In the cultural hub of 1880s' Lahore Kay Robinson has taken over as editor of the Civil and Military Gazette. Assisting him is the young and impressionable Rudyard Kipling, a lonely, impulsive man who dreams of becoming a writer. Kipling's literary pursuits have been dismissed as fanciful and foolish by his previous boss. But Robinson is different. He encourages the young 'Ruddy', allowing him greater creative freedom at the Gazette. As he becomes Ruddy's friend and confidant, Robinson gains access to intimate glimpses of the Kipling family, where he is smitten by Ruddy's sister Trix. Narrated by Robinson, The Kipling File is a moving story of doomed friendship and difficult love recounted against the powerful backdrop of Anglo-Indian life in a Punjab that has begun to stir with anti-colonial sentiment. Through his eyes unfold the turmoils that shaped the author of beloved classics like The Jungle Book and Kim. In Sudhir Kakar's luminous prose, Kipling emerges as a man of compelling contradictions-a mercurial genius whose immense talent was in pitched battle with his inner demons.

This new bibliography of Rudyard Kipling, the first English-language author to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, is the first to appear in fifty years and the first to incorporate modern standards of collation, binding cloth description, publication dates and prices, and dust jacket description. It fully describes 480 first editions, authorized and unauthorized, appearing as books, pamphlets, leaflets, and broadsides from 1881 through 2008 in British India, England, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and Chile--a dozen of which titles were not noted by prior bibliographers. This work also includes 127 titles of books with contributions from Kipling, 17 titles containing prefaces, introductory letters and forewords by Kipling, and 123 titles first printing his private letters. These primary entries, besides describing each edition by publication type, size, pagination formula, binding, binding texture, ISCC-NBS color system name, dust jacket, copyright data, and cross-references to prior bibliographies, also include information on institutional library locations, manuscripts, and significant first editions of the title in later publishers' series and in other countries. Also described are all important association and presentation copies of Kipling's earliest works, with full inscriptions and institutional collection locations. Other major sections describe collected and uniform sets, editions listed by prior bibliographers that are not first editions but are collectible, and misattributions. Significant innovations in this bibliography include the first complete chronological list of all of Kipling's newspaper and periodical appearances, the first examination of all English and American auction sale catalogues with lots of his editions (significant copies are cross-referenced in the entry texts), and separate listings of unauthorized private editions and private editions as first editions, musical settings of the poems, plays based on Kipling's works, film treatments in motion pictures and for television, published drawings and caricatures, and Kipling's symbols: the swastika and the Ganesh. Further appendices include a chronology of the author's life and major works, and titles of biographical studies of Rudyard and his immediate family. These contents are present in one substantial volume containing the primary entries, grayscale images of bindings and title pages, and indices. The second volume, containing all the other classified sections, is included on the enclosed CD-ROM, along with color images of bindings and title pages.

Rudyard Kipling S Uncollected Speeches written by Rudyard Kipling and has been published by E & L Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Speeches, addresses, etc., English categories.

"A Book of Words, Kipling's own selection of his speeches published in 1928, reflects a variety of topics and audiences. He spoke to schoolboys about literature, to Brazilians about "the spirit of the Latin," to the Royal Geographical Society about travel, to navy men about sailors, to ship owners about shipping, to university students about independence. The list goes on, revealing interests and activities far more various than most men of letters would ever think of undertaking. Before the end of his life Kipling added a few more speeches to the version of the book that appeared, posthumously, in the splendid Sussex Edition of his collected works. Even so, many of his speeches have remained uncollected and virtually unknown." "A Second Book of Words collects what Kipling left uncollected. The speeches in this new book date from 1884 to 1935. We see Kipling at different moments before different audiences. We hear how he talked to his Sussex neighbors, or how he addressed a parliamentary committee, or a South African election meeting, or a club of London doctors, or his fellow honorary degree recipients at Cambridge. The more substantial, formal speeches are equally various, marked by Kipling s mastery of language, a few passing over into a violent extravagance of feeling - the attack on the Liberal government in the speech of 16 May 1914 or the speech on war aims of 15 February 1918. Usually, however, the tone is urbane, the artistic aim to instruct through delight. Kipling knew that the maker of speeches and the poet were subject to the same law: "Unless they please they are not heard at all."" "A Second Book of Words adds another forty-eight speeches to the thirty-eight that Kipling chose to make public, printing all the known uncollected speeches - long or short, carefully meditated or spontaneous, tendentious or diplomatic. Another twenty-five for which no text has so far been found are identified, as are the speeches that he is known to have written for members of the royal family." "Professor Pinney, editor of the six-volume The Letters of Rudyard Kipling, brings his extensive knowledge of Kipling s life and writings to the volume with an informative introduction, headnotes to contextualize each speech, and a complete checklist of all the speeches. Altogether, the edition is a considerable contribution to Kipling s canon and to an important but neglected area of the Kipling bibliography." --Book Jacket.
