In a world where life is increasingly defined by the spaces we inhabit, understanding interiors is essential to understanding ourselves. The Interiors Theory Primer maps the intellectual terrain of interior design and spatial experience, introducing readers to key concepts that shape how people occupy interior spaces. Organized into three parts, this book begins with foundational concerns, such as place, identity, materiality, and atmosphere, and then examines the boundaries and expertise of the discipline, before turning to critical and emerging topics like biophilia, virtuality, and social justice. Each chapter presents a focused literature review of a major theme in interiors theory, supported by key design precedents and suggestions for further reading. Drawing on a wide range of scholarship, The Interiors Theory Primer offers a coherent framework for understanding interiors as a distinct, interdisciplinary field deeply embedded in the human condition. Accessible to students, useful to professionals, and provocative for scholars, The Interiors Theory Primer argues that the designed environments in which we live, work, and gather deserve greater attention—not only for their aesthetic and functional qualities but also for their powerful role in shaping contemporary life.

Take a holistic approach to contemporary interior design. The interior design process is changing. In order to create truly engaging work, designers are developing a deeper and broader understanding of how design theory, research, and existing practice can help them make better decisions. This inquiry provides answers on how design is experienced, and its impact over time. At the same time, the profession is becoming increasingly collaborative. Designers today work closely with other professionals—such as architects, landscape designers, product designers, anthropologists, and business consultants—in new ways, engaging an expanding network of experts in the design process more than ever before. Written by renowned scholars Joy Dohr and Margaret Portillo, the book brings interior design theory and research to life utilizing a narrative inquiry approach that offers highly accessible coverage of the interior design world as it exists today. By looking at real-life stories that demonstrate what makes a memorable design, coupled with photographs and drawings to further illustrate these concepts, this book is a must-read for anyone interested in keeping abreast of interior design in the twenty-first century.

Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geodynamics Series, Volume 1. The focus of the International Geodynamics Project, 1970–1979, was the movements of the surface and upper part of the earth's interior and it was recognized that most of the deformation occurs along narrow belts between the lithospheric plates. Also important to understanding earth process were those motions, primarily vertical that occurred within the plates, remote from plate boundaries. For this reason one of the 10 working groups set up in 1971 was working group 7 with the title "Eperogenic movements of regional extent" under the chairmanship of Dr. J. Tuzo Wilson. In 1974, after Dr. Wilson resigned following his retirement as Principal of Erindale College, University of Toronto, the Bureau of the Inter-Union Commission on Geodynamics appointed Dr. R. I. Walcott as chairman and the name of his working group was changed to "Dynamics of Plate Interiors". The objective of its programme was to determine the nature and origin of the dynamics of the more stable regions of the earth.
