Who is the Mahdi of Islam? According to both Sunni and Shi'i Muslims, the "guided one" will rise during the end times to conquer all nations. With Jesus Christ, he will bring an end to aggression and injustice, and will establish the Kingdom of God on earth. However, Sunnis and Shi'is disagree about the identity of the Mahdi. According to Shi'is, the Mahdi - an extraordinary human being who will perform extraordinary miracles - is Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Husayni. He was born over a thousand years ago, and is still alive on this earth, but living in occultation, and will reappear during the end times. For Sunnis, however, the Mahdi will be an ordinary and mediocre man by the name of Muhammad b. 'Abd Allah al-Hasani. In "Imam al-Mahdi: The Twelfth Khalifah in the Sahih Sunni Ahadith", author Toyib Olawuyi argues that the identification of the awaited Mahdi with Muhammad b. 'Abd Allah al-Hasani is not established in any reliable Sunni or Shi'i hadith, but is based on only a few unreliable Sunni reports. By contrast, Olawuyi demonstrates, Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Husayni is confirmed as the Mahdi in both authentic and authoritative Shi'i and Sunni sources. "Imam al-Mahdi" is a carefully balanced work of scholarship that will both inform and challenge the views of many Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

The history of religion demonstrates that all Prophets have suffered vehement opposition. Like all the prophets of God, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, the Promised Messiah and Mahdi was also opposed. Throughout his life, Maulvi Muhammad Husain of Batala, a staunch opponent, spared no opportunity to harm and malign the Promised Messiah. When all else failed, he began to submit false reports to the British government, alleging that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was a rebel of the state and believed in the advent of a bloodthirsty, violent Mahdi, who would force all non-Muslims to Islam. It was due to these false reports that the author wrote a brief but eloquent treatise outlining his true beliefs regarding the advent of the Promised Mahdi in Islam. In this book, the author explains that the divinely appointed reformer and Mahdi to appear in the latter days would bring a message of peace and conquer the world with love; not through violence and bloodshed. He also reassures the government of his loyalty to the state and exposes the hypocrisy of Maulvi Muhammad Husain and the falsity of his reports to the government.

This book is a humble attempt by the author to shine the light of Al-Islaam, the Holy Qur'an and the language of Imam W. Deen Mohammed on the 19th Chapter of the Book of Revelations. It is my sincere belief that the Holy Scriptures are interconnected and that the Holy Qur'an is the last chapter and the key to understanding all scriptures. This book is dedicated to all the people who have struggle for freedom throughout the ages, but it is especially dedicated to the five greatest African American men born in North America in my opinion (1.) Imam W. Deen Mohammed, (2.) Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., (3.) Mr. Elijah Muhammad, (4.) Mr. Abdul Malik Shabazz also known as Malcolm X, and finally Mr. Fredrick Douglas. I believe the vision seen by Dr. King in his I have a dream speech will only be fulfilled in the religion of Al Islaam (Islam). The information given in this book on the Imam (Leader) Al Mahdi (The one who Guides) is only given to enlighten and is not meant to cause confusion. We know that belief in the Mahdi is not an article of faith and therefore is not Fard (obligatory) for Muslims. This book is only a reflection of the conclusions that I have come to over my studies during my time as a Muslim and I take responsibility for any errors that may appear in this publication. I use the spelling Imaam for Imam, Islaam for Islam in many instances because I believe it gives the novice a better sense of how the words should be pronounced. Your Humble Servant, Hassan A. Shabazz

In the 9th century, a secret sect of the Ismā‘īlīs -- known in the Middle Ages under the name of Fatimids -- arose to play a prominent role in the history of the Near East. Their supreme head today is the Agha Khan. In this mesmerising book, Heinz Halm describes the early history of the Fatimids, from the founding and spread of the secret society to the rise of the caliphal dynasty to power in North Africa and the founding of Cairo, their capital.

