As if riding on a tandem pushbike 4000km across Australia wasn't enough of a challenge for a blind person, Brisbane-based Lorin Nicholson has now tackled the world of publishing and has written his first children's book. What makes The Amazing Bike Ride such a great read is it's the real life account of the seemingly impossible ride Lorin undertook as a 16-year-old school student from Tamworth to Port Macquarie. In just three days, he rode his trusty old mountain bike solo 275km across some of the steepest mountains in Australia - the Great Dividing Range - and at the time, he had less than 10 per cent sight. This courageous story has been told thousands of times by Lorin as part of the motivational presentations he makes to school students and to corporate gatherings across Australia - and around the world. Authoring The Amazing Bike Ride was a natural progression, considering at the time, Lorin was planning another extraordinary bike adventure across Australia - and that has just been achieved. You will be captivated and inspired by this incredible true story. Who knows? Reading it could even change your life. Renowned Australian author, journalist and film maker Jeff McMullen says this about Lorin: ?Lorin's story shows what a person can do if you really put your mind to it and believe in yourself. It also shows that when your words and your actions are lined up you can do just about anything worthwhile .... All of his gifts he has shared with kids in classrooms around this country. I have watched people break into smiles as this gentle storyteller reminds us that it is the simple joys that make us truly happy. Only a kid with a very big heart could handle a ride like this one.Why don't you enjoy the ride too?

Bud Gregory was something there isn't any word for. He bet on a dirt-track automobile race in the State of Colorado, and won twelve dollars. Simultaneously, a certain European Power made a very polite apology to the Icelandic Government for the falling of a rocket-projectile near Reykjavik. In so doing, it advertised publicly that it had long-range guided missiles capable of flights of over two thousand miles. Next day, Bud Gregory bet on a second dirt-track race and won six dollars more. At very nearly the same instant, Izvestia published a bellicose article which practically called for war on the United States—UNO or no UNO—and a middle European nation offered a calculated, uncalled-for insult to its United States ambassador. The day after, Bud Gregory sat in the bar of a motor-tourist camp and drank beer contentedly all day long. Two days later still, on a mountain highway in the Rockies, the driver of a sixteen-wheel Diesel truck came booming to a sharp curve which had a cliff on one side and a four-hundred-foot drop on the other. The truck thundered around that curve—and ran slap into a rattletrap car with a flapping fabric top and an incredible load of children and household goods. Ran slap into it, that is, to the extent that a collision was inevitable. The jalopy was on the wrong side of the road. The truck could not turn out, nor the jalopy turn in, in time. So the truck-driver froze, and saw the rattletrap vehicle swerve out still farther on the wrong side of the road—ride out until only its inner wheels were on the highway and its outer wheels spun merrily over vacancy

An inside view into cycling's most prestigious event and the people who have helped Lance Armstrong win an unprecedented six times Lance Armstrong's place in the cycling history books is assured. Winner of the Tour de France a record-breaking six times, he is regarded as one of the greatest individual talents the sport has ever seen. Perhaps his most compelling victory was in 2003 when he won the coveted Centenary race. However, without the team of brilliant athletes assembled to support him - the domestiques - victory in the Tour would have been impossible. Not only do these superbly trained athletes ride alongside the team leader, supplying water and equipment, but they also create a moving stream of energy that is vital for competitive success. In 2003, Lance Armstrong's domestique, Victor Hugo Peña, actually took over the yellow jersey and stepped into history. A Significant Other is the story of that race but also of these unsung heros of the sport.

Daniel Oakman takes us on a rich ride through 130 years of Australian cycling; from the overlanding heroes of Arthur Richardson and Francis Birtles, to the lesser known but no less amazing feats of Jerome Murif, Ted Ryko and Joe Pearson, through to modern-day bikepacking trailblazers such as Kate Leeming, Tegan Streeter and Tom Richards. Celebrity riders are here too; from the historic icons of Hubert ‘Oppy’ Opperman, Wendy Duncan and Shirley Law, to the more recent triumphs of actor Sam Johnson and his audacious quest to ride a unicycle 15,000 kilometres around the country. You will be astounded by their journeys, retold here with sparkling clarity. Be inspired for your next pedal powered adventure.

Attuned Leadership written by Reuel Khoza and has been published by Penguin Random House South Africa this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-01 with Business & Economics categories.

Leaders are not just born to the role. They are born, then made - and sometimes unmade by their own actions. A leader who is not attuned to his or her followers soon becomes a leader in limbo and invariably then fails. Connectedness, compassion, empathy, integrity, humility, reasonableness and a determination to be effective are the keys to attuned leadership. An attuned leader can step boldly into an uncertain future with the certainty that followers will lend their support. In this richly reflective discussion of leadership and transformation the author provides a guide to what constitutes ethical leadership in local and global contexts, for business, politics and government. In a world where tyrants abound in corporations and in states, Attuned Leadership provides a compass for the direction of ethical leadership. Central to this perspective is that the philosophical traditions of Africa offer an important contribution to the theory and practice of leadership in the world today. African humanism or Ubuntu, evokes both reason and empathy as the basis for ethical leadership. Ubuntu - articulated in the Zulu proverb Umuntu Ngumuntu Ngabantu - means that a person is a person because of other people. The author contends that the reciprocal relationship between the individual and the social collective stimulates caring and progressive thought and action. Nowhere is this more apt than in the relationship between leader and followers.
