Pedagogical theory arising from general education has long dominated discourse in both research and policy-making in education: this is also evident in vocational studies. Today, both locally and internationally, the complex processes of vocational pedagogy play a central role in the discussions. Work-based learning, the master-apprenticeship learning tradition, and the pedagogy of vocations and professions are all important concepts in on-going education policy debates. Contradictions between different learning traditions are clearly evident in vocational pedagogy: learning according to the workshop traditions or learning in the classroom, vocational theory and general theory, learning at school and learning in a work situation. This book is based on research in Norway and examines problems of teaching and learning in relation to vocational curricula of upper secondary schooling, apprentices' experiences and masters thesis-writing in the field of vocational pedagogy. The book also explores the question of vocational education and gender, today and in the past.

This research book is about the transfer of training. The main theme of this research is how the training participants perceived training and how they are practicing in their real workplace. The qualitative method was implied where class observations and in-depth interviews were conducted to explore the perceptions and practices of the training participants along with the coping strategies on the challenges they have faced. The findings were that adequate time was not provided for the preparation, though some planning was done. The practice of the training in both the skills and knowledge was seen, where practice of skill is more applied. Some of the knowledge and skills were not practiced. Assessment was done by using both the formative and summative evaluation tools. Finally, this study concluded that there is the need of supervisors and guidance in practicing the skills and knowledge in their workplace.

Vocational Education In The Nordic Countries written by Christian Jørgensen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-15 with Education categories.

Vocational Education in the Nordic Countries: Learning from Diversity is the second of two books that disseminates new and systematic knowledge on the strengths and weaknesses of the different models of vocational education and training (VET) in four Nordic countries. Vocational education in Europe has resisted standardisation to a higher degree than other fields of education, and during the last decade, there has been a growth in international, comparative VET research. While the Nordic countries provide an ideal case for comparative education studies, the literature in English on the Nordic VET systems is at present very limited. This book provides thorough examinations of VET in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. Each section examines the current challenges for VET, compares how these challenges are managed, and explores recent reforms and institutional innovations. Contributors also analyse institutions and policies at the national level and include comparative studies of two occupations at the micro-level in the four countries. The book explores what can be learned from the diversity of the VET systems in the Nordic countries, which otherwise have many similarities and share a common heritage in education policy. This volume will help strengthen the knowledge base required for transnational policy learning, and for developing vocational education internationally for the future. As a result, the book will be of interest to researchers, academics and postgraduate students involved in the study of vocational education, educational studies and educational policy, as well as policy makers.

Myths And Brands In Vocational Education written by Anja Heikkinen and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-18 with History categories.

This book discusses whether certain approaches to (vocational) education have become mythicized and branded, and the reasons for and consequences of this commodification. Additionally, the book also investigates how researchers are contributing to mythicizing and branding in education. Although transnational and comparative studies are increasingly taking into account historical and cultural ideas, is this a result of the exploitation of historical and cultural research for industrial purposes and education export? Educational brands should attract global customers and advertise countries as smart environments for global investments.

A new political order is transforming the nature of work in advanced industrialised countries. What does this mean for the nexus of education and work? How does it affect the idea of vocation, the reality of lifelong learning, the concept of employability, and the future of vocational education and training? This volume analyses the foundations of this transformation featuring globalisation and individualisation. It offers an analysis of the shifting terrain of governance and policy and their impact on the field of vocational education. With contributions from scholars located in Europe as well as in Australia and the USA, it provides an understanding of a number of important educational policy topics, including changing social and cultural conditions of labour, migration, an aging populace and the spread of cross-national discourses. Additional chapters tackle the concepts of «employability», «gender», «earning» and «lifelong learning» and examine their relation to policies, practices, theory and research in vocational education.
