Suppose one window were opened so there was 1 square foot of Open window. The transmission loss through an Opening like this is zero, hence 7= 1 and ta= 1. In other words, an Opening of 1 square foot would transmit four times the sound energy that is transmitted by the entire structure with closed windows.
