Reviews from Amazon.com: Touring America's national parks has become a passtime for me. I've been from Acadia to the North Cascades to the Grand Canyon and this book is an excellent reference. With an emphasis on travelling via automobile, it also has several suggested hiking trips in each park as well as other points of interest. They say that most people never get more than 100 feet from their cars in parks. Well, this is the book to help get you there, and point out the best routes outside of your car. It covers more territory than anyone could possibly see in a lifetime...but it's sure fun to try. ... describes 53 national parks and monuments in depth... giving advice on how to plan your time - vital when it comes to setting schedule priorities. Ludmer's tips are invaluable. Physician's Travel & Meeting Guide. Although it does not include every site administered by the NPS, this book is very thorough in its treatment of the 50 parks it covers. The author also describes 13 suggested driving trips of five to 12 days each, incorporating nearby attractions. Includes detailed information on accommodations/campgrounds, activities available in each park, handy tips and tidbits, maps and photos. A great travel reference book!

Off The Map written by Bryan Snyder and has been published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-08 with Alaska categories.

Off The Map is a collection of fifty-five outdoor adventures that take place along the rougher and more precarious edges of our country's natural splendor. Within these stories, the author engages in ill-advised confrontations with the bears of Montana's Bob Marshall Wilderness, the mosquitoes of Yellowstone, and the voracious marmots of the San Juan Mountains. Driven by an unhealthy obsession with cliffs and mountaintops, the author also ventures into such serene and surreal landscapes as the redrock ravines of Utah, the abandoned gold mines of Colorado, the icefields of Iceland, the volcanic peaks of the Cascades, the depths of the Grand Canyon, and the lightning-scarred summits of the Southern Rockies. If you enjoy tales of haunted hotels and hot springs, hypothermia and heat exhaustion, as well as snapshots of the most scenic locations this continent has to offer, Off The Map will satisfy your inquisitive and adventurous spirit. Originally printed in New York's Evening Sun newspaper and collected here for the first time.

“A rallying cry in the age of climate change.” —Robert Redford An environmental clarion call, told through bestselling author David Gessner’s wilderness road trip inspired by America’s greatest conservationist, Theodore Roosevelt. “Leave it as it is,” Theodore Roosevelt announced while viewing the Grand Canyon for the first time. “The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.” Roosevelt’s rallying cry signaled the beginning of an environmental fight that still wages today. To reconnect with the American wilderness and with the president who courageously protected it, acclaimed nature writer and New York Times bestselling author David Gessner embarks on a great American road trip guided by Roosevelt’s crusading environmental legacy. Gessner travels to the Dakota badlands where Roosevelt awakened as a naturalist; to Yellowstone, Yosemite and the Grand Canyon where Roosevelt escaped during the grind of his reelection tour; and finally, to Bears Ears, Utah, a monument proposed by Native Tribes that is embroiled in a national conservation fight. Along the way, Gessner questions and reimagines Roosevelt’s vision for today. As Gessner journeys through the grandeur of our public lands, he tells the story of Roosevelt’s life as a pioneering conservationist, offering an arresting history, a powerful call to arms, and a profound meditation on our environmental future.
