The name Laura Ingalls Wilder is nearly synonymous with her famous Little House book series. Nearly 60 years have passed since Laura finished her final Little House book, but time has not diminished the love for her and her stories. Before writing her Little House series, Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote articles and weekly columns for a newspaper in Mansfield, Mo. In Laura Ingalls Wilder's Prairie Wisdom, artist Yvonne Pope has collected quotes from these early writings. The quotes convey Laura's homespun wisdom and witty personality that made her beloved by all who have read her work. These heartwarming quotes are paired with Yvonne's own beautifully colorful pen and ink drawings that compliment Laura's whimsical and spirited personality. Laura Ingalls Wilder's Prairie Wisdom is a must for anyone who grew up reading the Little House series but is also for anyone searching for inspiration from a woman who knew a few things about the importance of family, friends, and values. Laura's spirit is revealed through her own words: * We who live in quiet places have the opportunity to become acquainted with ourselves, to think our own thoughts. * No one ever achieved anything from the smallest object to the greatest unless the dream was dreamed first.

Spirit of the Western Frontier Meet Caroline Quiner, the little girl who would grow up to be Laura Ingalls Wilder's mother. It's 1845 in the bustling frontier town of Brookfield, Wisconsin. Five-year-old Caroline lives in a frame house at the edge of town. Caroline's father was lost at sea the year before, and her close-knit family is struggling to cope without him. Each day brings Caroline new responsibilities and new adventures as she strives to help Mother all she can. Little House in Brookfield is the first book in The Caroline Years, an ongoing series about another spirited girl from America's most beloved pioneer family. She’s known best as Caroline Ingalls, Laura’s Ma, in the classic Little House books. Now travel back in time to the 1840’s to the bustling pioneer town of Brookfield, Wisconsin. Caroline, who is just five, lives in a comfortable frame house with her mother, her grandmother, and her five brothers and sisters. Her father was lost at sea the year before, and the family is learning to adjust to life on their own. Caroline knows she must do everything she can to help the little family through this trying time. Little House in Brookfield marks the launch of an on-going series about the adventures of Caroline Quiner, who would grow up to be Ma Ingalls in the Little House books. Written in the classic tradition of the Little House and the Rocky Ridge books, and based on diaries, letters, and other historical papers, these books offer a glimpse into America's adventurous past, as seen through the eyes of another girl from America's beloved frontier family.

Laura Ingalls Wilder And Rose Wilder Lane written by John E. Miller and has been published by University of Missouri Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-12-03 with Literary Criticism categories.

The mother-daughter partnership that produced the Little House books has fascinated scholars and readers alike. Now, John E. Miller, one of America’s leading authorities on Laura Ingalls Wilder and Rose Wilder Lane, combines analyses of both women to explore this collaborative process and shows how their books reflect the authors’ distinctive views of place, time, and culture. Along the way, he addresses the two most controversial issues for Wilder/Lane aficionados: how much did Lane actually contribute to the writing of the Little House books, and what was Wilder’s real attitude toward American Indians. Interpreting these writers in their larger historical and cultural contexts, Miller reconsiders their formidable artistic, political, and literary contributions to American cultural life in the 1930s. He looks at what was happening in 1932—from depression conditions and politics to chain stores and celebrity culture—to shed light on Wilder’s life, and he shows how actual “little houses” established ideas of home that resonated emotionally for both writers. In considering each woman’s ties to history, Miller compares Wilder with Frederick Jackson Turner as a frontier mythmaker and examines Lane’s unpublished history of Missouri in the context of a contemporaneous project, Thomas Hart Benton’s famous Jefferson City mural. He also looks at Wilder’s Missouri Ruralist columns to assess her pre–Little House values and writing skills, and he readdresses her literary treatment of Native Americans. A final chapter shows how Wilder’s and Lane’s conservative political views found expression in their work, separating Lane’s more libertarian bent from Wilder’s focus on writing moralist children’s fiction. These nine thoughtful essays expand the critical discussion on Wilder and Lane beyond the Little House. Miller portrays them as impassioned and dedicated writers who were deeply involved in the historical changes and political challenges of their times—and contends that questions over the books’ authorship do not do justice to either woman’s creative investment in the series. Miller demystifies the aura of nostalgia that often prevents modern readers from seeing Wilder as a real-life woman, and he depicts Lane as a kindred artistic spirit, helping readers better understand mother and daughter as both women and authors.
