A moored two dimensional array with instrumentation distributed both horizontally and vertically was deployed for 27 days in August 1998 at an 85 meter deep site in Massachusetts Bay near Stellwagon basin. The horizontal mooring consisted of a 160 meter long horizontal element positioned at a depth of 20 meters between two subsurface moorings. Suspended below the horizontal member were five 25 meter long vertical strings. The vertical strings had a horizontal separation of 30 meters and each had instruments at depths of 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 meters. Instrumentation deployed on the two dimensional array included acoustic current meters, temperature sensors, conductivity measuring instruments, pressure sensors and motion monitoring packages. This report includes a detailed description of the two dimensional array, the anchoring system and the instrumentation that were deployed. Also included is a description of the deployment and recovery techniques that were employed, as well as an assessment of the performance of the array.

This FORTRAN computer program performs the design and analysis of single-leg chain/cable mooring lines associated with drag/fixed anchors embedded in a cohesive or cohesionless seafloor. Any combination of chain and cable segments may be used to specify the mooring line. The program calculates a detailed solution of the mooring line from the anchor to the surface buoy. The program requires horizontal tension at the buoy as part of the input. In addition, either the total length of the mooring line or the horizontal distance between the anchor and the buoy or the angle of the mooring line at the seafloor surface can be specified.

Two previous NATO Advanced Study Institutes (ASI) on berthing and mooring of ships have been held; the first in Lisboa, Portugal in 1965, and the second at Wallingford, England in 1973. These ASls have contributed significantly to the under standing and development of fenders and mooring, as have works by Oil Companies International Marine Forum (1978) and PIANC (1984). Developments in ship sizes and building of new specialized terminals at very exposed locations have necessitated further advances in the combined mooring and fendering technology. Exploration and exploitation of the continental shelves have also brought about new and challenging problems, developments and solutions. Offshore activities and developments have in fluenced and improved knowledge about both ships and other floating structures which are berthed and/or moored under various environmental conditions. The scope of this ASI was to present recent advances in berth ing and mooring of ships and mooring of floating offshore structures, focusing on models and tools available with a view towards safety and reduction of frequencies and consequences of accidents.

Components Of Force Generated By Harmonic Oscillations Of Small Scale Mooring Lines In Water written by John H. Pattison and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1977 with Cables categories.

Linear scaling of deep-water moorings is impractical and reliance must be made by designers on analytic models. To provide a broad data base applicable to model validation, five small-scale mooring line materials were selected for evaluation. The horizontal and vertical components of dynamic tension generated by vertical, sinusoidal motion of the upper end of the mooring line were measured. The experiments were made under conditions of current and no current. Data were reduced to force response ratios as a function of frequency of input, and observations of mooring line motions were made. These response ratios were found to depend on preload, current, bending stiffness and scope.

Guide To Single Point Moorings written by Johan Wichers and has been published by WMooring this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-11 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book covers many different aspects of single point mooring systems. A single point mooring system is used to keep a vessel stationed at a fixed location. These vessels can for instance be a Floating Production Storage and Offloading System or Floating Storage and offloading system. Hundreds of these systems are operational today. The first part of this book shows a little history of the origins of oil and gas and the current supply and demand for oil. This book also shows some of the history of the development of the single point mooring systems. It also addresses the many different aspects of designing these types of systems. This book will also go into the detail of the hydrodynamics and loadings that act on these vessels by wind and waves and the behavior of the different types of mooring systems.
