Someone once said: Many books have been written about Bobby Fischer. Maybe a voice will be heard in this day and age when only yesterday seems as distant history: Will all this be interesting after another twenty years have passed? Maybe there is some truth in that... However, there are people who seek the truth and then there are those whom the truth seeks. Upon this I found my motive for writing this book. All the truth I carried in me all these years finally found a way to reveal itself despite all the lies, half-truths, and testimonies which were only a collection of retold stories from those who were only passersby in the life of this chess mastermind. So. If someone were to accidently find a document which describes in detail Leonardo`s painting of Mona Lisa, a document which would finally answer the question: For whom did the mystery of all time intend her extremely enigmatic smile? Would this tell us more than we should know? Or if we found out how Michelangelo brought stone to life? Would it be worth it to see directly how Kafka went from being a modest insurance officer to being one of the most influential writers in the history of literature? Or how Jimmy Hendrix managed to make his guitar cry, scream or laugh by producing such magical tones? On this occasion I strongly urge anyone who knows to tell me how did Pat Riley summon the dragon`s spirit in the forms of Earvin Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; this spirit takes them like the wind from coast to coast, clearing everything that stands in the way, and makes basketball graceful as poetry. Surely it would be nice to know what depths of emotion did Pink Floyd explore while creating Wish You Were Here. To sort out dilemma in at least one segment of human creativity, I will tell you: How did Bobby Fischer grow up, the greatest one of all time in the game of 64 black and white squares? What crucially influenced his spiritual development and chess mastery? Why did he so passionately and madly hate Communists and Jews? How did he ascend to the chess throne? Why did he disappear after becoming World Chess Champion in the collision of the worlds match held in cold and far away Iceland? And where did he hide from people and public eye for the next 20 years? Why did he return to chess and why that took place exactly in Yugoslavia during the 1990s? Was he angry with the government of his country for condemning him for not following the strict UN embargo or did he channel his negative feelings towards the people in his country? How did he meet and correspond with Slobodan Milosevic? And why did he like him? Was Radovan Karadzic, who is currently on trial in The Hague, "accidentally" next door to Bobby Fischer in Interkontinental Hotel in Belgrade? Was he ever in love and who were the women in his life? How did he practice? How did he play? Where did he find inspiration? Did his private life suffer while he lived and breathed chess? Why did his heavenly prospects turn into tragedy? And everything else you ever wanted to know or ask about the "undefeated world champion", you will find on the pages of the book titled The Great Secret of Bobby Fischer.

Jose Raul Capablanca is renowned for his exquisite positional play and flawless endgame technique. But The Chess Machine was also a master of that other way to deliver mate: the attack on the enemy king.In this groundbreaking work, award-winning chess coach and author Frisco Del Rosario shines a long-overdue light on this neglected aspect of Capablanca's record. He illustrates how the Cuban genius used positional concepts to build up irresistible king hunts, embodying the principles of good play advocated by the unequaled teacher, C.J.S. Purdy. The author also identifies an overlooked checkmate pattern - Capablanca's Mate - that aspiring attackers can add to the standard catalogue in Renaud and Kahn's The Art of the Checkmate. As Del Rosario shows, Capablanca has inspired not only generations of players, but also many of the classics of chess literature.Easy to read but chock-full of advice for study and practical play, Capablanca: A Primer of Checkmate fills a gaping hole in our understanding of the third World Champion.

Searching For Bobby Fischer written by Fred Waitzkin and has been published by Open Road Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02-07 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

The inspiration for the iconic film, this memoir by the father of a prodigy reflects on chess, competition, and childhood. Fred Waitzkin fell in love with chess during the Cold War–era showdown between Russian champion Boris Spassky and young American superstar Bobby Fischer. Twelve years later, Waitzkin’s own son, Joshua, discovered chess in Washington Square Park and began displaying the telltale signs of a prodigy. Soon, crowds gathered to watch the six-year-old, calling him a “Young Fischer.” An unstoppable player, little Josh was suddenly catapulted into the intense world of competitive chess. When Josh first sat down at a chessboard, he was a charming, rambunctious, rough-and-tumble child. Within weeks, he was playing the game with poise and constrained violence, as if there were a wise old man plotting moves inside him. Then, renowned coach Bruce Pandolfini discovered Josh in the park and began to refine the child’s game. In Searching for Bobby Fischer, Waitzkin recounts his journey with his son into the world of chess, from the colorful milieu of street hustlers to the international network of grandmasters. Looming large over their story is the elusive Bobby Fischer, whose mysterious disappearance from the chess world created a vacuum that would profoundly affect young Josh and his dad. Josh went on to win eight national championships before he turned twenty—but his achievements did not come without cost. In this memoir, Waitzkin explores his love and ambition for Josh, who faces pressures far beyond his years. Even as father and son travel to Moscow to watch Kasparov challenge Karpov, Waitzkin doubts his own motives: Is he pushing his son too hard? Is the game a joy to Josh, or is he just fulfilling his father’s wishes? Searching for Bobby Fischer is about more than chess. “A little gem of a book,” it is ultimately about the struggle we all face to love our families and do right by them while also setting our own paths as individuals (The New York Times).

