The Holy Temple in Jerusalem presents a magnificent review of the beauty and splendor of the Holy Temple when it stood in Jerusalem. The book provides a generous glimpse of the Temple's glory and honor, as well as an understanding of the Divine service that was performed there during the Festivals and all year round. Through these pages the reader is afforded the opportunity to walk through the Temple's hallowed precincts, while observing the service of the priests. Rabbi Yisrael Ariel was born in 1939. He was raised in Jerusalem and studied in the Yeshivat Hesder 'Kerem B'Yavneh' as well as the 'Mercaz HaRav' Yeshiva. He was among the paratroopers who liberated the Temple Mount in the 1967 Six Day War. He served as Rabbi of the Jezreel Valley Regional Council and as Rabbi of the Sdei Yaakov community. With the advent of the Yom Kippur war, he served as Rabbi of the IDF Northern Command and was later one of the prominent Rabbis of the city of Yamit. He is author of the multi-volume Hebrew publication Otzar Eretz Yisrael (A Treasury of the Land of Israel), a study on the borders of the Land of Israel according to Biblical sources. Since founding the Temple Institute more than 3 decades ago, Rabbi Yisrael Ariel has dedicated his life towards activities and programs geared towards preparation for the Holy Temple. Every aspect of his work is involved in deepening the knowledge and awareness of the centrality and importance of the Temple throughout every level of society. In this framework Rabbi Ariel serves as the head of Yeshivat Beit haBechira which focuses on every aspect of Temple-related studies. On the background of these studies, Rabbi Ariel initiated this work, which offers the reader hundreds of detailed artistic renditions created by some of Israel's finest artists.

Understanding the Holy Temple of the Old Testament offers a comprehensive overview of Israel's sanctuary throughout its history up until the first century. Beginning with the proto-sanctuary in Genesis, it shows how Abraham's offering up of Isaac on Mount Moriah established this site as a holy place of great signi cance for mankind. We then follow the dramatic story of the portable sanctuary of the Tabernacle in its long journey to Jerusalem, examining its features and associated rituals. A depiction of Solomon's Temple, famous for its splendor, is at the heart of the book. In addition, a tremendous amount of material, based on the evidence of ancient texts and recently discovered archaeological remains, is brought together to offer clues as to the precise location of this sacred building. Understanding the Holy Temple of the Old Testament continues the story of the Temple and the platform that surrounded it through the post-exilic, Hellenistic, and Hasmonean periods. Leen Ritmeyer's authoritative reconstructive drawings imbue the stones of the Temple with meaning and o er insights to the scholar and interested layperson alike. A companion volume, Understanding the Holy Temple Jesus Knew, is forthcoming.

As war and terrorism continue to rage over the Holy Land, the Temple of Jerusalem, arguably the most famous sacred structure in world history, looms in the background as a symbol of past glory, a place of religious worship, and a site to be contended over and coveted. This book offers a general history of the meaning, importance, and significance of the Temple of Jerusalem, in both the religious and the political arena. It begins with the construction of the Temple, its destruction in 587 B.C.E., its reconstruction in 516 B.C.E., the vast enlargement during the time of the Idumean King Herod, around 20 B.C.E., its final destruction in 70 C.E., and its dynamic and abundant afterlife as the leading influence in the construction of Jewish synagogues, Christian cathedrals, and Islamic mosques. But the Temple has also been at the center of much political and religious controversy, and Lundquist explores the issues and conflicts that have erupted over this sacred place, considers the meaning and importance of the Temple to Christianity, Judaism and Islam, from ancient times to the present, and concludes with a careful consideration of the continuing religious and political tensions. On September 28, 2000, Ariel Sharon visited the Temple Mount (also called Al-Haram As-Sharif) in Jerusalem, igniting what has come to be known as the second intifada. But why would such a visit to a religious site set off such a string of violent responses that continue to this day? The answer lies in the history of the Temple of Jerusalem, which once, indeed twice, stood in the spot known today as the Temple Mount (to Jews) and the Dome of the Rock (to Muslims). A holy place to three of the world's main religions—Christianity, Judaism, and Islam—the Temple of Jerusalem is, arguably, the most famous sacred structure in world history and figures prominently in Apocalyptic writings. Yet, it is almost entirely absent, in all its phases, from the archaeological record, as the sacred nature of the site prohibits any excavation.
