The Mystery of Edwin Drood is the last and unfinished novel by Charles Dickens, written in a detective genre with “Gothic” elements. Dickens wrote only a half of The Mystery of Edwin Drood, so the ending of the crime story is unknown. We can judge to what extent Dickens managed in disorienting the readers and literature historians by those contradictory conclusions that the most qualified researchers came to. It should be noted, that the writer didn’t leave any indications or hints, either in the published parts of the novel or in his manuscripts, about how the novel should end.

Terror to the End is an imaginative re-creation of the last day in Charles Dickens' astonishing life. For the most part, it employs the great writer's own words, taken from his letters and readings. We meet him as he takes a break from his work on The Mystery of Edwin Drood, which would remain only half-finished. Dickens was writing one of its most beautiful sections on this, his last working day. Terror to the End is dramatically punctuated by spine-tingling sections of "Sikes and Nancy" (sometimes called "The Murder of Nancy"), from Oliver Twist. The celebrated writer would die the next day, on the fifth anniversary of the catastrophic Staplehurst Railway Accident, which he and his alleged mistress survived, but which resulted in a permanent trauma that, try as he might, he could never fully escape. Terror to the End spirits the listener back in time to 8 June, 1870, on a lovely day in rural England, at a stately old Georgian mansion on the Gravesend Road, where a not-so-very old man spends a little time alone, remembering, reflecting, and regretting the incomprehensible life he had lived. Charles Dickens was fifty-eight when he died.

"A man is lucky if he is the first love of a woman. A woman is lucky if she is the last love of a man." The Mystery of Edwin Drood is one of the most celebrated books by the Victorian novelist Charles Dickens. It is basically a story of love, jealousy and murder with a detective tone. The beautiful orphan Rosa Bud is engaged to Edwin Drood, yet she is also secretly loved by her music teacher John Jasper, an opium addict who happens to be Edwin's uncle. While Rosa finds Jasper completely unsuitable for her and hates the way he treats her, Jasper informs her that he is foolishly enthralled by her and that he is ready to do anything to realize his dream. Furthermore, another young man named Neville Landless sees Rosa and falls in love with her too. Many events follow as Rosa's lovers go through different quarrels. One morning, the town learns about the mysterious murder of Edwin Drood and Neville Landless is suspected of the crime. The real murderer remains unknown to the readers, however, since Charles Dickens died before writing a conclusion to the book. Numerous attempts were made after Dickens's death to complete the story and different theories were developed to confirm that the true murderer is none but John Jasper.

A tantalizing tour through a true bibliomystery that will “get people talking about one of literature’s greatest enigmas” (KentOnline). When Dickens died on June 9, 1870, he was halfway through writing his last book, The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Since that time, hundreds of academics, fans, authors, and playwrights have presented their own conclusion to this literary puzzler. Step into 150 years of Dickensian speculation to see how our attitudes both to Dickens and his mystifying last work have developed. At first, enterprising authors tried to cash in on an opportunity to finish Dickens’ book. Dogged attempts of early twentieth-century detectives proved Drood to be the greatest mystery of all time. Earnest academics of the mid-century reinvented Dickens as a modernist writer. Today, the glorious irreverence of modern bibliophiles reveals just how far people will go in their quest to find an ending worthy of Dickens. Whether you are a die-hard Drood fan or new to the controversy, Dickens scholar Pete Orford guides readers through the tangled web of theories and counter-theories surrounding this great literary riddle. From novels to websites; musicals to public trials; and academic tomes to erotic fiction, one thing is certain: there is no end to the inventiveness with which we redefine Dickens’ final story, and its enduring mystery.

Oliver Twist, or The Parish Boy's Progress, is author Charles Dickens's second novel, and was first published as a serial 1837-39. The story centres on orphan Oliver Twist, born in a workhouse and sold into apprenticeship with an undertaker. After escaping, Twist travels to London, where he meets "The Artful Dodger," a member of a gang of juvenile pickpockets led by the elderly criminal, Fagin.Oliver Twist is notable for its unromantic portrayal by Dickens of criminals and their sordid lives, as well as for exposing the cruel treatment of the many orphans in London in the mid-19th century.[1] The alternate title, The Parish Boy's Progress, alludes to Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress, as well as the 18th-century caricature series by William Hogarth, A Rake's Progress and A Harlot's Progress. In this early example of the social novel, Dickens satirises the hypocrisies of his time, including child labour, the recruitment of children as criminals, and the presence of street children. The novel may have been inspired by the story of Robert Blincoe, an orphan whose account of working as a child labourer in a cotton mill was widely read in the 1830s. It is likely that Dickens's own youthful experiences contributed as well.Oliver Twist has been the subject of numerous adaptations for various media, including a highly successful musical play, Oliver!, and the multiple Academy Award-winning 1968 motion picture. Disney also put its spin on the novel with the film called Oliver & Company in 1988

Baltimore, 1849. The body of Edgar Allan Poe has been buried in an unmarked grave. The conclusion that Poe was a second-rate writer who died a drunkard is accepted by all. But none of this deters Quentin Clark, an ardent admirer who risks his own career and reputation in a passionate crusade to salvage Poe's. Clark discovers that Poe's last days are riddled with vital unanswered questions. But just when Poe's death looks destined to remain a mystery, Quentin seeks out the one person who can solve this strange case: the real-life model for Poe's brilliant fictional detective character, C. Auguste Dupin. Having successfully recruited the man he believes to have inspired Poe's Dupin, Clarke is confronted by another claiming to be the true model. The two master detectives each seek to prove he is the real 'Dupin' by solving the mystery of Poe's death. Clark finds himself enmeshed in sinister machinations involving international political agents, a female assassin, the corrupt Baltimore slave trade and the lost secrets of Poe's final hours. With his own future hanging in the balance, he must turn master investigator himself to unchain his now imperilled fate from that of Poe.
