This writing is a transparent rendering of the history of "the local churches" under the leadership of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee and their ministry(s), which now is in the hands of a group of "blending brothers" who were mentored by Lee and are fully engaged in promoting his ministry in and through the "local churches" associated with them and with Living Stream Ministry. "Living Stream Ministry publishes the works of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee providing the authoritative and definitive collections of treasures from these two servants of the Lord Jesus Christ. The writings of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee focus on the enjoyment of the divine life, which all the believers possess, and on the building up of the church, the goal of God's work with man in this age." (from LSM Home page)The term "local church" is to be applied to Christians in a locality who meet on a ground of understanding that they are one in Christ with every true believer and desire practically to be built up with believers in their own locality according to Christ alone and God's own receiving of them. This is the view seen in the New Testament. It is also the vision we see at the beginning of the Lord's recovery in the Watchman Nee era, but toward the end his view had changed dramatically as the threat of Communist interference rolled across China. The era of Witness Lee parallels that of his mentor: They both began with 1) Christ as life for building up local churches, with "administration local each answering to the Lord"; but ended up inspiring a movement in the churches to 2) "hand over" the reins of leadership to one man and his ministry. This book is to inspire them to come back to the vision at the beginning of the Lord's recovery.

This pioneering study of Australian, New Zealand, and Pacific Christianity opens up new perspectives on Christianization and modernization in this richly complex region. The reception of Christianity into Pacific cultures has produced strongly Christian societies. Based on research in widely scattered archives, this book not only deals with regional interactions but pays careful attention to developments in microstates, and to the variety of indigenous religious movements, which were earlier regarded as deviations from Christian orthodoxy but are now seen as significant adaptations of Christian teaching. In Australia and New Zealand too, European Christian beginnings have been given local emphases, producing Churches with distinctive identities. Lay leadership is emphasized - not only in the Churches but as part of the Christian presence in the realms of politics, business, and culture. The broad liturgical, theological, constitutional, and pastoral developments of the 19th and 20th centuries are mapped, as a context for the striking changes which have taken place since the 1960s. The dynamics of religious change and conflict, the ambiguities of religious authority, and the destructive effects of Christian colonialism on indigenous communities, especially Australian aborigines, are all frankly dealt with. The decline of the institutional impact of the Churches in Australia and New Zealand is explored, as is the growth of partnership between government and Churches in education, social welfare, and overseas aid and development. Interchange in personnel and ideas is strikingly illustrated in the missionary activities of the regional Churches and their cultural impact. The author's involvement in Church and community leadership, ecumenism, and theological education makes this volume in The Oxford History of the Christian Church a valuable addition to the series, describing both continuities with world Christianity and little-known local developments.

Today we need the intensified Spirit because of the degradation of the church. When the book of Revelation was written, the church had become degraded. The Lord became the intensified Spirit because of the degradation of the church. The history of the church tells us that even in the last part of the first century while the apostle John was still alive, the church had degraded from the Spirit to religion. The church had fallen from the living Spirit to dead religion. It was in such a situation that the Lord wrote this book to the seven local churches, using the title of the sevenfold Spirit. Under the degradation of the church, what we need is not religion or doctrines but the intensified Spirit.

Rediscovering the role God designed for the church in mission is a critical issue facing the missions movement today. That role is to glorify God by planting churches among every tongue, tribe, and nation. Planting churches amid unreached peoples is a complex process. It calls forth every ministry gift and the contribution of every believer. Imagine a businessman, a construction worker, a schoolteacher, and an engineer all working together to support the development of a local church amongst an unreached people group in another part of the world. Most Christians will not leave home and go elsewhere to minister. If they are to participate in God's global mission, they must be affirmed, developed and released right where they live, in the context of their local church. This book shows how churches can become centers of mission vision and implementation and so accomplish God's design for the local church.

2016 IVP Readers' Choice Award Many people have given up on the church. But that doesn't mean that they've given up on God or Christianity. In many cases, it was merely that local church congregations were not the best context for missional people to live out their sense of God's call. The good news is that God is raising up vibrant movements of Christians in a vast array of vocations around the world: disciple-making ministries, missions, relief and development, social activism, advocacy and much more. These are all strategic ways to live for the kingdom—in venues beyond the local church. Wherever movements of the gospel have occurred, visionary people and apostolic structures have been essential. Mission leader Sam Metcalf shows how God has always worked through entrepreneurial individuals and organizations that launched out in fresh ways. He gives biblical and missiological foundations for missional movements, showing that what has often been called "parachurch" is an equally valid manifestation of the church. Affirming the strengths of apostolic personalities, Metcalf shows how they can be deployed to cross cultural barriers, renew secular societies and transform the nations with the power of the gospel. God may be inviting you to join what he is doing around the world. Answer the call and discover how God can use you beyond your imagination.

Manuel for Ministers and Local ChurchesBuilding the Local Churches in their structure with others in fellowshipLocal Churches maintaining their AutonomyAutonomy Autonomy is independence and self-government. It is each local church separately submitting, spiritually speaking to the Headship of Jesus and doing the work that God has assigned to the local church, with the ability and means available, preaching and edification (I Timothy 3:15, Ephesians 4:16; Acts 13:1). Submitting to one another in the fear of the Lord, bond of Peace establishing New Testament order, structure, and pattern. The general church is important in serving its role as a body of churches universally. Autonomy is not having a central or controlling board to maintain the doctrinal and moral purity of each local church within that union (this is denominationalism). Such a practice is a violation of the autonomy taught in the scriptures and the New Testament church. A local church must be challenged if they believe and practice a false teaching or doctrine contrary to scriptures and New Testament church. Christ as head of the church challenges such actions done in His name. The blessing of brothers and churches in fellowship gives accountability. We are able to answer to one another, thus giving protection and support in ministry worldwide. We must have the right to reveal and challenge the word in us to help us. This practice is seen throughout the New Testament. This is not a violating of our autonomy! It is obvious that God designed autonomy in both the local and universal church to be a safeguard. When one local church went astray, it did not automatically affect other local churches, even when they were in the same geographic area. For instance, Pergamos held the false doctrine of the Nicolatians, but this did not affect the other six churches within the same region as Pergamos (Revelation 2:3). We must appreciate the fact that the false beliefs of Pergamos were revealed and challenged by John and Jesus to the knowledge of the local church at Ephesus, Smyrna, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. A violation of autonomy would have been for the local church at Ephesus to demand, as a church, that Pergamos repent and conform. Preachers, in the epistles were repeatedly seen exposing and challenging error in local churches where they were not a member. Autonomy is meant to be protection against group alliance contamination, but not exemption from liable accountability, and responsibility of actions. The challenge against error or exposure of sin and false doctrine must always be maintained in preaching the pure gospel! We must answer to the gospel we preach in our churches and the world. The truth is that the autonomy of local churches in the early church of the First Century is clear. The history of these primitive churches total commitment to the risen Lord gave them the Power to turn the world upside down, thus right side up. They established fully Christs presence in the earth a local and universal order."
