In the Bible, way is a technical term that designates a person's pattern of behavior or his lifestyle. There are two ways presented in the Bible: the way of the wicked that leads ultimately to ruin and eternal death, and the way of the righteous that leads ultimately to eternal life. We all begin our pilgrimage through this present life on the way of the wicked. It is only by an intentional act of repentance and faith that we make the transition to the way of the righteous. In the 15th chapter of 1 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul presents a canonical outline for the Christian gospel, the centerpiece of which is the historical factuality of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from a rock-cut tomb after He had been dead for 3 days and 3 nights. The Kerygma: A Model for Proclaiming the Christian Gospel sets forth a pattern for sharing the gospel which reflects both aspects of the two-part Christian gospel discussed in the study, Walking in the Way of Christ & the Apostles; that is, the gospel of the kingdom of God and the gospel of God. The gospel of the kingdom of God confronts our prideful rebellion against the righteous rule of God, and the gospel of God confronts our bondage to evil, sin, and death. The proper response to the Christian gospel requires our obedience as well as belief.

Francisco ("Kiko") Argüello was an award-winning painter, and an atheist. Struggling with the contrast between his desire for justice and the lack of justice in the world, he adopted existentialism and its explanation of life: everything is absurd. But if everything is absurd, why paint? For that matter, why even live? Such questions led Argüello to the brink of despair. He called out to God and personally experienced the reality of divine love as revealed in Jesus Christ. Dedicating his life to Christ, Argüello began living among the very poor. While in a slum on the outskirts of Madrid, Argüello met the lay missionary Carmen Hernández, and together they began proclaiming the good news of salvation to the poorest of the poor. Their method of transmitting faith in Christ and building Christian community has become a model of evangelization. Now known as the "Neocatchumenal Way", it has spread to cities throughout the world and received the approval of the Vatican.

Proclaiming The Kerygma In Athens written by Monique Cuany and has been published by Mohr Siebeck this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-09 with categories.

Monique Cuany seeks to answer two major questions which still divide and puzzle commentators with respect to the speech in Athens in Acts 17:16-34: What is the relationship between the speech's main part and its 'Christian conclusion'? And what is the relationship between the speech's message and Greek philosophy? Through an in-depth analysis of the religious and philosophical context alluded to in Acts 17 and a careful verse by verse examination of the speech, the author proposes a new answer to both of these questions. She suggests that the so-called Christian appendix, which has long seemed totally disconnected from the rest of the speech and lacking historical verisimilitude in light of the audience depicted by the narrative, is actually the climax of the argument of the speech and would have been more easily understood by a Greek audience than has been thought in the past.

The form critic Rudolf Bultmann had argued that we cannot get behind the use the early church made of Jesus traditions, so as to be able to talk about Jesus himself, and that we do not need to do so in any case. For the essence of Christianity is, after all, the kerygma of his death and resurrection. But his pupil Ernst Ksemann argued that this leaves Jesus rather ghostlike in our world, where historical research is used to establish historical reality it would amount to a modern kind of Docetism. Hence the Bultmann school shifted to a new quest of the historical Jesus, with Gunter Bornkamm's Jesus of Nazareth being the most widely-read outcome. Robinson traces this development step by step, and then in subsequent essays updates.

The eschatological and dualistic symbolism of the early Christians has misled us into thinking that the Gospel in its classic period has no concern with what we call social change, writes Wilder. Saint Paul's apparently conservative social views must be understood in light of his expectation of Christ's imminent return; his is an "emergency ethic." But going beyond Paul's explicit social teachings to his kerygmatic affirmations, we see that the "principalities and powers" over which Christ has triumphed also refer to the corrupted structures of society. The social-ethical significance of the kerygma becomes discernible as soon as we learn to interpret the mythological expressions of the New Testament in historical terms.

How can we transmit a living, personal Catholic faith to future generations? By coming to know Jesus Christ, and following him as his disciples. These are times of immense challenge and immense opportunity for the Catholic Church. Consider these statistics for the United States. Only 30 percent of Americans who were raised Catholic are still practicing. Fully 10 percent of all adults in America are ex-Catholics. The number of marriages celebrated in the Church decreased dramatically, by nearly 60 percent, between 1972 and 2010. Only 60 percent of Catholics believe in a personal God. If the Church is to reverse these trends, the evangelizers must first be evangelized-in other words, Catholics-in-the-pew must make a conscious choice to know and follow Jesus before they can draw others to him. This work of discipleship lies at the heart of Forming Intentional Disciples, a book designed to help Church leaders, parish staff and all Catholics transform parish life from within. Drawing upon her fifteen years of experience with the Catherine of Siena Institute, Sherry Weddell leads readers through steps that will help Catholics enter more deeply into a relationship with God and the river of apostolic creativity, charisms, and vocation that flow from that relationship for the sake of the Church and the world. Learn about the five thresholds of postmodern conversion, how to open a conversation about faith and belief, how to ask thought-provoking questions and establish an atmosphere of trust, when to tell the Great Story of Jesus, how to help someone respond to God's call to intentional discipleship, and much more. And be prepared for conversion because when life at the parish level changes, the life of the whole Church will change.
