Through a curious turn of events, past and present intersect, as one man’s curse becomes another man’s fortune—not a treasure of silver and gold, but something extraordinary. Nicolas Mason never expected to find adventure in his quiet town, but fate had a way of taking him aside and revealing another path. When a stranger with a dark past makes an unexpected arrival, our hero is taken on a journey to save everything he holds most dear. A race against the clock, good verses evil; who will be the one to claim victory? The year is 1841. Step inside the small town of Brigwood and come along on a journey that will test the courage, valour, and strength of those willing to sacrifice it all. Sometimes it’s best to free yourself of what you believe to be true, and let your imagination wander past its limits. Imagine the possibilities; what could exist, what will exist as time moves toward the future? Every soul leaves behind a shadow when the light sheds its own; a legacy. This is one man's tale that will let you choose what you want to believe.

G. I. Taylor was one of the most distinguished physical scientists of the last century, using his deep insight and originality and mathematical skill to increase greatly our understanding of phenomena such as the turbulent flow of fluids. His interest in the science of fluid flow was not confined to theory; he was one of the early pioneers of aeronautics, and designed a new type of anchor, now widely used in small boats throughout the world, that came about through his passion for sailing. Taylor spent most of his working life in the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge, where he investigated the mechanics of fluid and solid materials; his discoveries and ideas have had application throughout mechanical, civil and chemical engineering, meteorology, oceanography and material science. He was also a noted research leader, and his group in Cambridge became one of the most productive centres for the study of fluid mechanics. How was Taylor able to be innovative in so many different ways? This interesting and unusual mix of science and biography, first published in 1996, helps us to answer that question.

This volume examines the legacy of the East–West divide since the implosion of the communist regimes in Europe. The ideals of 1989 have largely been frustrated by the crises and turmoil of the past decade. The liberal consensus was first challenged as early as the mid-2000s. In Eastern Europe, grievances were directed against the prevailing narratives of transition and ever sharper ethnic-racial antipathies surfaced in opposition to a supposedly postnational and multicultural West. In Western Europe, voices regretting the European Union's supposedly careless and premature expansion eastward began to appear on both sides of the left–right and liberal–conservative divides. The possibility of convergence between Europe's two halves has been reconceived as a threat to the European project. In a series of original essays and conversations, thirty-three contributors from the fields of European and global history, politics and culture address questions fundamental to our understanding of Europe today: How have perceptions and misperceptions between the two halves of the continent changed over the last three decades? Can one speak of a new East–West split? If so, what characterizes it and why has it reemerged? The contributions demonstrate a great variety of approaches, perspectives, emphases, and arguments in addressing the daunting dilemma of Europe's assumed East–West divide.

As he learns to trust his therapist, he shares harrowing stories, painting a picture of the battles he fought during the war, both mentally and physically. His twelve-year journey took him from a battlefield in Princeton, B.C., to the dark prisons of Mongolia, to the dense city of Mumbai and all the way to the warzone in Norway. What have the hippies ever done for us? Matthew Ingram explores the relationship between the summer of love and wellness, medicine, and health. The counterculture of the Sixties and the Seventies is remembered chiefly for music, fashion, art, feminism, computing, black power, cultural revolt and the New Left. But an until-now unexplored, yet no less important aspect -- both in its core identity and in terms of its ongoing significance and impact -- is its relationship with health. In this popular and illuminating cultural history of the relationship between health and the counterculture, Matthew Ingram connects the dots between the beats, yoga, meditation, psychedelics, psychoanalysis, Eastern philosophy, sex, and veganism, showing how the hippies still have a lot to teach us about our wellbeing.
