Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2016 in the subject Education - Educational Tests & Measurements, grade: 2.1, language: English, abstract: This study investigated the effects of distributed leadership practices on the job satisfaction and motivation of teachers for increased academic performance from the perspective of a basic secondary school situated in an urban area of Kazakhstan. It employed the critical paradigm to examine the teachers' motivational levels and job satisfaction as members of the decision-making processes in the case study school. Therefore, this study used five semi-structured interviews on five randomly selected participants who gave the qualitative data analyzed. The coding of the gathered data identified five key themes analyzed in section 4. The findings indicate that the participants unequivocally challenged the hierarchical leadership style witnessed in the country's public schools since they feel that they are oppressive in nature and demean the teachers' opinions leading to teachers' frustration in the teaching profession and poor schools academic performance. Consequently, this study proposes the distributed leadership form to enable teachers to develop a sense of ownership, responsibility, collaboration, and fulfilled life that arises from being part of the decision-making process in their school.

The purpose of this qualitative case study research was to investigate the existing degree of relationship between leadership styles and student achievement for principals in small, rural, southeast districts in Arizona. Student achievement was measured by fifth grade AIMS Mathematic scores over a two year period. Leadership style of the principals was measured by the MLQ-5X survey completed by eight participants (principals) and 102 raters (teachers). Interviews were conducted with a subset of the principals to gather more information in relation to their leadership style. Each leadership attribute was examined in relation to the student achievement on AIMS mathematics test for quantitative data analysis. The qualitative data analysis was performed with a word and phrase frequency counter to identify specific themes across the leadership style. Based on the findings of this study it is recommended that principals use the MLQ survey each school year to modify or enhance their leadership style by focusing professional development on strengthening leadership styles to establish commonality within district leadership to enhance student achievement. To expand on the results of this study, future research is recommended to include student SES, compare school districts to identify trends in school test scores to determine if district leadership impacts building leadership that has an indirect impact on student achievement, and include stakeholders in the MLQ survey to gain feedback.

Technology integration in public secondary schools is a challenge to many Namibian schools. Principals’ leadership styles play a key role in changing the way teachers and learners use the internet, integrate technology in education as well as communicate through the internet. It is against this background that the purpose of this study was to analyse the impact of the secondary school principals’ leadership styles on technology integration in the Oshana region of Namibia. The research strives to identify the leadership styles that were used by public secondary school principals in the Oshana region. The researcher applied the qualitative research method and the data was collected using an interview guide. This study used 14 public secondary school principals from the population of 24 public secondary schools. The results indicate that different leadership styles were used by the principals depending on the situation’s demands, and it has also been found that the applied leadership styles had a significant role to play in the integration of technology in schools. It is important that the MoEAC, schools, principals and teachers take the findings of this study into consideration and implement the strategies that would contribute to the effectiveness of technology integration in schools.
