Once upon a time in the Kingdom of Sonas, the finest kingdom out of all the kingdoms in the land, everyone was so very happy since King Kindely and his wife Queen Caroline were so very, very good. But one day King Kindely lost his wife and very young daughter, Princess Priscilla. Upon returning to the Kingdom of Sonas, the King's finest ship carrying the Queen and the Princess was swallowed up by the biggest fish anyone had ever seen on the Salty Sea. The King was very sad and for years cried and cried. Soon, the Salty Sea began to rise and with it many, many islands that were as big as mountains too. Also, the fish were found no more. On the land the driest drought anyone had ever experience was taking the only fresh water left leaving the people worrying that one day it would all be gone and they would perish. But one day the King cried his last tear and came to his senses. He believed if the fish could be found the Queen and Princess could be rescued from its belly and the Kingdom of Sonas would once again be the happiest kingdom in all the lands. He sent out a plea asking all to help. And the story begins when the plea reaches the hands of a son of a simple farmer. The son reads the plea and decides to help The Lonely King.

I managed to help everyone in Litya. I even made a friend. Squall is stubborn, but I like him. I'm happier than I should be about him escorting me to the coast so I can board a ship and cross the Great Sea.I'm one step closer to the Cloud. But we get caught in a fluke desert storm that blows us far off course, and we become a hunter's target. I even get separated from Squall. When I'm lost and alone, I meet an unassuming king. He's a mere boy who was cast away by his people. I shouldn't meddle and risk making things worse for him, but he needs help as much as I do. And I don't know how to mind my own business.

As we retrace the life of the king and emperor of Germany Henry IV of Franconia, the king of Canossa, what stands out more than any other is solitude. Loneliness as a child, orphaned of his father at just six years of age; loneliness as a teenager, kidnapped by the nobles at 11 and raised away from his mother, loved and good, but perhaps not quite up to the difficult task of ruler; loneliness as a young king, committed to carrying out a difficult political project against the great men of the kingdom and in favor of new social classes emerging in the cities, abandoned by everyone and constantly fighting against strong enemy coalitions. Finally, the solitude of an old ruler betrayed by his children and taken prisoner. Next to this, however, there are also unyielding courage and unwavering faith in his sacred role of king "by divine right" which brings to the forefront a dramatically complex and sometimes contradictory figure, but, in a certain sense, more human and closer than what has traditionally passed on to us by historical facts. In a century that marked the end of a world and the beginning of a new era, Henry IV embodied both attributes . A king in a sense to be rediscovered, whose sources outline his work in a sometimes highly contradictory way and who is usually only remembered for the penance of Canossa. An intriguing figure to be reinterpreted in a way that allows a glimpse of the man beneath the king, so far away in time to appear barely more than a static figure of a now faded fresco.

Maybelle Lane is looking for her father, but on the road to Nashville she finds so much more: courage, brains, heart--and true friends. Eleven-year-old Maybelle Lane collects sounds. She records the Louisiana crickets chirping, Momma strumming her guitar, their broken trailer door squeaking. But the crown jewel of her collection is a sound she didn't collect herself: an old recording of her daddy's warm-sunshine laugh, saved on an old phone's voicemail. It's the only thing she has of his, and the only thing she knows about him. Until the day she hears that laugh--his laugh--pouring out of the car radio. Going against Momma's wishes, Maybelle starts listening to her radio DJ daddy's new show, drinking in every word like a plant leaning toward the sun. When he announces he'll be the judge of a singing contest in Nashville, she signs up. What better way to meet than to stand before him and sing with all her heart? But the road to Nashville is bumpy. Her starch-stiff neighbor Mrs. Boggs offers to drive her in her RV. And a bully of a boy from the trailer park hitches a ride, too. These are not the people May would have chosen to help her, but it turns out they're searching for things as well. And the journey will mold them into the best kind of family--the kind you choose for yourself.

*** THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER *** 'Destined to be a classic' Nouriel Roubini 'Brilliant, powerful and hopeful' Philippa Perry 'Explosive, timely and urgent' Daily Telegraph Even before a global pandemic introduced us to terms like social distancing, loneliness was already becoming the defining condition of the twenty-first century. But it's also one we have the power to reverse. Combining a decade of research with first-hand reporting, Noreena Hertz takes us from a 'how to communicate in real life' class for smartphone-addicted university students to bouncy castles at Belgian far-right gatherings, from paying for cuddles in the U.S. to nursing home residents knitting bonnets for their robot caregivers in Japan. The Lonely Century explores how our increasing dependence on technology, radical changes to the workplace and decades of policies that have placed self-interest above the collective good are damaging our communities and making us more isolated than ever before. With bold solutions for us as individuals as well as for businesses and governments, Noreena Hertz offers a hopeful and empowering vision for ow to heal our fractured world and come together again. 'If we could issue a reading list to 10 Downing Street, I'd put this book near the top.' Guardian 'Causing a deserved stir' Financial Times 'Revealing, empathetic and timely' Jonathan Freedland 'Read it, then pass it onto a friend.' Charlie Brooker
