Volume II of the History of the International Energy Agency takes up the energy policies and actions of the Agency during its first twenty years, from 1974 to 1994 inclusive. While the weak institutional situation of the industrial countries in the 1973-1974 crisis period made it all but impossible for them to adopt decisive and effective responses, when the time for action came, the reasons for their vulnerability to the oil producer countries were perhaps less their underdeveloped institutions than their essentially optimistic and passive oil management policies during the years preceding the crisis. Other policy choices which might have prevented or softened the crisis were available to them, as Volume II shows.

Global Climate And Energy Governance written by Harald L. Heubaum and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-30 with Political Science categories.

Tracing the changing activities of international bureaucracies active in global climate and energy governance, this book provides an in-depth analysis of processes of institutional innovation and governance integration between the two fields. It shows that rather than the consequence of a designed strategy, governance integration – the convergence of approaches and practices among different actors within one or between two or more governance architectures – has come as the result of organizational changes arising from the international bureaucracies’ various efforts to pursue and broaden their mandate in a complex and dynamic global policy environment. Each of the three cases analyzed (the UNFCCC Secretariat, the IEA Secretariat and the World Bank) began their life focused on particular activities that today, following periods of sustained organizational change, make up only part of their operations. Beyond creating greater synergies for cooperation across the governance architectures, improving policies, and mobilizing greater investment to tackle the climate emergency, the book shows governance integration to have contributed to preserving and expanding the role and relevance of all three international bureaucracies. This book will be of interest to students and scholars of global climate and energy governance, climate policy, and international organizations and their bureaucratic arms. Practitioners will find this book useful in thinking about why innovation in governance emerges and how it may be directed.

Greenhouse Gas Balances Of Bioenergy Systems written by Patricia Thornley and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-12-07 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Greenhouse Gases Balance of Bioenergy Systems covers every stage of a bioenergy system, from establishment to energy delivery, presenting a comprehensive, multidisciplinary overview of all the relevant issues and environmental risks. It also provides an understanding of how these can be practically managed to deliver sustainable greenhouse gas reductions. Its expert chapter authors present readers to the methods used to determine the greenhouse gas balance of bioenergy systems, the data required and the significance of the results obtained. It also provides in-depth discussion of key issues and uncertainties, such as soil, agriculture, forestry, fuel conversion and emissions formation. Finally, international case studies examine typical GHG reduction levels for different systems and highlight best practices for bioenergy GHG mitigation. For bringing together into one volume information from several different fields that was up until now scattered throughout many different sources, this book is ideal for researchers, graduate students and professionals coming into the bioenergy field, no matter their previous background. It will be particularly useful for bioenergy researchers seeking to calculate greenhouse gas balances for systems they are studying. I will also be an important resource for policy makers and energy analysts. Uses a multidisciplinary approach to synthesize the diverse information that is required to competently execute GHG balances for bioenergy systems Presents an in-depth understanding of the science underpinning key issues and uncertainty in GHG assessments of bioenergy systems Includes case studies that examine ways to maximize the GHG reductions delivered by different bioenergy systems
