This book is an interdisciplinary study of the relationship between prophecy and politics in South African Pentecostalism. The role and the power of prophecy in enhancing the presence of politicians in the church square are unpacked through historical examples, as well as case studies of contemporary prophets. Solomon Kgatle argues that the influence of prophecy in politics has the potential to weaken the prophetic voice of the church in general and the Pentecostal movement in particular. He proposes a Pentecostal political theology of prophecy. This theology is developed by taking into cognizance the theoretical and theological frameworks of prophetic imagination and pneumatological imagination. In addition, this theology seeks a balance between prophecy and power and prophecy and sovereignty.

Being a follower of Jesus in the evangelical community in America is equated to a posture, practice, and pursuit of triumphalism. Followers of Jesus have misunderstood, maybe even lost, the great value of public and private lament. Lament is incongruent with a theology of continual and ongoing triumphalism. Yet, suffering, loss, and lament permeate Scripture and the human experience. To lament is to cry out to God with our doubts and to bring complaints against God. It is a posture and practice of worship and surrender that helps followers of Jesus wrestle, engage, process, and understand loss, creating a sacred space for the suffering voice to speak. Lament is a practice absent in the church that is recognized and understood as a way of naming grief and suffering, of standing and hoping in the midst of ruins. In the context of San Francisco, the practice and theology of lament in the lives of those who follow Jesus becomes a parody of cultured syllogisms and hyper-vanquishing that forms a community frail to moments of liminality, anxious in seasons of uncertainty, and ill-equipped to deal with the obscurities of everyday life.

We linger because, in the midst of our immediate preoccupation with our felt jeopardy and our hope for relief, our imagination does indeed range beyond the immediate to larger, deeper wonderments. Our free-ranging imagination is not finally or fully contained in the immediacy of our stress, anxiety, and jeopardy. Beyond these demanding immediacies, we have a deep sense that our life is not fully contained in the cause-and-effect reasoning of the Enlightenment that seeks to explain and control. There is more than that and other than that to our life in God's world!

A new translation and commentary on the biblical book of Micah that proposes a convincing new theory of its composition history While the biblical book of Micah is most famous for its images of peace--swords forged into to plowshares, spears turned into pruning hooks--and its passages of prophetic hope, the book is largely composed of prophecies of ruin. The historical Micah, who likely lived in the late eighth century BCE, is the first recorded prophet to predict the fateful fall of Jerusalem, and he also foretells the destruction of the regions of Samaria and Judah, in addition to the more well-known promises of Judah's eventual restoration. Bob Becking translates the Hebrew text anew and illuminates the book's most important elements, including its literary features, political context, and composition history. Drawing on ancient Near Eastern comparative evidence, archaeological notes, and inscriptions, Becking surveys the debates surrounding the book's interpretation and argues that it be regarded as three separate source texts: the early first chapter; a large middle section containing a proto-apocalyptic, alternating prophetic futurology collected and molded by a later redactor; and an added section advocating for legal reform under Josiah.
