Trauma, Shame, and Secret Making provides a descriptive, qualitative inquiry into a family’s unsuccessful attempts across generations to repress the memories of an early life trauma. Broad in its scope, Trauma, Shame, and Secret Making explores more than one hundred years in the life of a single family, offering students and professionals invaluable insight into the consequences of prolonged narrative suppression in the social life of people. The book models a converging interdisciplinary approach to inquiry across specializations spanning traumatology, family therapy, psychology, psychiatry and social work. The model is consistent with an evolving paradigm of medical, public health and social service practice based on biopsychosocial evaluation of all patients.

Together they uncover a murky web of intrigue and greed, hoards of Nazi gold and hidden Swiss bank accounts. All implicate wealthy banker Sir Eric Newman. When Newman goes on trial, unexpected clues are discovered pointing the way to a mystery that has haunted the Catholic Church for centuries. On a dangerous journey to find the relic, Rogan and his companions trace links back as far as the reign of Akhenaten, the heretic pharaoh of ancient Egypt, and King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. ABOUT THE BOOK The Book is an interdisciplinary textbook, written with the intent of introducing two new concepts. A. The Association Constant (Ka) versus Entropy and Chaos. 1. The formation and evolution of chemical and biological compounds on atomic and molecular scales are the work of the four natural forces, enhanced by the existence of the natural constants and their remarkable adjustment. And the work of the covalent and noncovalent forces (bonds) being derived from the natural forces. So is the evolution of living organisms but with the essential and indispensable impact of the environment, violent and punctuate. 2. The effects of the natural forces (through the covalent and noncovalent bonds) is expressed by Ka. Therefore, Ka preserves what nature accomplishes by protecting matter against the action of entropy (a faulty distribution of matter), and by preserving free energy (-ΔG) against the action of chaos (a faulty distribution of energy). Evolution is an obligation to elegance and wisdom. 3. The Book draws straight and clear line connecting general relativity, i.e. gravity (the infinite large), quantum mechanics (the infinite small), and biology (the infinite complex). B. Individuality of the Human Genome. 1. Our uniqueness as species (Homo sapiens) is invariantly encoded in the protein-coding genes (about 2 percent of our DNA). These genes are invariably found in every human being. They are species - specific, responsible for the human genesis and form the human genophenotype. Our uniqueness as individuals variantly resides in the rest of our DNA (the nonprotein-coding DNA, about 98 percent of our genome) and in the histones (chemical modifications and compaction of nucleosomes). They constitute the epigenetic factors responsible for the formation of the epigenetic phenotype, which is variably different from one individual to another. They are individual - specific. Epigenetic factors variantly effect and regulate gene expression. For example, the craniofacial structure in mice is encoded in 300 protein-coding genes. The expression of these genes is regulated by 4000 different sequences of nonprotein-coding DNA called enhancers. Thus, the number of different forms of the craniofacial structure that might develop in mice is 300 exponentiated 4000 epiphenotypes. Other than enhancers, there are the mobile elements of DNA, dsRNA-coding DNA, chemical modification of DNA (e.g., methylation), and so forth. 2. Mind exclusively exists in man as an emergent phenomenon. 3. All scientific data presented in the Book are entirely intended to reflect, to explain, or to prove the Two Concepts rather than to discuss their significances and originalities. The interdisciplinarity of the Book offers a unique opportunity for understanding how astrophysics, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and biology are interrelated. Hani K. Rizk

Reproduction and genetics are the central themes of biology. They relate to big questions of life such as: who are we, where do we come from, and where are we going? In the combined science of reproductive genetics, generations are interconnected and fertility plays a significant role. The cell lineage responsible for this is known as the germline, with gametes as the functional products and heralds of information. The book follows the germline and attempts, through a more liberal and narrative use of language, to bridge the gap between an academic textbook and society. Personal experiences are not shunned but do not dominate. The book is intended for those professionally involved in or entering this field, including those in education and journalism. However, it is also suitable for enthusiasts without a professional background, partly thanks to its beautiful colour illustrations and an up-to-date glossary.

Super Genes written by Deepak Chopra and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-05 with Medical categories.

'You are not simply the sum output of your genome. You are the user and inventor of your genome.' For years it was accepted knowledge that genes were fixed components of our bodies, and that we as individuals were incapable of altering our genetic make-up. Yet groundbreaking research suggests that changes in lifestyle and diet can greatly influence our genetic predispositions to disease and certain physical and psychological behaviours. Moreover, the adoption of ancient Vedic practices such as yoga and meditation can create genetic mutations that allow us to lead longer and healthier lives. Super Genes includes meditation and breathing practical exercises, as well as information on how to manage risk factors for disease. Combining scientific research with insights from ancient traditions, Deepak Chopra and Rudolph Tanzi show how we need not be at the mercy of our genetic inheritance. Instead, they argue, we have the power to rewire our super genes for health and happiness.
