The process involves the instrumentality of international organizations such as the United Nations Educational and Scientific Organisation(UNESCO), the Institute of International Education (IIE), Education International (EI), the committed will of the teacher by acquiring higher education, hard work and special financial investments. In the survey done with foreign teachers, the data have shown that they are in agreement with the establishment of an international programme-institution that would help teachers acquire higher levels of training and certification. However, while every teacher would not participate for various reasons, the majority would for personal advancement and for the development of education globally. The text also states that teaching is a complex process and requires quality teachers to make it effective and achieve its objectives. Therefore, the teacher should be fairly treated and rewarded so that he can appreciate the offerings of the profession especially at retirement. It concludes by listing the different programmes now in existence that provide some aspects of international training through exchange activities and recommends the names of the most influential organisations. Author Biography Arthur S. Comrie has worked in education and training for forty years as classroom teacher, Co-operative Education Specialist and Principal of All-Age Schools. He taught students at different age levels, kindergarten to adult, and did written work on developmental issues for local newspapers. Currently, he is searching for educational instruments that are applicable to the development of World-Class Standard of Education. He will seek to have them administered according to their relevance at local, national and international levels.

Scenario One Imagine a teacher walking into a classroom. The students stood up to greet the teacher on his or her entrance through the door, and remained standing until they were beckoned to sit down. The students then sat down, with their eyes fixed on the teacher, waiting for instructions on what to do next. The teacher was in absolute control, knew exactly what was going on, and what to expect from the students. On their part, the students knew exactly what to expect from the teacher; standing up to greet the teacher on his or her entrance into the classroom was normal. In fact, it was cultural. They had therefore not done anything extraordinary. The teacher proceeded to have a verygood class period. Nothing different was expected; this was a normal day. Scenario Two Imagine the same teacher, with the same expectations as in Scenario One, walking into a different classroom. The students did not stand up to greet him or her; they did not know about such a tradition, nor was it a part of their culture. In fact, some were standing and chatting with friends as he or she entered the classroom.

With the growth of globalization, people and cultures are coming together like never before. As an international teacher, I am an example of this phenomenon. After six years abroad, the last three working at an international school in Mongolia, I returned to Canada noticeably changed and struggling to understand the impact of my experiences. Limited literature on international teacher experience led me to engage in this self-study in which I use methods of narrative inquiry to better understand my personal journey of learning and change over the three years that I lived and taught in Mongolia. As I unpack my journey, the artifacts that I remove from my backpack trigger memories of the moments that hold significance. I further 'unpack' my vignettes, drawing out the issues that have impacted my changing identity. As newly qualified teachers seek positions in the competitive job market, the international arena remains an appealing option. It is my hope that this book will serve to instigate self-analysis in the reader and serve as a focal point for discussion on issues that could arise while living and teaching overseas.
