Inspired by true events and based on the recorded history of one southern family's struggles and endurance in the Civil War. "No one's going to take Quesinberry land." With those words eighteen year old Oliver Quesinberry joins the Civil War. Leaving his young wife Mahala, his infant son, and family farm to do what he believes is his duty to preserve their land from Northern aggressors. A powerful story of how war forces a boy, a family and a country to question long held beliefs and endure tremendous loss. At the family home, his parents Abigail and Andrew struggle to keep the farm going, caring for five young children, as their grown sons all enlist. Abigail, a strong resourceful woman, the best horsewoman in the area, is determined not to let the war overwhelm her, or her family. When Andrew joins the war effort in the last year, Abigail is left alone to hold the family together. Proving her toughness of spirit and tenacity, she overcomes heartbreak and fear to emerge as the backbone of the family. In September of 1861, at the age of eighteen, Oliver Quesinberry follows his older brothers Isaac and Asa into the Civil War. Volunteering against the wishes of his wife and his parents, he leaves the farm near Hillsville, Virginia that has been in the family for over a hundred years. Confident the war will over within months, he departs with the conviction the Southern Cause is just and the war will be short-lived. Oliver is assigned the position of drummer for 29th Virginia regiment. As the war continues he comes under the command of General James Longstreet, whom General Lee called his "Old War Horse" and later General George Pickett. He is there for the infamous assault by Confederate troops at the center of the Union's lines at Gettysburg, known as "Pickett's Charge." We follow Oliver's regiment from it's inception, to the retreat at Gettysburg, to Cold Harbor and Petersburg, as he becomes disillusioned and struggles to come to terms with the reality and brutality of the war. A family saga which takes the Quesinberry family through the beginning of the Civil War in 1861 to it's conclusion with Lee's surrender at Appomattox in 1865.

The story of Tibet’s notorious master of Buddhist sorcery—translated for the first time into English An essential sacred text of Tibetan Buddhism, The All-Pervading Melodious Drumbeat tells the wondrous story of Ra Lotsawa Dorjé Drak. Though he was canonized as a saint and a fully enlightened buddha, the eleventh-century Ra Lotsawa’s life story presents a darker path than those taken by Siddhartha Gautama and Milarepa. Viewed by some as a murderous villain and by others as a liberator of human suffering, Ra Lotsawa used his formidable power and magical abilities to defeat his rivals, accumulate wealth, and amass a devoted following. His life offers a rare view into the often overlooked roles of magic and sorcery in the Buddhist tradition. Despite this sinister legacy, his fame also rests on an illustrious career as a translator of Buddhist scriptures, through which he helped spark a renaissance of Buddhism in Tibet. This spirited new translation gives readers in English their first opportunity to encounter one of the most colorful and memorable figures in Tibetan Buddhist history. For more than sixty-five years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,500 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.

It's time you realised that your show is a thing of the past. It's dead. A fragment of history. This is the future and I need you to come on board. Their choice? To die onstage - or off it. Beautiful and bonkers - it's the clown show about totalitarianism you never knew you needed. Rhum + Clay's Project Dictator was informed and inspired by conversations with international artists living under authoritarian regimes. It returned for a UK tour after critically-acclaimed runs at New Diorama Theatre in April 2022, and at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2022. Originally commissioned by New Diorama Theatre for its 10th Anniversary Season, Project Dictator was also supported using public funding from Arts Council England. This edition was published to coincide with the UK tour starting in September 2023.

ORIENTA...She is the Dance By: Patricia Badia-Johnson Commentary on Orienta’s Writings: “…She thus breaks the compact silence of working-class women who hardly had the time and energy to write about their life when they had to support their families. Interestingly though, Orienta only writes a brief autobiography, but concentrates the effort of making sense of her life into writing a novel. The novel is a rare female coming-of-age story, the distilled product of facts and imagination, where second-generation struggles to fit between two worlds are codified and finally solved. Her personal ambivalence is developed not only in terms of ethnicity, but also in terms of a special vocation, and job-Orienta was first of all a dancer. As several other immigrants, or children of immigrants, Orienta felt the need to write down her life, pinning it down and offering it to her family as point of stability. As a woman, her writing finds a deeper raison d’etre that is clarified by Helen Barolini in her introduction to The Dream Book, the first anthology of Italian American women’s writing: Orienta is one of those women “who with rare exceptions had never before been authorized either by their external world nor by their internal one to be authors of themselves or of the word.” Ilaria Serra Florida Atlantic University Italian Americana Cultural and Historical Review
