Kindness has fallen on hard times. Almost daily, we witness or experience cynicism, impatience, or incivility. And it begins to wear on a soul. Overall, we’re not doing well. We need hope. We need truth. We need God. In The Kindness of God, pastor and teacher Nate Pickowicz shows how our lives must be understood and lived in light of God’s kindness. Pickowicz brings the reader along a joy-filled journey of discovering God’s lifegiving lovingkindness and compassion. This book is for Christians overwhelmed with their life circumstances. It’s for anyone who is feeling disappointment or hurt from a fractured relationship. It’s for all those who are discouraged by caustic political discourse. This is a book about God - a collection of stories, compiled by an engineer, written by people who have met Him and found that it changed their lives. The accounts are gentle, positive, joyful, comforting, and full of lovingkindness. They show us that God is truly our divine parent who loves us and cares for us. "What a wonderful gift this book is! The stories shared within its covers are truly inspirational, miraculous and joyous! Many thanks." Barbara Naylor, Homemaker "I want the world to know: This is a book to have, to read, to share. I cried upon reading some pages, I was too intrigued to stop reading the other pages. The personal accounts from different people made me feel connected to their stories on a level I haven't encountered yet myself." Kim Losurdo, Human Resources Rep "What a wonderfully comforting book! The stories show that God is not remote from us. He is truly here with us, aware of our needs and guiding us with love and kindness." Let’s be honest: there are gaps everywhere in life - the gap between who we are and who we would like to be; the gap between the Christianity we profess and the Christianity we practise; the gap between us and those we love; the gap between the world as it is and the world as it should be. We feel disconnected from God, from one another and from ourselves. How do we close those gaps? How is God working to make us whole? This book brings the gospel to bear on the gaps in our lives. Drawing on a highly unusual lifetime’s experience living out the Christian faith in more than twenty countries, Graham Hooper shows how we can be made whole in the struggles and joys of everyday life - work and relationships, success and failure, service and weakness.

The book of Ruth is a love story. Like all love stories it has twists and turns, tension and resolution, and a happy ending. But it's far more than that because it reveals to us a God who is deeply committed to caring for his people. In Boaz, God provides Ruth with a loving husband to free and provide for her, pointing us to the Bible's grand story of redemption and David’s greatest son, Jesus. Tony Merida's compelling story-telling and Christ-centered insights make this both an accessible and absorbing expository guide to the book of Ruth. It can be used for personal devotions, or for leading small-group studies, or for sermon preparation.

For the Christian, no magic wand exists to soul winning, i.e. win the lost to Christ. God has given us foundational principles such as using the law, wisdom, prayer, etc., to guide us in our efforts to individually and corporately obey the mandate of the Great Commission. However, the foundation for all our efforts must be God's nature of kindness. Without a strong foundation building cannot either be erected nor long remain erect, so too, without God's nature of kindness, no amount of effort, no matter how sincere will be effective in drawing the lost to the cross of Christ. The goodness of God, i.e. the kindness of God is not simply a nice sounding clichE but the very key to unlocking the unbeliever's heart!

At the heart of my life is a divine center, a "still small voice," that illumines the face of God and lights my adventurous path. This book is about A Center that Holds and seeks to show how God relates to the world and all things in the world as an artist painting kindness on the canvas of life, tenderly revealing what we can become when we are centered in kindness. Central to the book is the firm conviction that God gives transforming love energies for kindness and calls for communities of kindness that nurture us in tender and mysterious ways, patiently guiding us to act, perceive, and love in new, richer ways each day. In this life of journeying with God, adventures belong to the adventurous. The sub-title, Adventures in Kindness, captures this truth. This understanding of God springs from my own personal experience. My father and mother were examples of patient kindness for me and my six brothers and six sisters. My father often prayed in our little country Church, and one of his favorite expressions was "Kind Father." He started his prayers with this address and repeated it several times throughout the prayer. I can still hear his tone of voice in my mind. It brings me peace and joy just to remember and reflect upon it. I hope you take time as you read this book to reflect on moments in your own life that have changed you in positive ways. It has taken a long time to become me, and I am still becoming. I pray that God leads you in glorious ways through the journey of this book.At age sixteen, my dad praying aloud in Church made me roll my eyes and feel embarrassed. Of course, it didn't take much to embarrass me as an adolescent. Today I treasure this memory and it has helped me to be a kinder person. My mother and father taught me by word and example that God is kind. They were gentle and loving parents and they made it easy for all thirteen of us to believe in a gentle and loving God. For children, parents, adoptive parents, and caregivers truly are the first bridge to the kindness of God. Kindness is my hermeneutic (interpretive principle) for understanding God revealed in the Bible, and my theology springs from this source and holds up the tender teachings of Jesus as the guiding light for our lives, our churches, and our world. Some words have a way of changing their meaning, and it is best to say that words have living, dynamic usage and not a once for all time meaning. Gentleness and tenderness have almost come to signify weakness in our culture. The tenderness of my parents was a tenacious and tough tenderness, not milk toasty. Also Jesus displayed a tough tenderness in dealing with his critics and with his own disciples. My faith in the power of Kindness is informed by process philosophy, psychology, history of religions, and science. It borrows from poetry, music, and art. Two of my goals in writing this book are to give inspiration for authentic identity and to give guidance in building lasting communities that sustains us through all the phases of life.