*Includes pictures *Explains the history of Islam, the concept of the Mahdi, and how this belief affects today's Middle East *Includes online resources, footnotes, and a bibliography for further reading *Includes a table of contents There are few things which the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, for many the leader of the world's Shi'a community, and the leadership of al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of the Sunni terrorist organization Al-Qaida agree upon. One of the few points that they can agree upon in the midst of their war of mutual annihilation is that the Apocalypse is coming and that they are the soldiers of its harbinger and messiah: the Mahdi. Across the Islamic world, the figure of the Mahdi has appeared with increasing prevalence in the last few decades: the "Mahdi Army" patrols Shiite neighborhoods of Baghdad, thousands of Mahdi impersonators rot in Iranian prisons, the feared Boko Haram army aims to bring about the arrival of the Mahdi in Nigeria, and the leader of the Islamic State renamed himself "Caliph Abdullah Ibrahim Ibn Awaad Ibn Ibrahim Ibn Ali Ibn Muhammad of Qurasysh Al-Baghdadi of the tribe of the prophet Muhammad" allowing him to fulfill the prophecy that the Mahdi would be named "Abdullah" and "ibn Muhammad." The Shi'as have always had a deep emotional connection to the belief in the coming of the Mahdi. In fact, most Shi'a believe that he has already come to earth in the form of their hidden ("occulted") Twelfth Imam who has watched over humanity for centuries, and as the minority group within Islam, they have often lived in lands dominated by Sunnis and typically view the Sunni rulers as corrupt and having turned their backs on true Islam. At the same time, the Mahdi has played a crucial role among Sunnis, and the contemporary obsession with the Mahdi, the "Mahdaviat," led to the rise of apocalyptic Sunni groups like ISIS. Sunnis, who are often in power in Islamic lands, have been less comfortable with the fundamental assumption of the fallen states of the leadership. However, since the fall of the last Caliphate (the Ottoman Empire in 1924), and the domination of most of the Islamic world by European colonial powers and then obviously corrupt and often secular strongmen has made many Sunnis turn away from their leadership and look to the Mahdi for inspiration. Outside of formal Islamic authorities, there has also been a long tradition of Mahdi claimants who seek to rise up and overthrow the authorities of their day and establish a truly sacred Muslim community on earth. Throughout it all, there are certain shared characteristics that all Mahdi myths and claimants hold. The first is an assumption that true purity of faith has been lost in modern Islam and that the authorities have turned their back on Islam (even if they still claim to be Muslims). Out of this time of absolute darkness, the Mahdi - a mortal man - will emerge to restore political power and religious purity to the land. With his followers, they will be driven back by the forces of "Rome" (usually interpreted to be the West but often thought today to be the United States, secular Turkey, Israel or the Vatican). Finally, there will be a great battle, perhaps at a place in Syria called Dabiq. The Mahdi will be joined by Jesus (who is an important figure in Islam), and together they will rule over the world. This is connected to Judgment Day, as all Muslims will be tried in this period of strife. The Mahdi: The History of the Prophesized Figure Muslims Believe Will Redeem Islam and Bring About the End Times looks at the history behind the beliefs and how they have shaped Islam over the centuries. Along with pictures depicting important people, places, and events, you will learn about the Mahdi like never before, in no time at all.

Techno-Thriller Meets the Middle East From IPPY gold medal winner Robert Cook comes the fourth installment in the Cooch series. With all the classic elements of a spy thriller—intrigue, violence, sex—The Mahdi is a narrative geopolitical battlefield where Islamic and Jewish ideologies clash, seen through the lens of a modern, liberal Muslim. Raised in a blend of Bedouin tradition and Western education,Alex Cuchulain, Cooch, is a former US Marine, CIA operator, and entrepreneur. Partnered with Dr. Caitlin O’Connor, the self-described “smartest person in the world,” they make an unlikely yet formidable duo. When Alex takes on a mission to reclaim stolen Bedouin land, he finds himself imprisoned and branded a criminal. Meanwhile, Caitlin faces her own dangers, becoming the target of an extremist plot. But the rules of warfare change forever when Caitlin condenses an electromagnetic pulse into shootable ammunition and deploys an AI chatbot–quantum computer that can use the internet to control secure Israeli communications and provide strategic intel. As tensions escalate, some begin to believe that Alex may actually be the Mahdi, the prophesied redeemer of Islam. But can he shoulder that mantle? And can technology and enlightened thinking prevail over entrenched dogma?

The Mahdi, "the guided one", has been popularly awaited throughout Islamic history as a just and pious leader who would be extremely successful during his reign over the Muslims. This study, based on the author's original PhD thesis written in 1991, aims to investigate the concept of the Mahdi among Ahl al-Sunna according to the methodology of the traditionists. It includes the analysis of over one hundred narrations, mostly found in the Kitab al-Fitan, by Nuʿaim b. Ḥammād (which, in 1991 was only available in manuscript form). Both Sunni and Shi'a literature throng with extensive descriptions of this Mahdi, the concept of which has prompted a great number of people to claim this title throughout the fourteen centuries of Islam, in different parts of the Muslim lands. The attack on the Grand Mosque in Mecca, led by a Mahdi claimant, during the year 1980 rekindled the debate on the authenticity of this belief. The scholars of Islam were divided on this issue: some rejected the idea completely by labelling all those Aḥādīth that speak of the Mahdi as spurious, while others supported this belief vehemently but rejected the claimant on the grounds that he did not fulfil the criterion laid down in the texts for the true Mahdi. The incident also moved the writer of these lines as well to seek the oldest Sunni source on the Mahdi. About the Author: Shaykh Dr Suhaib Hasan comes from a family of prestigious scholars. His father Shaykh AbdulGhaffar Hasan remained teacher of Hadith in the Islamic University of Medina for many years and a number of leading scholars around the world benefited from him. Shaykh Suhaib Hasan's great grandfather Shaykh AbdulJabbar Umarpuri was among the students of Shaykh Nazir Hussain Dehlwi, the leading scholar of Hadith of his era. Shaykh Suhaib Hasan himself graduated from the Islamic University of Medina and had the privilege of studying with many great scholars of his era such as Hafiz Muhammad Gondalwi, Shaykh AbdulAziz ibn Baz, Shaykh Nasirudin Albani, Shaykh Ameen Shanqiti, Shaykh Abu Bakr Al-Jazairi, Shaykh Ibrahim Shaqrah, Shaykh AbdulMuhsin Abbad and many others. The shaykh moved to East Africa after graduating and taught for a decade before resettling in Britain were he currently resides; he has recognised as a leading scholar of Markaz Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith, the founder of Masjid Tawheed in Leyton, London, and he is currently the chairman of the Sharia Council in Leyton, London.
