Excerpt from A Short History of Tapestry The history of tapestry dates but from yesterday. Step by step archives have demonstrated the exist ence in France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Germany, England, Denmark, and Russia, of numerous workshops, established in even the most obscure localities; while the store-chambers of princes and the treasuries of churches have revealed a large and varied collection of hangings long hidden from view. Admirable lists of tapestries, and of tapestry workers, moreover, have been drawn up, with all the detail and precision that can be desired. Excerpt from Tapestry The number of threads of the warp to be included in a shoot or a course depends upon the shades: m a plain horizontal part the shoots are made as long as possible, to accelerate the work, but it often happens that a shoot only takes in two or three threads of the warp. The outlines of the drawing to be repro duced, and the} greater or less extent of the half tints, indicate the length of the courses, as well as the number of them to be ranged one above the other. In order to avoid the appearance of mosaic, which would inevitably result from the simple juxtaposition of the colours, the workman passes from one colour to another by shades which partake of both, and which are graduated like hatching. The right treatment of these stipples forms one of the greatest difficulties of the work, and the practised eye of the workman can alone determine where to begin or finish a shade. The Hon. Robert McCormick, American Ambassador to France, and Mr. Spencer Eddy, Secretary of the American Legation at St. Petersburg, for introductions given me to the occasion of my visit to Europe in 1906. Excerpt from The Tapestry Book Tapestries are not to be bought lightly, as one buys a summer coat, to throw aside at the change of taste or circumstance. They demand more of the buyer than mere money; they demand that loving understanding and intimate appreciation that exists between human friends. A profound knowledge Of tapestries benefits in two ways, by giving the keenest pleasure, and by providing the col lector - or the purchaser of a single piece - with a self protection that is proof against fraud, unconscious or de liberate. If you believe there are no coincidences in life and we are on a destined path, then this book will attest to that perception. The story of Luz is where this journey begins. It is a powerful example of strength, of will to push through one’s fears, and of raw determination to survive. The lessons and examples of having the courage not only to survive but to ultimately thrive through some of life’s hardships eventually became the threads of knowledge that were passed on to Marianna. Marianna enters her life’s story only to be abandoned by her mother at the age of three months, her mother who was too young and unwilling to do “what it takes” to care for the children she brought into the world. Whether by “destiny” or by “coincidence,” this child is left with Luz, who had also survived her own tragedy of being left and abandoned after her parents had been killed. Luz would become a grounding force and guiding light in Marianna’s life. Marianna spends a lifetime behind the facade of pretending, showing people she was happy and willing to do most anything to show the world how well-adjusted she was. Marianna’s journey to discover she was accepted and good enough unfolds in a way that she is able to gain insight into life—her life—thus passing along her own threads of knowledge to her children and generations to come for more of the tapestry to be woven.

Search History written by Eugene Lim and has been published by Coffee House Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-10-05 with Fiction categories.

Search History oscillates between a wild cyberdog chase and lunch-date monologues as Eugene Lim deconstructs grieving and storytelling with uncanny juxtapositions and subversive satire. Frank Exit is dead—or is he? While eavesdropping on two women discussing a dog-sitting gig over lunch, a bereft friend comes to a shocking realization: Frank has been reincarnated as a dog! This epiphany launches a series of adventures—interlaced with digressions about AI-generated fiction, virtual reality, Asian American identity in the arts, and lost parents—as an unlikely cast of accomplices and enemies pursues the mysterious canine. In elliptical, propulsive prose, Search History plumbs the depths of personal and collective consciousness, questioning what we consume, how we grieve, and the stories we tell ourselves.

Carole King S Tapestry written by Loren Glass and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-11 with Music categories.

Carole King's Tapestry is both an anthemic embodiment of second-wave feminism and an apotheosis of the Laurel Canyon singer-songwriter sound and scene. And these two elements of the album's historic significance are closely related insofar as the professional autonomy of the singer-songwriter is an expression of the freedom and independence women of King's generation sought as the turbulent sixties came to a close. Aligning King's own development from girl to woman with the larger shift in the music industry from teen-oriented singles by girl groups to albums by adult-oriented singer-songwriters, this volume situates Tapestry both within King's original vision as the third in a trilogy (preceded by Now That Everything's Been Said and Writer) and as a watershed in musical and cultural history, challenging the male dominance of the music and entertainment industries and laying the groundwork for female dominated genres such as women's music and Riot Grrrl punk.
