Excerpt from The Intellectual and Moral Development of the Present Age The origin of this little work is indicated in a passage which may be seen near the commencement. It would be unbecoming in the Author to print a copy of the too flattering Resolution of the President and Council of the Hull Literary and Philosophical Society there referred to, and partly in consequence of which, the paper in question, somewhat modified and amplified, is now presented to the public. It treats of subjects which have occupied his thoughts for many years; and all he begs to be given credit for, is a good intention. For the rest, he must surrender himself to criticism with what fortitude he may. Two-thirds of the paper were read on the evening of Tuesday, the 28th December 1852, and listened to with an attention amply repaying the Author's efforts to present an extensive and difficult subject, in an acceptable manner, to a mixed and very large audience. Excerpt from Sketches of Intellectual and Moral Relations Tun Reader having just finished a critical perusal of my title-page, his curiosity, or, perhaps, some motive even less compli mentary, may put him upon inquiring what one, whose business it is to repair the body, has got to do with the mind? Or how one, whose profession is at least in part mechanical, and altogether, as it may appear, averse to specula tion, could presume to interfere with a depart ment so much above his proper sphere? It must be allowed that there is some reason in these exceptions; but I will reply to them by claiming an apology from the customary practice of men, which is, first, to project and to execute their designs, and afterwards inquire how far they were qualified for the undertaking. To some such inversion of the appropriate. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Morality In The Age Of Political Redemption written by András Lánczi and has been published by Ethics International Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-04 with Political Science categories.

In modern times politics in the Western world has become the ultimate source of morality, with the decline of religious and spiritual certainties. Today, public legitimacy, both political and moral, can only be derived from the idea that authority is based on individual decisions. The foundation of modern Western morality is based on the priority of the individual, hence the entitlement of modern democracy. This book is a case in favour of communal based individualism. Narrow-minded individualism can only lead to modern forms of nihilistic morality, such as egoism and narcissism. Today the schisms of morality within Western culture are more and more visible; between the USA and Europe; and is within Europe, which has been exacerbated by the rift between Europe and Russia. The book argues that if these schisms are not handled in a moral sense, then Nietzsche’s prediction that Europe was to face two hundred years of nihilism might come true, and would threaten Western civilization.

The publication of this unique three-volume set represents the culmination of years of work by a large number of scholars, researchers, and professionals in the field of moral development. The literature on moral behavior and development has grown to the point where it is no longer possible to capture the “state of the art” in a single volume. This comprehensive multi-volume Handbook marks an important transition because it provides evidence that the field has emerged as an area of scholarly activity in its own right. Spanning many professional domains, there is a striking variety of issues and topics surveyed: anthropology, biology, economics, education, philosophy, psychology, psychiatry, sociology, social work, and more. By bringing together work on diverse topics, the editors have fostered a mutually-beneficial exchange not only between alternative approaches and perspectives, but also between “applied” and “pure” research interests. The Theory volume presents current and ongoing theoretical advances focusing on new developments or substantive refinements and revisions to existing theoretical frameworks. The Research volume summarizes and interprets the findings of specific, theory-driven, research programs; reviews research in areas that have generated substantial empirical findings; describes recent developments in research methodology/techniques; and reports research on new and emerging issues. The Application volume describes a diverse array of intervention projects — educational, clinical, organizational, and the like. Each chapter includes a summary report of results and findings, conceptual developments, and emerging issues or topics. Since the contributors to this publication are active theorists, researchers, and practitioners, it may serve to define directions that will shape the emerging literature in the field.
