Emmanuel Levinas’s philosophical work on ‘the Other’ offers a challenge to the discipline of anthropology that claims knowledge of the human. For Levinas, the ‘secrecy’ of subjectivity – a fundamental facet of the human condition – demands an ethics of ignorance and not-knowing; the mystery of otherness is only to be approached through ‘inspiration’. Can anthropology meet a Levinasian challenge if it would define itself as a science as well as a humanistic documentation of social life? This book endeavours to take Levinasian and anthropological precepts equally seriously and offers a radical conclusion.

In this powerful new work, Simone Toji reconsiders ethnography as a form of appreciation of the contradictions inherent in the making of life itself. Recovering Bronislaw Malinowski’s idea of the “imponderabilia of actual life” as an inspiring ethnographic attitude, she shows how lives are composed through moments of indecision, opacity, and incongruity that make them irreducibly open ended. The singular lives of four migrants, from Paraguay, South Korea, and Bolivia, are rendered as journeys across the city of São Paulo, interspersed with resonant explorations of the power of life’s invention and reinvention as part of the human condition. This important new book is a major contribution to migration studies, social and cultural anthropology, and the social sciences as a whole, and will appeal to readers from the undergraduate level through the doctoral.

Dear readers and poetry lovers, It is with great emotion and enthusiasm that I share with you my latest work, a deep dive into the universe of words and feelings. This book of poetry is an intimate journey through the nuances of life, where each verse is an echo of the heart, each stanza is a sigh of the soul. Symphony of 100 Poems Synopsis: In these pages, I sought to capture the ephemerality of love, the melancholy of longing, the bravery of hope and the mysteries that weave the web of existence. Each poem is a painting of emotions, an invitation to reflect on the wonders and challenges that permeate our journey. What to Expect: Feel free to explore the pages of this book like diving into an ocean of words. Each poem is a bridge between the tangible and the ephemeral, an attempt to express the indescribable beauty of human emotions. Dear readers, It is with immense gratitude and joy that I dedicate these words to you, who kindly embarked on this poetic journey with me. Creating this book was an experience of profound meaning, and it could not have been possible without the support and inspiration of so many incredible people. First of all, I would like to thank my family for their patience, unconditional love and constant encouragement. To the friendships that brightened my days with laughter, understanding and support, my sincere thanks. To those who shared their stories, feelings and experiences, you are the true essence of these poems. To the dedicated team who made this book a reality, from editors to designers, I thank you for transforming loose words into a tangible work. To the mentors who guided my literary path, my deepest gratitude. And, finally, to you, dear readers, for allowing these poems to touch your hearts. May this book be more than words on paper, but a meaningful echo in your lives. With all my love and gratitude, Fernando Kfer

Cosmopolitan Moment Cosmopolitan Method written by Nigel Rapport and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-11-17 with Social Science categories.

In conversation, and in the company of a new generation of scholars working in the field, Nigel Rapport and Huon Wardle re-explore the terrain and meaning of cosmopolitan studies now. This book offers a new survey and theorisation of cosmopolitan research, a burgeoning topic responding to increasingly complex patterns of human interaction in world society. It considers the question of cosmopolitan methodology: What are the methods needed for, or elicited by, studying cosmopolitan situations? And how are we to remain faithful to the heteronomous human interiority and intentionality from which cosmopolitan moments are constructed? The volume focuses on the open-ended moment of ethnographic fieldwork that generates the concepts and methods needed to understand contemporary cosmopolitanisation. The chapters cover a wide range of ethnographic situations and open up debate on what are the opportunities and responsibilities of a cosmopolitan anthropology in its exploration of human difference and commonality.

Europe Or The Infinite Task written by Rodolphe Gasché and has been published by Stanford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-12-22 with Philosophy categories.

What exactly does "Europe" mean for philosophy today? Putting aside both Eurocentrism and anti-Eurocentrism, Gasché returns to the old name "Europe" to examine it as a concept or idea in the work of four philosophers from the phenomenological tradition: Husserl, Heidegger, Patočka, and Derrida. Beginning with Husserl, the idea of Europe became central to such issues as rationality, universality, openness to the other, and responsibility. Europe, or The Infinite Task tracks the changes these issues have undergone in phenomenology in order to investigate "Europe's" continuing potential for critical and enlightened resistance in a world that is progressively becoming dominated by the mono-perspectivism of global market economics. Rather than giving up on the idea of Europe as an anachronism, Gasché aims to show that it still has philosophical legs.

School buildings in Maryland, Washington, D.C., New York, Boston, Chicago, South Carolina, and throughout America that have chipping, peeling, and flaking lead-based paint on the interior and exterior are exposing our children and others to lead poisoning. Having renovations performed on these already lead hazardous schools without implementing the proper protective protocols to prevent millions of more microscopic lead dust particles from spreading only compounds the exposure to lead poisoning. Moreover, if these same lead hazardous school buildings, also, have their water supply flowing through leaded pipes, pipes that are connected with lead solder, or have leaded fixtures attached to the fountains, then, our leaders of tomorrow and others are ingesting even more lead poisoning through drinking lead-tainted water. This non-fiction book documents the truth that a Mathematics teacher, who has maintained her certification and accreditation in lead hazard evaluation and control since 1997 as a Repainting and Maintenance Supervisor, an Inspector Technician, a Lead Abatement Service Contractor, and thus, a Recognized Lead Expert by the Maryland Department of the Environment, identified four schools in Baltimore City that had either deteriorating, chipping, and flaking lead-based paint, major renovations that disturbed lead hazardous components and didnt have the proper protective protocols in place, or drinking water that was lead-contaminated. She attempted on numerous occasions to have the health hazards addressed and resolved. However, the powers that be only wanted to silence her and continue concealing the truth that for over a decade the custodians of these public schools, the owners, and others knowingly, willingly, and negligently exposed lives to lead poisoning. Moreover, the detailed, documented true findings from five Finders of Fact that substantiate that the powers that be retaliated against the messenger because she blew the whistle regarding the lead hazardous in these Baltimore City schools.
