An adult Gay novel of Ancient Rome. When Marcus, a young magistrate, spies a male slave being sexually abused by a slave trader in broad daylight, his better nature forces him to interfere. He ends up by buying Lucian, a handsome youth recently arrived from Britannia. Now the dark-haired, blue-eyed Lucian must strive to fit into a proper Roman household. He must meet the exacting demands of his exasperating new master. And somehow, he must try to regain his freedom. Lucian struggles to resist Marcus' sexual needs. In the midst of all this, events in Rome interfere. The times are uncertain. The powerful Prefect, Sejanus, controls Rome. Emperor Tiberius, in retirement on the Isle of Capri, knows little of what is actually happening, that Sejanus wishes to seize ultimate power for himself. And Marcus, appointed by Sejanus is in the middle of things. Increasingly, he finds himself in difficult predicaments. And increasingly, he relies upon the reluctant Lucian to help him. Lucian, despite himself, is falling in love with the arrogant Marcus, but is the reverse true? Does Marcus love him? And if so, can the master and his slave ever meet as true equals? Can they find peace in such troubled times? This is a torrid tale of Gay love and passionate explicit sex, set against actual violent times of an ancient Rome going through a civil war. Adult Content. Adult Gay Erotica.

A new edition of the bestselling classic – published with a special introduction to mark its 10th anniversary This pioneering account sets out to understand the structure of the human brain – the place where mind meets matter. Until recently, the left hemisphere of our brain has been seen as the ‘rational’ side, the superior partner to the right. But is this distinction true? Drawing on a vast body of experimental research, Iain McGilchrist argues while our left brain makes for a wonderful servant, it is a very poor master. As he shows, it is the right side which is the more reliable and insightful. Without it, our world would be mechanistic – stripped of depth, colour and value.

Dear Master written by Randall M. Miller and has been published by University of Georgia Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990-10-01 with History categories.

"Dear Master" is a rare firsthand look at the values, self-perception, and private life of the black American slave. The fullest known record left by an American slave family, this collection of more than two hundred letters--including seven discovered since the book's original appearance--reveals the relationship of two generations of the Skipwith family with the Virginia planter John Hartwell Cocke. The letters, dating from 1834 to 1865, fall into two groups. The first were written by Peyton Skipwith and his children from Liberia, where they settled after being freed in 1833 by Cocke, a devout Christian and enlightened slaveholder. The letters, which tell of harsh frontier life, reveal the American values the Skipwiths took with them to Africa, and express their faith in Liberia's future and pride in their accomplishments. The second group of letters, written by George Skipwith and his daughter Lucy, originate from Cocke's Alabama plantation, an experimental work community to which Cocke sent his most talented, responsible slaves to prepare them for the moral and educational challenges of emancipation. George, a "privileged bondsman," was a slave driver. His letters about the management of the plantation include reports on the slaves' conduct and any disciplinary actions he took. Readers can sense George's pride in his work and also his ambivalence toward his role as leader in the slave hierarchy. Lucy, Cocke's chief domestic slave, was the plantation nurse and teacher. Her letters, filled with details about spiritual, familial, and health matters, also display her skill at exploiting her master's trust and her uncommon boldness, for she spoke against whites to her master when she felt they hampered his slaves' education. "Dear Master" affirms that these slaves and former slaves were not simply victims; they were actors in a complex human drama. The letters imply trust and affection between master and slave, but there were other motives as well for the letter-writing. The Liberian Skipwiths needed American-made supplies; moreover, the whole family may have viewed their relationship with Cocke as a chance to help free other slaves. In his new preface, Miller reevaluates his book in light of changes in the historiography of American slavery over the past decade.

