In a world of ceaseless change and relentless competition, the allure of infallibility can be intoxicating. Leaders are often seduced by the prospect of transforming their organizations or nations and leaving an indelible mark on the annals of history. It's not uncommon for some to believe they have a messianic mission, often with catastrophic consequences. This is the paradox of leadership-the fine line between a visionary and a delusional leader-a line defined by the Messiah Complex. The Messiah Complex, a psychological construct where a person believes they are destined to be a savior, is a subtle yet potent influence on many leaders. It often arises in the face of immense challenges or crises and can dangerously distort a leader's perception of reality, making them believe they alone have the answers. This book is a deep dive into understanding this complex and how it infiltrates the minds of leaders, threatening not only their leadership but also the very institutions they lead. This is not a cautionary tale told from afar but an immersive exploration of the psychology, conditions, and consequences of the Messiah Complex in leadership, featuring riveting stories of leaders from all walks of life-business, politics, sports, and entertainment. It dissects the nuances of decision-making, the influences of organizational culture, and the factors that foster or thwart the emergence of this complex. In tackling this subject, we hope to shed light on how leaders, current and aspiring, can avoid the perilous path from vision to delusion. The journey involves cultivating self-awareness, humility, emotional intelligence, and the capacity for continuous learning-core components of effective and sustainable leadership.

The idea for The Messiah Complex emerged from a serious look at faith-based terrorism, which we in the West tend to associate uniquely with Islamists. The fact is that some fundamentalist Christian sects are just as militant, just as ruthless, and present just as great a threat to society. Allow me to demonstrate.

Author's note The idea for The Messiah Complex emerged from a serious look at faith-based terrorism, which we, in the West, tend to associate uniquely with Islamists. The fact is that some fundamentalist Christian sects are just as militant, just as ruthless, and present just as great a threat to society. Allow me to demonstrate. In a small English town, a group of Muslim refugees suddenly go on the rampage. The attack bears similar hallmarks to two incidents in the US days earlier. Dr Patrick Cameron, a medical researcher, is asked to investigate. He spots something odd in the rioters' brain scans but, hours later, it's disappeared. Were these people programmed to turn violent? As a wave of similar attacks spreads to other countries, large crowds, fearing that extremist Islam has now declared all-out war on Christianity, pour onto the streets, calling on their dithering governments to retaliate. Cameron's enquiries reveal something quite different - fundamentalists who believe they have been called by Christ to launch a holy war against Islam. Cameron and his wife, a practising Christian herself, are sent in to destroy the plot before it can reach its horrifying climax. Whatever that may be.

Every human endeavour, from a primary school to the government, needs leadership. The Church believes itself to have a clear understanding of what constitutes Christian leadership, but advocates of leadership have been unable to give a clear, concise and universally accepted definition of the term. Justin Lewis-Anthony argues that our understanding of both secular ('managerial') and religious ('missional') leadership has been fatally compromised by the unconscious functioning of 'mythic' leadership, presented through the medium of the dominant culture of our own day, popular Hollywood film. We describe our leaders as if they should be collaborative, enabling, saints and/or expect them to show our enemies who is boss. We search for the 'great man' who will rescue us from all our problems through redemptive violence - within the Church, we talk about Jesus Christ but we expect John Wayne. This book shows how leadership is, at best, a 'contested concept' and at worst a dangerous, violent and totalitarian heresy.

Freed To Lead written by Rodney Woods and has been published by Monarch Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-01-15 with Religion categories.

This book, and course, is designed to enable Christians to lead confidently based on their identity in Christ. Leadership is tough. Many leaders come to leadership from competence in a different field, without training, and fear that they cannot really lead and will be 'found out' one day. Many leaders are insecure, constantly assessing how they are coming across, and where challenges may arise. Being grounded in Christ is the foundation for all true Christian leadership. This identity-based leadership makes us less driven, reduces the risk of burnout, and enables us to survive personal attacks, use conflict positively and overcome other barriers to effective leadership. Once we operate from this secure base, centred and grounded in Christ, we become less vulnerable to threats to our status, we cease to have anything to hide (because we can afford to be vulnerable) and we are less likely to be blown off course by strong-willed people wanting to push their own agenda.

What kind of a leader is God? Is he a benevolent Santa Claus? Or is he really a narcissist? Is his leadership centered on law enforcement? Or is his priority focused on relationships? Is his interest in nations and systems? Or is he personally alongside the mistreated and oppressed? Is he a leader of armies? Or is he a leader of peace? These and many other questions about God's character and leadership are in the back (if not the front) of many people's minds--questions especially about the God of the Old Testament, who is often painted very differently from the God of the New Testament. Our image of God as leader is highly likely to influence how we act when we are leaders--whether as parents, bosses, teachers, politicians, or leaders of any group, small or large. This book assists us in observing God's leadership through the varied contours of the Old Testament journey and offers human illustrations of leadership, both positive and negative, to help us in our reflections.

When Simon Western's Leadership text first published, it received rave reviews from students, academics and practising leaders and managers all over the world. Written in an accessible style, the book challenges the notion of the individual or hero leader. Western develops the idea of leadership as a distributed process and provides a new framework for understanding and implementing this. Part one deconstructs leadership, providing a critical review and analysis of the key debates within leadership; part two reconstructs leadership, revealing the three dominant discourses of the Controller, Therapist and Messiah, and Eco-leadership discourse. Eco-leadership captures new leadership ideas and practices for twenty-first century organizations. This widely anticipated second edition has been updated in line with recent events and the latest practice and research, with end of chapter questions encouraging reflection on key issues. This insightful and inspiring text draws on Western's diverse consulting experience, combining theory and practice to offer insights into the real challenges facing leaders today. It is ideal reading for MBA and postgraduate students of Leadership, OB and HRM as well as practising managers and leaders. An electronic inspection copy is available for instructors.

The Leadership Capital Index written by Mark Bennister and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-26 with Political Science categories.

The Leadership Capital Index develops a conceptual framework of leadership capital and a diagnostic tool - the Leadership Capital Index (LCI) - to measure and evaluate the fluctuating nature of the leadership capital of leaders. Differing amounts of leadership capital, a combination of skills, relations and reputation, allow leaders to succeed or bring about their failure. This book brings together leading international scholars in the field to engage with the concept of 'leadership capital' and use and apply the LCI to a variety of comparative case studies. The book provides an important, timely, and innovative contribution to the now flourishing academic discipline of political leadership studies. The LCI offers a comprehensive yet parsimonious and easily applicable 10 point matrix to examine leadership authority over time and in different political contexts. In each case, leaders 'spend' and put their 'stock' of authority and support at risk. United States president Lyndon Johnson arm-twisting Congress to put into effect civil rights legislation; Tony Blair taking the United Kingdom into the invasion of Iraq; Angela Merkel committing Germany to a generous reception of refugees: all 'spent capital' to forge public policy they believed in. The volume examines how office-holders acquire, consolidate, risk, and lose such capital, and concentrates predominantly on elected 'chief executives' at the national level, including majoritarian and consensus systems, multiple and singular cases, and also examines some presidential and sub-national cases. The Leadership Capital Index is an exploratory volume, with chapters providing a series of plausibility probes to see how the LCI framework 'performs' as a descriptive and analytical tool.
