Exploring the interplay of love, money and threat in romance fraud, this Element reveals how language is used to persuade, manipulate, and threaten without causing alarm. It provides the first empirical examination of criminal interactions-in-action that exposes and tracks the grooming process and manipulation techniques from first contact with the fraudster, to the transition between romance and finance, and requests for money and intimate images, before morphing into explicit threats and acts of sextortion. Through the use of a range of interactional methodologies and real romance fraud messages, a new type of criminality in the form of 'romance fraud enabled sextortion' is revealed. The insights contained in this work have clear implications for future directions of academic exploration and practitioner efforts to protect the public. Sexual Politics And The Romantic Author written by Sonia Hofkosh and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-06-18 with Literary Criticism categories.
Exploring a range of early nineteenth-century cultural materials from canonical poetry and critical prose to women's magazines and gift-book engravings, Sexual Politics and the Romantic Author offers new perspectives on the role of gender in Romanticism's defining paradigms of authorship. The Romantic author's claim to individual agency is complicated by its articulation in a market system perceived to be impelled in large part by fantasies of female desire - by what women read and write, what they buy and sell, how they look, and where they look for pleasure. These studies in the contested public spaces of literary labour elaborate the fundamental, if invisible, function of the woman as embodiment of authorial ambivalence in writing by Austen, Byron, Coleridge, William Hazlitt, Sarah Hazlitt, Leigh Hunt, Keats, Mary Shelley, William Wordsworth, and others.

Margaret Atwood Crime Fiction Writer written by Jackie Shead and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-13 with Literary Criticism categories.
Exploring how Margaret Atwood’s fiction reimagines the figure of the detective and the nature of crime, Jackie Shead shows how the author radically reworks the crime fiction genre. Shead focuses on Surfacing, Bodily Harm, Alias Grace, The Blind Assassin, Oryx and Crake and selected short fiction, showing the ways in which Atwood’s protagonists are confronted by their own collusion in hegemonic assumptions and thus are motivated to investigate and expose crimes of gender, class and colonialism. Shead begins with a discussion of how Atwood’s treatment of crime fiction’s generic elements, particularly those of the whodunit, clue puzzle and spy thriller, departs from convention. Through discussion of Atwood’s metafictive strategies, Shead also examines Atwood’s techniques for activating her readers as investigators who are offered an educative process parallel to that experienced by some of the author’s protagonists. This book also marks a significant intervention in an ongoing debate among Atwood critics that pits the author’s postmodernism against her ethical and humanistic concerns.

Sex And Love In Porfirian Mexico City written by Michael Matthews and has been published by University Press of Florida this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-05-06 with History categories.
Exploring the sexual lives of the poor and working class in turn-of-the-century Mexico This social history explores the romantic and sexual lives of the poor and working class in Mexico City during the rule of dictator Porfirio Díaz from 1876 to 1911. By analyzing sexually based crime cases and stories in the penny press, Michael Matthews sheds light on everyday struggles, joys, and desires. Matthews argues that lower-class individuals had more liberated sexual lives than their wealthier counterparts, influenced by the city’s growth and cultural changes. In this book, Matthews examines how Mexico City’s expanding infrastructure, increasing factory work, and new leisure and entertainment activities shaped courtship and sexual practices. He delves into the world of tenement buildings and street life to reconstruct days defined by love and desire, romance and rape, seduction and sex work, and promises kept and broken. Matthews connects the sexual culture of the poor to the changes taking place as the Mexican state modernized and underwent tremendous capitalist growth and development. Sex and Love in Porfirian Mexico City provides insights into how social and economic developments shaped cultural norms surrounding honor, marriage, morality, and parental authority during this period. It will spur new reflections on the possible influence of lower-class culture on modern-day romance and sexual values.
