Haiku Form written by Joan Giroux and has been published by Tuttle Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989-12-15 with Poetry categories.

This classic book is a collection and analysis of Japanese haiku in the English language. The Haiku is a brief poetic form expressing a moment of insight. No foreign form since the sonnet has so fascinated and challenged the poets of the English-speaking world. Yet no scholar or critic, until now, has undertaken a definitive study of the problems of writing haiku in English. This book, the first of its kind, examines English language haiku in the light of Japanese form. Author Joan Giroux explicates the meaning and history of the Japanese haiku, its cultural background the creative process which gives it birth and the technical devices developed by Japanese poets over the centuries. Examples by classic and contemporary poets, including Basho and Buson, Shiki and Hastutaro, are given Romanized Japanese and in English translation. Poems, in English, from early efforts by Ezra Pound and Wallace Stevens to work of contemporaries like James Hackett, are discussed and evaluated. Wherever possible, comparisons are made, contrast indicated and suggestions given, with a rare sensitivity to the poetic possibilities of both languages and keen appreciation of the unique qualities of both cultures.

Answer Then Question written by Ian Ebbitt and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12 with Poetry categories.

Ian's debut book, Answer Then Question: Haikus and Other Poems is a collection of poetry comprised of both fictional and non-fictional inspirations. Ian takes a traditional style in Haikus and puts a modern taste to them. Some of Ian's poems are based on his life events and accounts but others are not at all, especially the more melancholy ones. Ian tends to take an actors approach to many of his poems, as in he gets most of his inspiration from observing people and then imagines a situation or scenario and puts himself in as the character of that story. He delves into these fictional situations so much so that as the reader you cannot believe that the events are not his own. Ian has yet to find a subject matter that he will not write and pour himself into. This book demonstrates just that with the wide range of topics he covers. Unlike some writers and poets that stick to particular themes of interest, Ian mixes them up with his favorite being EVERYTHING.

The Japanese poetry form of haiku is perfect for capturing moments of time and reflecting on life. Using it to ponder life's deepest questions and universal truth is something poets have been doing for centuries. During the year of 2020, writing haiku each day helped me stay grounded in a world that seemed to be falling apart. It gave me a moment to be present and think about what I value, what is important to me, and how to give back to others. I hope this book does the same and helps you appreciate all the amazing miracles-big and small-that exist in the world. In this book, you will find over 100 haiku and five mini essays centered around Mindfulness, Compassion, Gratitude, Love & Loss, and Give & Forgive. Each chapter ends with questions for your own reflection or inspiration. Feel free to ponder them at your leisure. Your purchase of this book helps support me (Anthony Nanfito) as an independent author, as well as my podcast: The Haiku Pond. The first season of the podcast features selected haiku from this book as well as haiku submitted by other poets. You can listen wherever you get your podcasts.
