The ancient practice of Lectio Divina is igniting believers once again with a passion for the Word of God. With the four simple steps of this practice, even a young child can hear God voice in His Word. Lectio Divina, which means "divine reading" was practiced for centuries in monasteries. Now, it is being reintroduced to Christians across denominational lines, resulting in encounters with Christ who is the Word of God. This practice works for individuals, couples, or even small groups. If Bible reading has become routine for you, your family or your church, this simple method of meditating on the Scriptures can transform you and your relationship with God.

Religions carry strong visions of renewal and thereby have the potential to trigger dynamics of change in all spheres of human life. Religions have contributed to societal transformation and processes of renewal spark intensive theological debates. The renewal of religious identity is informed by how religious communities interpret their traditions and past, present, and future challenges to themselves, society and the world at large. How do religious communities understand their own resources and criteria for renewal in the twenty-first century? In this publication, Jewish, Christian and Muslim scholars analyze and reflect on the meaning and dynamics of religious renewal and explore the meaning of religious renewal across religious traditions.

Jewish symbols reflect the interaction of word and image within Jewish culture. Jews have always studied, interpreted, and revered sacred texts; they have also adorned the settings and occasions of sacred acts. Calligraphy and ornamentation have transformed Hebrew letters into art; quotation, interpretation, legend, and wordplay have made ceremonial objects into narrative. This book represents just such a collaboration between art and language. Ellen Frankel and Betsy Platkin Teutsch, writer and artist, have brought their extensive knowledge and talents together to create The Encyclopedia of Jewish Symbols, the first reference guide of its kind, designed for use by educators, artists, rabbis, folklorists, feminists, Jewish and non-Jewish scholars, and lay readers.

There are many people and many authors who believe that civilization, mankind or our species has amnesia. I do not believe this. I believe we have been lied to since the beginning of recorded history and even before that. The first half of this book is about our four previous civilizations, and the ‘out of place artifacts’ and knowledge that has been hidden, debunked, lost or forgotten, such as the giant skeletons recorded in most newspapers in the 19th century, recorded Indian Vimanas that flew powered by a spinning plasma engines in 7,000 BCE, as well as flying ‘Aeros’ in Bavaria and the Western United States. It is about the Cro-Magnon giants of the Atlantean civilization escaping to the area of the Caucasus Mountains, Northern Africa, the Canary Islands and the East Coast of the Americas during the Solar System cataclysm in 10,900 BCE. It is about that same tall Atlantean Aryan (Iranian) race with blue eyes and red and blonde hair that migrated from the Caucasus mountains and became the ruling class from China to Egypt. It is also the story of the stealing, destroying, hiding and perverting the occult and lost knowledge of the ‘Brotherhood’ by the High-priests of Egypt, known as the Scarlet Council, so that only they could control who could become part of their ‘New Brotherhood’. That ancient knowledge was also perverted by the addition of the Jewish Kabbalah, a mixture of alchemy, numerology, gematria and magic, as well as, by the Alumbrados, an emerging occult movement founded by Spanish Marranos. The members were baptized Jews who secretly kept their Telmudic faith. Also, the Khazars, Krypto Jews from near the Black Sea, with their knowledge of Babylonian black magic and money magic perverted the Mysteries. This confusing jumble was added to the existing Egyptian Osiris-Isis-Horus Cult, which was the basis of Freemasonry, which was infiltrated by Adam Weishaupt and his 2000 members, along with the Jesuits and the Vatican. This became the ‘New Illuminati’. Finally, it is about the control of the masses by religion and by the alchemy of social engineering to manipulate the masses through disinformation, brainwashing, and the fear of terror. It uses mass death rituals like 9/11 and public assassination rituals such as that of JFK for shock value. The use of this alchemical social engineering is used in the engineering of consent in order to ‘protect’ the masses from the terror and hopelessness, that the ‘Brotherhood’, itself, has created. This culture of control can also be seen by the use of political correctness, the additional attempts to limit free speech and the creation of hopelessness, mistrust and eugenics by lockdowns, masks, quarantines, and forced use of untested injections. Remember the Nuremberg Code and Never Again? That was a lie, as well. We are living it that lie.

