The 'Monsoon' has exercised a profound influence on Indian life and its economy. hence, study of its mechanics and behaviour have attracted attention of foreign and Indian scientists from ealry times. The present book by Dr. V.S. Kagtiyar is a comprehensive indepth study of the various facets of Indian Monsoon. The book starts with an account of the Indian Monsoon climatology, its different schools of thought, its mechanics and behaviour. It then proceeds through descriptions of the fundamental concepts of the subject-climatology, its historical resume and schemes of climatic classifications to a stuy of macro and micro climates of India-on the recent techniques of the subject.

Variability of the Indian summer monsoon has increased significantly since the 1950s. For several regions across India, this means an increase in long dry periods with low or no rainfall, intermittent with short, intense spells of rainfall. These changes are particularly significant for the western, central and eastern states of India where more than 55% of the cultivated area is largely rainfed and where the adaptive capacity is the lowest. The large-scale secular changes in monsoon rainfall are attributed to the increase in global emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants. At the same time, local changes through urbanization, land use changes and deforestation have brought in a non-uniform response in these rainfall trends. Changes in the onset, duration and intensity of the rainfall call for a reassessment of the crop calendar and climate resilient measures for the food-water-energy sectors of the country. Global warming has also altered the relationship between sea surface temperatures and other predictors of monsoon rainfall, introducing increasing challenges and uncertainties in the monsoon forecasts. Climate projections indicate a further increase in the monsoon variability and a shortening of the rainy season in the future, though there is considerable disagreement between model simulations.

Indian Summer Monsoon Variability: El Niño-Teleconnections and Beyond presents the improved understanding of Indian Monsoon teleconnections (ENSO and Non-ENSO), new advances, and preferred future steps. Special emphasis is given to non-ENSO teleconnections which have been poorly understood for decades. With growing monsoon rainfall extremes across the Indian Subcontinent, a new understanding of monsoon environmental factors that are driven remotely through teleconnections is a trending topic. Finally, the book reviews current understanding ofthe observational and modeling aspects of Indian monsoon teleconnections. This is a must-read for researchers and graduate students in atmospheric science and meteorology. Presents teleconnections associated with the Indian summer monsoon from a global perspective Discusses new pathways that connect the remote drivers to Indian summer monsoon variability Covers a wide range of mechanisms, processes, and science questions in relation to monsoon variability from interannual, decadal to climate change time scales

Monsoons Over China written by Ding Yihui and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-09 with Science categories.

The monsoon over China is one of the major components of the general circulation on a global basis. Its activity be ars a significant regional implication in East Asia and Southeast Asia. Recently, the remarkable relationship and teleconnection between this part of the monsoon and other regions over the world have been revealed. However, little of the overall picture of monsoons over China is known by meteorologists in English-speaking countries. This monograph provides the first opportunity to extensively introduce this subject and give a comprehensive and systematic description of the major aspects of monsoons over China, with a special emphasis on the fluctuations of the monsoon on various scales and the effects of the Tibetan Plateau on the monsoon. Much highly original material and achievements Chinese and Western meteorologists have made from the past 20 years have been incorporated with a unifying approach. In each chapter, the observational and theoretical (including modelling) treatment will be closely combined in order to fully illustrate the relevent problems. The unique thermal and dynamical effects of the Tibetan Plateau on the monsoon circulation features wh ich are one of the central problems of the Asian monsoon are highlights of this monograph. Researchers in meteorology and weather forecasters should find this book a very useful introduction to monsoons over China, not only for its systematic treatment of the subject, but also because of its considerable historical information. This mono graph is equally suitable for graduates or more advanced students in meteorology, hydrology, and oceanography.

This Publication Presents A Collection Of 16 Selected Research/ Review Papers On Various Aspects Of Monsoons Those Were Discussed During The International Roundtable On Understanding And Prediction Of Summer And Winter Monsoons Held At Jakarta/ Bandung, Indonesia During 21-24 November, 2005. Monsoons Modulate The Rhythm Of Life In Several Countries. The Amount Of Rain Received During Monsoons Critically Controls The Way Of Life, Culture And Economy. The Word Monsoon Indicates A Rainy Season But The Domain Of Monsoon Encompasses Seasonal Changes In Prevailing Surface Wind Direction Especially Between Summer And Winter. The Ability To Anticipate How Monsoon And The Resultant Climate, Will Behave From One Year To The Next Will Lead To Better Management Of Agriculture, Water Supplies, Fisheries And Other Resources. Prediction Of Monsoon However Is One Of The Major Challenges Of Climate Research As It Is An Extremely Complex Phenomenon Involving Variabilities Over A Wide Range Of Spatial And Temporal Scales. The Topics Covered In This Volume Include Observed Aspects Of Monsoons In Several Countries, Analyses Of Model Simulations And Forecasts, Survey Of Instrumentation And Analysis Techniques And Projections Of Monsoon In The Future Climate. Hence, The Publication Is Undoubtedly, A Useful Reference Material For The Meteorologists And Experts Working In The Area Of Monsoon Prediction And Will Help The Developing Countries In Working Out Appropriate Plans And Programmes On Understanding And Prediction Of Monsoons.
