The first edition of this book, published in 2009, coincided with the exhibition, A Chronicle: Laying The Foundation of The House, The Erection at the Little Big House Gallery. It celebrated the contributions of the many friends and the family of Glenn Ridler, who made the construction of the Little Big House possible. This edition includes Ridler's story, photographs of the construction, reconstructed model, and finished building as well as an essay by Morgan Ridler, Ph.D., and a recent interview between Dr. Ridler and Glenn Ridler on his development, working process, and newest work. Since the shocking news first broke in 1876 of the Seventh Cavalry’s disastrous defeat at the Little Big Horn, fascination with the battle—and with Lieutenant George Armstrong Custer—has never ceased. Widespread interest in the subject has spawned a vast outpouring of literature, which only increases with time. This two-volume bibliography of Custer literature is the first to be published in some twenty-five years and the most complete ever assembled. Drawing on years of research, Michael O’Keefe has compiled entries for roughly 3,000 books and 7,000 articles and pamphlets. Covering both nonfiction and fiction (but not juvenile literature), the bibliography focuses on events beginning with Custer’s tenure at West Point during the 1850s and ending with the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890. Included within this span are Custer’s experiences in the Civil War and in Texas, the 1873 Yellowstone and 1874 Black Hills expeditions, the Great Sioux War of 1876–77, and the Seventh Cavalry’s pursuit of the Nez Perces in 1877. The literature on Custer, the Battle of the Little Big Horn, and the Seventh Cavalry touches the entire American saga of exploration, conflict, and settlement in the West, including virtually all Plains Indian tribes, the frontier army, railroading, mining, and trading. Hence this bibliography will be a valuable resource for a broad audience of historians, librarians, collectors, and Custer enthusiasts.

Brilliantly innovative artists revolutionizing traditional approaches to art through an exaggerated use of scale Scale is being taken to new extremes in art: from Luke Jerram’s microbiological clear-glass sculptures and Klari Reis’s petri dish paintings, to Lilian Bourgeat’s oversized furniture and stemware and Janet Echelman’s 230-foot-long aerial sculpture that was installed over the Amstel River in Amsterdam. Art lovers are forced to examine these massive or tiny works through a new perspective. Featured here are forty-five cutting-edge artists from around the world who are revolutionizing our approach to scale in art, using crafted or found objects, unusual materials, texture, color, and patina to create a sense of wonder in which we think afresh about function, appearance, beauty, and aesthetics. The book is divided into two sections: Big Art and Small Art. The artists showcased are innovative in their choice of materials, which include plastic bags (Pascale Marthine Tayou) crayons and pencils (Diem Chau), leaves (Lorenzo Manuel Durán), inflatables (Choi Jeong Hwa),and digital media (Yang Yongliang). Stylishly designed and highly accessible, this is the first book to bring together in one volume the very best examples of big and small art of the twenty-first century.

A fascinating exploration into a little-known universe, one that exists right under our noses — if we knew where to look! This is a book about the weird and wonderful insects, worms, parasites, microbes, birds, and bees without whom life as we know it would not possible. What if we got rid of all parasites? Why should we be worried about the Insect Apocalypse? How are spiders inspiring our latest technology? Which photograph spurred a global green movement? Documentary filmmaker Hoe Yeen Nie and historian/artist David Liew lead inquisitive young minds on a fun, fact-filled journey to meet Nature’s engineers, gardeners and recyclers. By learning about their role in the ecosystem, we begin to understand that life on our shared planet depends on the survival and health of these little big heroes. Are you ready to see our Earth with fresh eyes? The Change Makers series of books will build in children a strong sense of inquiry — to arm them with knowledge in S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) to tackle this brave new world of unknowns.
