Servants in Charge is a training guide for elders and deacons with a study guide included. Servants in Charge define the roles of elders and deacons and offers practical suggestions for selecting these important leaders. And for servants who find themselves in charge, there are guidelines toward effective and fruitful ministry. Have you ever been in an office or a place of business when someone walked in and asked, "Who's in charge here?"' Can it be that the people who enter your church ask the same question but it is important to realize the answer is not a mystery. In a beautiful parable about His second coming, Jesus made it clear that His servants are in charge. These people are known not so much for their position or power, but for their attitude of true servant hood. In Servants in Charge we find that Dr. Bailey deals with the topics of who a deacon and elder are to be to what their qualifications are from a scriptural basis. He also goes on to explain their biblically based ministries and their spiritual gifts as laid out in the New Testament. He completes this short study with a guide for preparation for them and their election and consecration. A great must have for the church today.

Bring these practical things home and put them to work. Great results have already been seen from individuals who respect Gods Word and value what it can bring to the Board room as well as to the church service. You will not be sorry you invested in this training for you and your ministry team. Rev. Lloyd Tremain, Paradise Community Church of the Nazarene A thorough, practical and much needed Biblically sound treatment. Wish it had been available 20 years ago when I could have use it to a great positive effect Dan Wilderman, Retired Assemblies of God Pastor the order and practical instruction presented will benefit all organizational levels of any Christian Church today. John Steffensen, Radio Host, Christ Today KKXX Radio Chico CA Hopefully this manual will lay the groundwork for pastors and churches to spread the burden and get others involved in the work of the ministry. I once had a pastor that was often unprepared for a service because he was busy helping a parishioner with some needed chore, or church maintenance, or the myriad other duties needed to keep a church going. The result was that the church stayed the same size. Some leave; others enter. But no growth was apparent despite the considerable preaching talents of the pastor. God is apparently making sure he has only the amount of people that he can handle. We learn that the ancient church had some of the same challenges we face today. Acts 6:14 says, Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables. (Read this as doing manual labor.) Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; (the manual labor) but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word. It was even bringing strife to the local body. What did they do? And what was the result? The first thing the apostles did was pick out people they knew to be wise and that had had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and appointed them to do practical ministerial duties (the manual labor). This freed up the apostles so they could minister the Word of God. Wow, Gods way is so simple, and our grandiose plans just waste time and get nothing done. Pastors need to learn from the apostles and appoint over this business so the pastors has more time to do the spiritual work that promotes Gods church. This manual gives a road map for accomplishing the goal of choosing and training people and tips for managing them.

This is a transformational training course designed to give church leaders of all educational levels the basic biblical interpretation, homiletical, public speaking, and leadership skills necessary to fulfill their role as lay leaders. It provides all of the resources necessary to facilitate class discussions in each of the four learning modules, including recommendations for suggested textbooks, power point presentations, and other class room materials to be distributed to the students as study guides. A church can only go as far as its leaders. When the leadership as a whole grows spiritually, the church also grows spiritually. We grow in the Lord as we learn how to accurately handle the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15; NASB). Focused bible study, enhanced with the proper biblical interpretation skills, provides a much deeper and more thorough understanding of Gods word and thus strengthens our relationship with Him. It also provides the foundation for our theological development and biblical worldview.

When are you going to do something about pastoring our people? When he heard that cry, Dr. Melvin Steinbron realized that the centuries-long traditional roles of the clergy and laity - with the clergy doing the pastoring and the laity receiving it - is woefully inadequate to care for all the needs of people in our churches today. So he decided to do something about it. Believing that lay people also have ministry gifts, he, along with a team of church members, initiated a program to enable the laity to share in pastoring the congregation. You, too, can form a lay pastoring ministry which will benefit both pastor and congregation. This book will show you: -how to reach out on a continuing basis to every member of your church -how God gives pastoring gifts to lay people -how to prepare your congregation for a lay pastoring ministry -how to get organized -how to choose lay pastors -how to conduct a 15-hour equipping seminar -seven commitments lay pastors must make -seven common ministry problems and how they can strengthen rather than weaken your program -how to evaluate your program This is much more than a how-to book. It's a how-it's-being-done-and-you-can-do-it-too book. The lengthy track record of scores of lay people doing effective pastoring assures you that lay people can indeed do the pastoring.
