serve others humbly, to worship God everyday, and leaves us deeply fulfilled.

The problem isn’t sex. God designed sex; and sex is good. Sex is a powerful union that brings men and women together. But when sex is distorted by sin, the misuse of our sexuality can alienate us from one another, causing immense harm and pain. Enter pornography—the most prevalent distortion of sexual sin in America. Pornography is not only a problem in terms of personal morality, but a social epidemic that is making the possibility of sexually-fulfilled marriages harder to achieve. It is rewiring our brains to think about sexuality in destructive ways. We have a very serious problem, and it’s not isolated to any one segment of culture. So, what now? Editors Russell Moore and Andrew T. Walker of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) assemble leading voices to frame the issue with a gospel-centered perspective. The Gospel for Life series gives every believer a biblically-saturated understanding of the most urgent issues facing our culture today, because the gospel is for all of life.

You are not what you do. So often, in America, we define who we are by what we do. We introduce ourselves by our job titles. We ask, “What do you do?” to be polite in small talk. We define others by their occupation. But there are good reasons to connect what you do with your time, whether that is 9-to-5 work, or managing a household full of children. God created us to work, not as judgment, but in cooperation with a mandate given to humanity long before the fall. Your work isn’t who you are, but it is central to why you are here. When we get that confused, our work can be the most frustrating aspect of our lives.

The Gospel Of The Working Class written by Erik S. Gellman and has been published by University of Illinois Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-07-15 with Social Science categories.

In this exceptional dual biography and cultural history, Erik S. Gellman and Jarod Roll trace the influence of two southern activist preachers, one black and one white, who used their ministry to organize the working class in the 1930s and 1940s across lines of gender, race, and geography. Owen Whitfield and Claude Williams, along with their wives Zella Whitfield and Joyce Williams, drew on their bedrock religious beliefs to stir ordinary men and women to demand social and economic justice in the eras of the Great Depression, New Deal, and Second World War. Williams and Whitfield preached a working-class gospel rooted in the American creed that hard, productive work entitled people to a decent standard of living. Gellman and Roll detail how the two preachers galvanized thousands of farm and industrial workers for the Southern Tenant Farmers Union and the Congress of Industrial Organizations. They also link the activism of the 1930s and 1940s to that of the 1960s and emphasize the central role of the ministers' wives, with whom they established the People's Institute for Applied Religion. This detailed narrative illuminates a cast of characters who became the two couples' closest allies in coordinating a complex network of activists that transcended Jim Crow racial divisions, blurring conventional categories and boundaries to help black and white workers make better lives. In chronicling the shifting contexts of the actions of Whitfield and Williams, The Gospel of the Working Class situates Christian theology within the struggles of some of America's most downtrodden workers, transforming the dominant narratives of the era and offering a fresh view of the promise and instability of religion and civil rights unionism.
