"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Rip Van Winkle, and Other Stories" is a volume of essays and short stories by Washington Irving that were first published serially between 1819 and 1820 and was originally collected as "The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent." It includes some of the works for which would establish Irving as one of the preeminent American authors of his day and cement his literary legacy. The most famous of the works in this volume are arguably "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle." The first is the story of Ichabod Crane, a schoolmaster from Connecticut who has moved to the New York countryside settlement of Tarry Town whose secluded glen called Sleepy Hollow is haunted by an infamous spectre, the Headless Horseman. The second story "Rip Van Winkle" tells the tale of a Dutch-American villager living during the time of the American Revolution who mysteriously falls asleep in New York's Catskill Mountains only to discover when he awakes that many years have passed and much has changed. Along with these two classic tales thirty-two other stories and essays are included. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper, includes an introduction by Charles Addison Dawson, and a preface by the author.

the legend of sleepy hollow this special edition book includes summary, Character lists in the story and so on., we hope you enjoy reading this book.Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is one of the few early American short stories that is still widely read today. Most people are probably familiar with the story through the movie and television renditions of the story, the earliest of which was in 1922, a version called The Headless Horseman starring Will Rogers as the main character, Ichabod Crane. In 1949, Disney created its own version, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad with Bing Crosby narrating. This version, with its excellent use of visual symbolism, is fairly accurate, minus its lengthy chase scene. In 1999, Tim Burton's account of Sleepy Hollow, starring Johnny Depp, takes a different, darker approach with more head-chopping and less whimsical storytelling. Even some TV shows, like Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark, Wishbone and Charmed, have taken the basics of the story and adapted it into their own, up-to-date storyline

Washington Irving's classic, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," has been making spines tingle since 1820! Irving tapped into a timeless fear: the prospect of a late night journey shrouded in fog turning suddenly fatal. Our imaginations conjure every conceivable danger, but in one of history's most famous encounters, one Ichabod Crane comes-dare we say it, face to face? -with the "specter known at all the country firesides," the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow. A classic, distinctively American tale, that evokes additional terror as Halloween comes and goes each year, this is the original, 1820 version, as originally found in Irving's collection of short stories entitled "The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent."
