Dr. Tiffany Chow offers knowledge and hope for an illness where there is, as yet, no cure. “This book is a summary of what I’ve learned through my research or from my colleagues about prevention and management of dementia,” says the empathetic doctor. “Even where there is a family history of Alzheimer’s disease, people at risk can do things to prevent its onset or progression.” Through her grandmother Ah Quan, born in 1906 in Hawaii of Chinese ancestry, Chow has a genetic legacy of Alzheimer’s disease. Comparing her life with her grandmother’s, she probes what she and other women can do to mitigate the impact of genetics through nutrition, exercise, and through the concepts of cerebral reserve and brain plasticity. But it is in her front-line role managing the suffering caused by dementia and aiding caregivers where Chow’s compassionate voice is most inspiring. The Memory Clinic is instructive and reassuring, and is a fascinating guide through the mysterious twists of the brain.

Diagnosis And Management Of Dementia written by Gordon K. Wilcock and has been published by Oxford : Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Medical categories.

Organised services for those with memory disorders are growing. This growth is stimulated by an increase in the number of people with memory problems and by an increased appreciation of the complexity of the needs of such patients. Further growth is likely, especially now that we appear to have crossed the threshold of effective treatment for many patients with dementia. With these advances has come the recognition of the necessity for an interdisciplinary approach to management. Diagnosis and Management of Dementia: A Manual for Memory Disorders Teams is an edited volume covering all aspects of the operation of a memory disorders team. It is aimed at all those working in the dementia or memory disorders team, whether in a clinic or a community setting. The book is divided into three sections. Section one takes the reader through the practical details of setting up and organising a clinic, from timetabling, through managing information, to the assessments needed and the opportunities such a service provides. Section two deals with the diagnostic process; and section three addresses management issues, from carer support, pharmacological and physiological interventions, through managing common problems, to the role of the primary care physician. An Appendix contains the results of a survey to the memory disorder services. This survey provides the reader with examples of other services and demonstrates the wide variation in how these services operate. The Manual is unique in that it combines up to date thinking on diagnosis and management with practical and helpful ideas on how to run a dementia or memory disorders service.

"Is your memory normal? To answer that question we need to start with a different question: What is normal memory? In Step 1 we will learn about the problems that are part of normal memory. One thing that makes memory loss tricky, however, is that the difference between normal and abnormal memory isn't necessarily the type of problems that occur but rather the frequency and severity of those problems. Nonetheless, in order for us to begin to help you know if your memory is normal or not, we need to first tell you about the memory errors that can happen to anyone of any age and then let you know what changes occur to memory as we get older"--
