Even though a quarter of a century has passed since Clayton Christensen's The Innovator's Dilemma was first published, business leaders still find themselves confronted with the same problem. A profound disconnect too often exists between innovation development and business outcomes. Companies say they want the stimulus of innovation and even handsomely fund their in-house R&D. Yet when it comes time for a call to action, such as launching a new product or service, they often back away from the risk. Sadly, the American corporation's decision makers all too often decide to play it safe, and the innovation doesn't go into play at all. In my thirty-five-year technology career, from academia, to my own start-ups, and to managing innovation in enterprise environments, I have encountered many large companies who have R&D collaborations with academia and with start-ups. Open innovation with academia and start-ups, the focal point of this book, is not new. Unfortunately, many of these collaborations do not result in true innovation. My book explores the ingredients of the secret sauce required to generate successful open innovation. The Innovation Factory provides essential, practical guidance for all parties wishing to work toward successful collaborations that achieve innovation in its many aspects. Perhaps you have already launched some partnerships; if so, this book will help both of you make them more successful. Whether you have or have not, this is the only book you need to launch and partner in open innovation initiatives.

The Innovation Factory takes a fresh look at the fine art of breakthrough innovation. What makes it unique is that it brings together an experienced scholar and a serial entrepreneur who share the same passion for understanding the processes and theories needed to innovate over and over again. The book marries theory with practical examples focusing on the Concept-Knowledge (C-K) Theory developed by the prestigious school Mines ParisTech. For the first time, you will discover the unknown story of the Swatch watch told by Elmar Mock, the creative engineering force behind the Swatch. In this book, he passionately tells how he helped to create this breakthrough innovation that saved the Swiss watch industry in the 1980s. Gilles Garel, a professor of management, relates this tale of epic innovation to C-K theory and both convincingly argue that organizations can channel creativity to develop breakthrough innovations that disrupt markets. Innovation is not just a case of acquiring aptitude. It is also a question of attitude: Innovators strive to remain creative and active. The book provides an overview of the characteristics and essential strengths of the successful Innovation Factory, Creaholic, based in Switzerland. The example of Creaholic helps readers grasp what breakthrough innovation is truly all about. The book’s use of vibrant metaphors helps readers easily digest the ideas and concepts presented. The book concludes with thoughts about future directions for the watch industry.

Olivetti written by Luca Iandoli and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with Office practice categories.

This case study presents the remarkable story of an Italian company, Olivetti, that in about 20 years after the end of World War 2 was able to introduce an extraordinary series of product and management innovations that contributed significantly to changes in the business of office automation. The vision and management approach of the Olivetti family, and in particular of Adriano Olivetti, created an organizational environment that nurtured individual talent and creativity in unprecedented and original ways. The Olivetti company became a leader in office automation, industrial design, and communication, and was the first company to successfully build and market a personal computer. These successes were the result of a humanistic management model that emphasized individual and community development, in which factories were not only core units for efficient and technologically advanced production but also places for creativity and experimentation of new management and governance models. How is it possible to combine attention towards individuals and the social impact of a business with market success and the pursuit of profit? How can a company ensure that creativity and experimentation are channeled towards efficient execution and launch of successful products? How can the exploration of emerging and potentially disruptive technologies and a focus on more traditional and solid core business be combined? These are some of the management dilemmas students are asked to analyze and try to solve in this case.

The definitive history of America’s greatest incubator of innovation and the birthplace of some of the 20th century’s most influential technologies “Filled with colorful characters and inspiring lessons . . . The Idea Factory explores one of the most critical issues of our time: What causes innovation?” —Walter Isaacson, The New York Times Book Review “Compelling . . . Gertner's book offers fascinating evidence for those seeking to understand how a society should best invest its research resources.” —The Wall Street Journal From its beginnings in the 1920s until its demise in the 1980s, Bell Labs-officially, the research and development wing of AT&T-was the biggest, and arguably the best, laboratory for new ideas in the world. From the transistor to the laser, from digital communications to cellular telephony, it's hard to find an aspect of modern life that hasn't been touched by Bell Labs. In The Idea Factory, Jon Gertner traces the origins of some of the twentieth century's most important inventions and delivers a riveting and heretofore untold chapter of American history. At its heart this is a story about the life and work of a small group of brilliant and eccentric men-Mervin Kelly, Bill Shockley, Claude Shannon, John Pierce, and Bill Baker-who spent their careers at Bell Labs. Today, when the drive to invent has become a mantra, Bell Labs offers us a way to enrich our understanding of the challenges and solutions to technological innovation. Here, after all, was where the foundational ideas on the management of innovation were born.
