"No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it." Albert Einstein THE CONSCIOUSNESS QUOTIENT (CQ) presents a breakthrough approach to understanding leadership. Drawing on Eastern and Western philosophy, science, and spirituality, C. J. Cloutier develops an intriguing hypothesis of brain, mind, and consciousness that interprets and brings meaning to Einstein's statement. His philosophy of consciousness is designed to raise the bar on traditional leadership practices that have contributed to worldwide problems, such as the unequal distribution of wealth, widespread pollution, and the ruthless exploitation of natural resources. The transmutational leadership model portrayed in CQ encompasses techniques that bring choiceful awareness to the ethical and moral paradoxes, dilemmas, and conundrums that leaders face in their day-to-day decisions. The Consciousness Quotient demonstrates unequivocally that elevating individual and collective consciousness will help create a saner, economically balanced, more just society and safeguard the future for Planet Earth and for our children. www.transmutational-leadership.com

Written by a group of distinguished philosophers, the Foundations of Philosophy Series aims to exhibit some of the main problems in the various fields of philosophy at the present stage of philosophical inquiry. This book is written from the viewpoint that although justice is the most important concept in political philosophy, it is also one of the most contested concepts in philosophy. Coverage begins with an overview of the concept of justice, arguing that justice is a vital part of political philosophy, which in turn is part of moral philosophy. The book outlines an objectivist view of moral philosophy, which holds that moral principles have universal validity. The material presents a philosophical map to navigate the plethora of confusing, competing theories and concepts regarding the importance of justice. The author distinguishes between formal and material concepts of justice and discusses the related issues of comparative/noncomparative justice and distributive versus commutative justice.

An incisive look at how evangelical Christians shaped—and were shaped by—the American criminal justice system. America incarcerates on a massive scale. Despite recent reforms, the United States locks up large numbers of people—disproportionately poor and nonwhite—for long periods and offers little opportunity for restoration. Aaron Griffith reveals a key component in the origins of American mass incarceration: evangelical Christianity. Evangelicals in the postwar era made crime concern a major religious issue and found new platforms for shaping public life through punitive politics. Religious leaders like Billy Graham and David Wilkerson mobilized fears of lawbreaking and concern for offenders to sharpen appeals for Christian conversion, setting the stage for evangelicals who began advocating tough-on-crime politics in the 1960s. Building on religious campaigns for public safety earlier in the twentieth century, some preachers and politicians pushed for “law and order,” urging support for harsh sentences and expanded policing. Other evangelicals saw crime as a missionary opportunity, launching innovative ministries that reshaped the practice of religion in prisons. From the 1980s on, evangelicals were instrumental in popularizing criminal justice reform, making it a central cause in the compassionate conservative movement. At every stage in their work, evangelicals framed their efforts as colorblind, which only masked racial inequality in incarceration and delayed real change. Today evangelicals play an ambiguous role in reform, pressing for reduced imprisonment while backing law-and-order politicians. God’s Law and Order shows that we cannot understand the criminal justice system without accounting for evangelicalism’s impact on its historical development.

Since the Industrial Revolution, the idea of “work” has been disconnected from what it means to be human. Even today, many workplaces are missing attributes like relationality, harmony, unity and equality. What if a more holistic approach—one that embraces each worker as a spiritual being related to every other being—could lead to more satisfying and purposeful work? Based on her extensive academic and practical experience in culture and learning in the workplace, Marie Gervais, PhD, examines the fascinating relationship between people and work. She combines ancient wisdom, modern science, and real-world examples to share insight on how to develop a soul-sustaining workplace culture. This book will help you: • Understand the interconnections between science, business practices and sacred texts as they relate to work • Build management skills based on what real humans need to succeed and develop at work • Find practical tools and workplace examples to apply to management as a soul-enhancing journey • Rethink common but destructive workplace cultural assumptions • See yourself as a spiritual being with thoughts and actions that have lasting effects • Feel the power of holistic experience as central to work The Spirit of Work offers a high-level yet approachable model to rethink how we view and structure work. This is a book for leaders, changemakers, and anyone who yearns to build a humane and sustainable system of work.

A New Juvenile Justice System written by Nancy E. Dowd and has been published by NYU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-15 with Law categories.

A New Juvenile Justice System aims at nothing less than a complete reform of the existing system: not minor change or even significant overhaul, but the replacement of the existing system with a different vision. The authors in this volume—academics, activists, researchers, and those who serve in the existing system—all respond in this collection to the question of what the system should be. Uniformly, they agree that an ideal system should be centered around the principle of child well-being and the goal of helping kids to achieve productive lives as citizens and members of their communities. Rather than the existing system, with its punitive, destructive, undermining effect and uneven application by race and gender, these authors envision a system responsive to the needs of youth as well as to the community’s legitimate need for public safety. How, they ask, can the ideals of equality, freedom, liberty, and self-determination transform the system? How can we improve the odds that children who have been labeled as “delinquent” can make successful transitions to adulthood? And how can we create a system that relies on proven, family-focused interventions and creates opportunities for positive youth development? Drawing upon interdisciplinary work as well as on-the-ground programs and experience, the authors sketch out the broad parameters of such a system. Providing the principles, goals, and concrete means to achieve them, this volume imagines using our resources wisely and well to invest in all children and their potential to contribute and thrive in our society.