Preaching's Preacher's Guide to the Best Bible Reference How can we account for the "Book of the Law" suddenly being discovered during Josiah's renovation of the temple (2 Chron 34:14)? We know from Egypt and Mesopotamia that it was common to seal important documents--including theological documents--in the masonry or foundations of a palace or temple in order to inform a future king who might undertake restoration of the building. What might the psalmist have had in mind when praising God for removing our transgressions "as far as the east is from the west" (Ps 103:12)? In an Egyptian hymn to Amun-Re, the deity is praised for his judgment of the guilty. As a result of the god's discernment the guilty are assigned to the east and the righteous to the west. What is meant by God "weighing the heart" (Prov 21:2)? In Egyptian religious tradition we find the notion of the dead being judged before the gods. As the soul is examined, the dead person's heart is weighed in a scale against a feather symbolizing Truth. If the answers are correct and the heart does not outweigh the feather, the soul may enter the realm of everlasting life. The narratives, genealogies, laws, poetry, proverbs and prophecies of the Old Testament are deeply rooted in history. Archaeologists, historians and social scientists have greatly advanced our knowledge of the ancient world of the Bible. When we illuminate the stories of Abraham or David, the imagery of the Psalms or Proverbs, or the prophecies of Isaiah or Jeremiah with this backlight of culture and history, these texts spring to new life. The unique commentary joins The IVP Bible Background Commentary: New Testament in providing historical, social and cultural background for each passage of the Old Testament. From Genesis through Malachi, this single volume gathers and condenses an abundance of specialized knowledge--making it available and accessible to ordinary readers of the Old Testament. Expert scholars John Walton, Victor Matthews and Mark Chavalas have included along with the fruits of their research and collaboration a glossary of historical terms, ancient peoples, texts and inscriptions maps and charts of important historical resources expanded explanations of significant background issues introductory essays on each book of the Old Testament The IVP Bible Background Commentary: Old Testament will enrich your experience of the Old Testament--and your teaching and preaching from Scripture--in a way that no other commentary can do.

A compelling exploration of the biblical foundations, contemplative practices, and spiritual path of Jesus himself—from the bestselling author of The Case for Jesus “What happens when a biblical theologian explores classic spirituality? This book. Pitre’s students have asked, Why have we never heard this before? The reader wonders the same.”—Dr. David Fagerberg, author of Liturgical Mysticism The path of following Jesus is an ancient and storied spiritual tradition. Yet many believers are not familiar with the three major forms of prayer and the three stages of spiritual growth that exist to bring them closer to God. In his most personal book yet, Brant Pitre, PhD, draws on the riches of the Bible, the words of Jesus, and the writings of mystics across the centuries to shed light on the mystery—and wonder—of the spiritual life. Starting with the age-old belief that the path of prayer is not only informative but transformative, Dr. Pitre explores • the scriptural roots of the major forms of prayer: vocal prayer, meditation, and contemplation • the purgative, illuminative, and unitive stages of spiritual growth • the spiritual exercises of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving • the Jewish roots of the Lord’s Prayer • Lectio Divina: how to pray with the Bible • seven vices and their seven opposing virtues • the battle of prayer: how to deal with difficulty and distractions • the “dark night of the soul” in the Scriptures Full of sacred truths, contemplative insights, and practical steps, Introduction to the Spiritual Life is a biblical road map of the spiritual landscape that enables us to follow Jesus as our primary guide.

Covering topics ranging from our view of God to our most intimate human relationship to how we treat the world around us and the people in it, the Lord's Prayer is a trustworthy guide for spiritual formation and a compact handbook for holiness. In Living the Lord's Prayer, Father Albert Haase follows the lines of this greatest of all prayers, showing how the ideas have been understood by great people of faith in the past and revealing how they are useful for our spiritual formation today. With Haase's counsel plus the wisdom of this great cloud of witnesses that includes Francis of Assisi, Martin Luther, Thérèse of Lisieux and others, you'll discover how God can use this prayer to shape your very soul. Including true stories and reflection questions for individual consideration or discussion with a spiritual director or small group, Living the Lord's Prayer will teach you to live--rather than simply say--the Lord's Prayer, and thereby to walk in the way of a true disciple.
