This study approaches the difficult problem of providing Internet users with a completely transparent view on electronic markets from a product information accessibility point of view. Robert Neumann analyzes economic, ecological, and societal gains of openly accessible product information in the form of theoretical models. Though many aspects of very different research disciplines have to be investigated to gain a holistic view on the Internet of Products, this thesis reduces the range of involved research topics to product information discoverability related questions.

A guided tour through the Internet of Things, a networked world of connected devices, objects, and people that is changing the way we live and work. We turn on the lights in our house from a desk in an office miles away. Our refrigerator alerts us to buy milk on the way home. A package of cookies on the supermarket shelf suggests that we buy it, based on past purchases. The cookies themselves are on the shelf because of a “smart” supply chain. When we get home, the thermostat has already adjusted the temperature so that it's toasty or bracing, whichever we prefer. This is the Internet of Things—a networked world of connected devices, objects, and people. In this book, Samuel Greengard offers a guided tour through this emerging world and how it will change the way we live and work. Greengard explains that the Internet of Things (IoT) is still in its early stages. Smart phones, cloud computing, RFID (radio-frequency identification) technology, sensors, and miniaturization are converging to make possible a new generation of embedded and immersive technology. Greengard traces the origins of the IoT from the early days of personal computers and the Internet and examines how it creates the conceptual and practical framework for a connected world. He explores the industrial Internet and machine-to-machine communication, the basis for smart manufacturing and end-to-end supply chain visibility; the growing array of smart consumer devices and services—from Fitbit fitness wristbands to mobile apps for banking; the practical and technical challenges of building the IoT; and the risks of a connected world, including a widening digital divide and threats to privacy and security. Finally, he considers the long-term impact of the IoT on society, narrating an eye-opening “Day in the Life” of IoT connections circa 2025.

The rapid development of the Internet has led to a growing potential for electronic trade in digital content like movies, music and software. As a result, there is a need for a global trade framework applicable to such digitally-delivered content products. Yet, digital trade is currently not explicitly recognised by the trade rules and obligations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This study provides a complete analysis of the related challenges in the ongoing WTO Doha Negotiations to remedy this state of affairs. It elaborates on the required measures in the multilateral negotiations to achieve market access for digital content and examines the obstacles that lie on the path to reach consensus between the United States and the European Communities. Negotiation parameters analysed include the current US and EC regulatory approach to audiovisual and information society services and the evolution of their applicable trade policy jurisdiction. Finally, this examination takes stock of how the Doha Negotiations and parallel US-driven preferential trade agreement have so far contributed to securing free trade in digital content. As new technologies are an increasingly prominent source of trade dispute, this book is an assessment of how WTO Members can maintain the relevance of the multilateral trade framework in a changing technological and economic environment. "This important work highlights the missed opportunity in on-going global trade talks -- the failure to pursue a free trade framework for digitally delivered content. If not corrected, one can readily imagine the rise of discriminatory barriers to digital trade of the type that have dogged global trade flows for years, and a failed recognition by the WTO of the reality of modern commerce. The WTO should, as the author argues, put a "spotlight" on electronic trade, and move forward in a comprehensive fashion." Ambassador Charlene Barshefsky, Former United States Trade Representative "Wunsch-Vincent provides a comprehensive analysis of the challenges to establish a liberal trade regime for trade in digital products. This book will become an important point-of-reference for anybody interested in e-commerce and the WTO." Carlos A. Primo Braga, Senior Adviser, International Trade Department, The World Bank

In recent years, the importance of Internet and World Wide Web (WWW) technologies in manufacturing industries has been rising very rapidly in a global context, the impact of which is deemed most profound ever since the Industrial Revolution. The waving interests in the electronic commerce and electronic business (e-commerce / e-business) have spread, from the heartland (product development) to the battlefield (shop floor), of manufacturing enterprises. The number of web applications is ever on the rise, and many practitioners are keen on trying these remote systems through web browsers to support their decisi- making activities. Indeed, product design and manufacture professionals will soon be able to benefit from such remote services and supports commercially available on the Internet. The practice and performance of product development and realization are expected to make immense progress. Web applications in product design and manufacture signals the beginning of a new era of the digital manufacturing enterprise. However, many loopholes are found in the development and application processes because of domain complexity and technology sophistication, thus generating new challenges to both the developers and practitioners. A simple example is the difference in the user interfaces between web applications and traditional applications. Indeed, abundant issues need to be resolved before the full launch of digital manufacturing can come into being.

The unrestrainable explosion of the world wide web is not bereft of troubles and drawbacks, especially for inexpert users. Therefore there is a strong need of new research approaches in term of theories and systems. The main objective of this book is to provide new tools and ideas to enhance the power of the internet and search engines. Among these new research trends an important role is played by technologies that enable to process imprecise information, and to perform approximate reasoning capability. This book written by leading experts in their field demonstrates the ability of Fuzzy Technology to exploit the tolerance for imprecision to achieve tractability, robustness, and low solution costs and it shows that soft computing methods are a good choice to face complex Web problems.