This work describes the personalities and achievements of some of blindfold chess's greatest players--including Philidor, Morphy, Blackburne, Zukertort, Pillsbury, Reti, Alekhine, Koltanowski, Najdorf and Fine, as well as present-day grandmasters such as Anand and Kramnik. Including some never before published, 444 games scores are presented, peppered with diagrams and annotations. Hints for playing blindfold, and its practical value, are also included.

When Bobby Fischer died in January 2008, he left behind a confounding legacy. Everyone knew the basics of his life: he began as a brilliant youngster, then became the pride of American chess, then took a sharp turn, struggling with paranoia and mental illness. But nobody truly understood him. What motivated him from such a young age, and what was the source of his remarkable intellect? How could a man so ambivalent about money and fame be so driven to succeed? What drew this man of Jewish descent to fulminate against Jews, and how was it that a mind so famously disciplined could unravel so completely? From his meteoric rise, to an utterly dominant prime, to his eventual descent into madness, the book draws upon hundreds of newly discovered documents and recordings, and numerous firsthand interviews conducted with those who knew Fischer best, to paint, for the very first time, a complete picture of one of the most enigmatic icons. This is the definitive account of a fascinating man and an extraordinary life, one that at last reconciles Fischer's deeply contradictory legacy and answers the question: 'Who was Bobby Fischer?'

This is the only book ever written entirely by Bobby Fischer. It is not to be confused with other books with similar names that were written by other authors. Here is the blurb on the original dust jacket, as published in 1959: THERE ARE 34 games in this book. The 13 from the U.S. Championship Tournament of 1957-58 and the prize-winning "Game of the Century" from the Third Rosenwald Trophy Tournament are penetratingly analyzed by Bobby Fischer, whose annotations provide invaluable instructions to the chess player of either average or advanced ability. In addition, this book includes the scores of Bobby Fischer's 20 games from the 1958 Portoroz Interzonal Tournament in which he played against the world's elite in chess, among them Tal, Gligorich, Petrosyan, and Bronstein. The games in this book reveal Bobby Fischer's brilliance in middle and end-game strategy, and also the latest and soundest treatments of popular openings-in particular, the Sicilian and King's Indian defenses. By playing these games over, the reader will become familiar with the patterns of the latest and soundest lines in chess, and will automatically begin to make stronger moves in his own games. At the age of fifteen, Bobby Fischer was the youngest international grandmaster of all time. He lives in Brooklyn, was a junior at Erasmus Hall High School, and looking forward to the 1959 Candidates' Tournament, the winner of which challenges Mikhail Botvinnik for the world championship. In this personal journey through a unique performing art, David Copperfield profiles some of the world's most groundbreaking magicians. From the sixteenth-century magistrate who wrote an early book on conjuring, to the roaring twenties and the man who fooled Houdini, to the woman who levitated, vanished, and caught bullets in her bare hands, David Copperfield's History of Magic takes you on a wild journey through the remarkable feats of some of the greatest magicians in history. The result is a sweeping tale that reveals how these astonishing performers were outsiders who used magic to escape class, challenge conventions, transform popular culture, explore the innermost workings of the human mind, and inspire scientific discovery. Their incredible stories are complemented by more than 100 never-before-seen photographs of artifacts from Copperfield's exclusive Museum of Magic, including a sixteenth-century manual on sleight-of-hand; Houdini's straitjackets, handcuffs, and water torture chamber; Dante's famous sawing-in-half apparatus; Alexander's high-tech turban that allowed him to read people's minds; and even some coins that may have magically passed through the hands of Abraham Lincoln. By the end of the book, you'll be sure to share Copperfield's passion for the power of magic. --
