Mason Nash grew up playing baseball. He is pushed by his father to be the best. But he has competition from an equally talented player named Kirk Valentine. When Mason is severely injured during his first year of American Legion ball, his career appears to be at an end. He goes into a depressed state after his return home from the hospital and is content to live the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