Marse: A Psychological Portrait of the Southern Slave Masterand His Legacy of White Supremacy focuses on the white men who composed the antebellum southern planter class in the period of 1830-1861. This book is a psychological autopsy of the minds and behaviors of enslavers that helps explain the enduring roots of white supremacy and the hidden wound of racist slavery that continues to affect all Americans today. Marse details and illustrates examples of the psychological mechanisms by which southern slave masters justified owning another human being as property and how they formed a society in which enslavement was morally acceptable. Kirkpatrick uses forensic psychology to analyze the personality formation, defense mechanisms, and psychopathologies of slave masters. Their delusional beliefs and assumptions about Black Africans extended to a forceful cohort of white slaveholding women, as well as how they twisted Christianity to promote slavery as a positive good. He examines the masters’ stresses and fears, and how they coped by developing psychologically fatal, slavery-specific defense mechanisms. Utilizing sources such as the vast treasure trove of slavery historiography, diaries, letters, autobiographies, and sermons, Marse describes the ways in which slaveholders created a delusional worldview that sanctioned cruel instruments of punishment and implemented laws and social policies of domination used to rob Blacks of their human rights. The seismic shift in race relations our nation is experiencing right now make this book timely, as it will advance our understanding of the South’s self-defeating romance with racist slavery and its latent and chronic effects. The parallels between the psychology of antebellum slaveholding and today’s racism are palpable.

Master Of The Mountain written by Henry Wiencek and has been published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-16 with History categories.

Is there anything new to say about Thomas Jefferson and slavery? The answer is a resounding yes. Master of the Mountain, Henry Wiencek's eloquent, persuasive book—based on new information coming from archaeological work at Monticello and on hitherto overlooked or disregarded evidence in Jefferson's papers—opens up a huge, poorly understood dimension of Jefferson's world. We must, Wiencek suggests, follow the money. So far, historians have offered only easy irony or paradox to explain this extraordinary Founding Father who was an emancipationist in his youth and then recoiled from his own inspiring rhetoric and equivocated about slavery; who enjoyed his renown as a revolutionary leader yet kept some of his own children as slaves. But Wiencek's Jefferson is a man of business and public affairs who makes a success of his debt-ridden plantation thanks to what he calls the "silent profits" gained from his slaves—and thanks to a skewed moral universe that he and thousands of others readily inhabited. We see Jefferson taking out a slave-equity line of credit with a Dutch bank to finance the building of Monticello and deftly creating smoke screens when visitors are dismayed by his apparent endorsement of a system they thought he'd vowed to overturn. It is not a pretty story. Slave boys are whipped to make them work in the nail factory at Monticello that pays Jefferson's grocery bills. Parents are divided from children—in his ledgers they are recast as money—while he composes theories that obscure the dynamics of what some of his friends call "a vile commerce." Many people of Jefferson's time saw a catastrophe coming and tried to stop it, but not Jefferson. The pursuit of happiness had been badly distorted, and an oligarchy was getting very rich. Is this the quintessential American story?

Miria lives in a decadent, dangerous world we can scarcely imagine...The world of the Darwellian Collapse.Over one hundred years in the future, resources have dwindled, and the human species along with it. Opportunistic men have seized absolute power, and the concept of equality is a distant memory. Decadence and luxury are the pursuits of the privileged, while those of the lower class eke out lives more reminiscent of medieval times, rather than that of an advanced civilization. The privileged spend their days in pursuits of the flesh, where no sensual act is too bizarre, no treatment of those beneath them too cruel. Human life means nothing to these would-be gods.It is into this world that nineteen year old Miria is thrust, when she is abducted from her bed by men who see her as chattel. But when she meets the strong and mysterious Ronan, a man who commands himself as he does others, she encounters both wonders and evils she could not have imagined before. While this is a BDSM romance, the world depicted herein is a very dark and dangerous place. The non-privileged are treated as if they do not matter, and are used for the amusement of the wealthy. Nothing is off-limits. Should you choose to read this story, you will encounter graphic scenes that may shock you, or even upset you. Please be advised that this story is for mature adults who can handle scenes of decadence and violence. It is not for the faint of heart.
