The Invention of Jesus is a pivotal, ground-breaking work, arguably one of the most important ever written in the field of New Testament textual analysis, and one that should direct scholastic endeavour for years to come. The author has developed some new techniques and taken an indepth look at the earliest surviving manuscripts of the gospels describing the life and death of Jesus as well as letters, attributed to Paul and others, to the outposts of the early Church. There are papyrus fragments, some from as early as the second century, and then later manuscripts written on parchment, with fewer gaps in the text. The vast majority are written in Greek - the language of Empire and of the early Church. Cresswell carefully analyses the surviving texts to show how doctrines, such as the divinity of Jesus and the Resurrection, have been progressively introduced into the narrative. By establishing what has been added, he defines what part of the character of Jesus the Christian Church has, over time, invented. He provides a solution to a highly unusual and hitherto baffling pattern of scribal cooperation in the New Testament of Codex Sinaiticus. Clues within the manuscript show that sheets by a second scribe could not have been generated to correct mistakes, as others have since contended. These must have been written in a division of labour, whose purpose was to introduce doctrinally motivated changes to the text. In resolving these puzzles, the author reveals something of the struggle that took place in the scriptorium, as the early Church manipulated the text to impose its message.

The author presents new arguments which support the view that Paul, not Jesus, was the founder of Christianity. He argues that Jesus and also his immediate disciples James and Peter were life-long adherents of Pharisaic Judaism. Paul, however, was not, as he claimed, a native-born Jew of Pharisee upbringing, but came in fact from a Gentile background. He maintains that it was Paul alone who created a new religion by his vision of Jesus as a Divine Saviour who died to save humanity. This concept, which went far beyond the messianic claims of Jesus, was an amalgamation of ideas derived from Hellenistic religion, especially from Gnosticism and the mystery cults. Paul played a devious and adventurous political game with Jesus' followers of the so-called Jerusalem Church, who eventually disowned him. The conclusions of this historical and psychological study will come as a shock to many readers, but it is nevertheless a book which cannot be ignored by anyone concerned with the foundations of our culture and society. -- Book jacket.

The Invention of Christianity is an exploration of the influence that Hellenization had on the evolution of Judaism into Christianity. It investigates how the stories of Dionysus could have evolved into that of Jesus, how rituals of the Dionysian mysteries are now found in Christianity, and the evolution of the Greek conception of the afterlife into the current Christian conception of Heaven and Hell. This book utilizes many of the ideas put forth in Drake's first book The Invention of Religion throughout its investigation. It also looks into whether the Bible really had a divine source or was invented by humans and contains two appendices charting the age of the world according to the bible and the stories contained in each of the synoptic gospels.

This introductory volume of Dr. Keim's Life of Jesus is translated from the German without omission or alteration, save that from preface, and once or twice from the text, have been excised a few purely personal remarks and discussions which could have no interest in England. The notes also have been for the most part preserved, a feature which will, it may be, prove less needful in the later volumes. So few of the works to which reference is made have been translated into English, that it has seemed best to give the references in all cases to the originals; since those few who will take the trouble to turn to them will usually be able to test the references in the original languages, even if they prefer to read the bulk of such books in their own tongue. It is intended that the whole work shall be completed with the same literalness, and that there shall be no needless delay in the issue of succeeding volumes. --Notice by the Editor May, 1873

Caesar S Messiah The Roman Conspiracy To Invent Jesus written by Joseph Atwill and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Christianity categories.

"Caesar's Messiah," a real life "Da Vinci Code," presents the dramatic and controversial discovery that the conventional views of Christian origins may be wrong. Author Joseph Atwill makes the case that the Christian Gospels were actually written under the direction of first-century Roman emperors. The purpose of these texts was to establish a peaceful Jewish sect to counterbalance the militaristic Jewish forces that had just been defeated by the Roman Emperor Titus in 70 A.D. Atwill uncovered the secret key to this story in the writings of Josephus, the famed first-century Roman historian. Reading Josephus's chronicle, "The War of the Jews," the author found detail after detail that closely paralleled events recounted in the Gospels. Atwill skillfully demonstrates that the emperors used the Gospels to spark a new religious movement that would aid them in maintaining power and order. What's more, by including hidden literary clues, they took the story of the Emperor Titus's glorious military victory, as recounted by Josephus, and embedded that story in the Gospels - a sly and satirical way of glorifying the emperors through the ages.

Jesus Christ is arguably the most famous man who ever lived. His image adorns countless churches, icons, and paintings. He is the subject of millions of statues, sculptures, devotional objects and works of art. Everyone can conjure an image of Jesus: usually as a handsome, white man with flowing locks and pristine linen robes. But what did Jesus really look like? Is our popular image of Jesus overly westernized and untrue to historical reality? This question continues to fascinate. Leading Christian Origins scholar Joan E. Taylor surveys the historical evidence, and the prevalent image of Jesus in art and culture, to suggest an entirely different vision of this most famous of men. He may even have had short hair.

THIS IS AN EXPOSE ON HOW JESUS CHRIST WAS INVENTED. THE FOCUS IS ON HOW THE NAMES OF SPECIFIC PERSONS WERE USED TO INVENT THE DETAIL OF THE VARIOUS STORIES. FOR EXAMPLE THE T IN CHRIST IS A CROSS, THE WORD RISE IS PRESENT IN THE NAME ALSO, ALTHOUGH IT IS SPELLED PHONETICALLY AS - RIS. WHEN WE ADD THEM TOGETHER WE GET "RISE and CRUCIFIED ON A CROSS. THE STORY ABOUT CHRIST DOES INCLUDE HOW HE ROSE (RISE) FROM THE DEAD AFTER BEING CRUCIFIED. THIS IS AN ABREVIATED INTERPRETATION. THERE IS A LOT MORE TO THESE STORIES THAN I CAN PRESENT IN A QUICK SUMMARY. NONE OF THE STORIES ABOUT CHRIST ARE TRUE. HE WAS NOT INVENTED FROM WHOLE CLOTH AS THEY SAY. HIS LIFE WAS BASED TO SOME EXTENT ON AN EGYPTIAN PHAROAH WHO CALLED HIMSELF THE SON OF GOD (RAH), SENT TO EARTH TO RULE IN HIS PLACE. THE NAMES JESUS, CHRIST, LAZARUS, GABRIEL AND MANY MORE WERE USED TO INVENT THIS WONDERFUL COLLECTION OF MYTHOLOGICAL FABLES THAT WE COLLECTIVELY CALL THE NEW TESTAMENT.
