Melissa Payne, bestselling author of The Secrets of Lost Stones, returns with another haunting and hopeful novel about redemption, the power of memory, and a woman's will to reclaim her life. My name is Claire. I'm thirty-six years old. It's September. I know what I'm doing and why I am here...for now. Ten years ago, Claire Hines lost her unborn child--and her short-term memory--following a heartrending tragedy. With notebooks, calendars, to-do lists, fractured pieces of the past, and her father's support, Claire makes it through each day, hour by hour, with relative confidence. She also has a close-knit community of friends in the remote Alaskan town where she teaches guitar to the local children. It's there, in the reminders. As determined as Claire is to regain all that's disappeared, she'd prefer to live without some memories of her before life--especially those of her mother, Alice, who abandoned her, and Tate, the ex-boyfriend who broke her heart. But when Alice and Tate return from the past, there'll be so much more for Claire to relive. And to discover for the very first time. Through healing, forgiveness, and second chances, Claire may realize that what's most important might not be re-creating the person she was, but embracing the possibilities of being the person she is.

I'm not crazy. My mother may have died with everyone believing she was insane, but I refuse to accept that as my fate. Even if I am recalling memories about a life I never lived. A life that includes the mysterious James-a guy I've only just met, but feel as if I've known all my life. The memories are coming hard and fast, and I'm falling down a rabbit hole with consequences that far exceed anything I could have ever imagined. And now, someone is trying to kill me. Someone from my past who knows about my visions and is looking for something he believes I took from him. All I have to do is figure out how these memories relate to the present and maybe I'll survive to live another day. Maybe...

Now The Major Motion Picture DRIFT Starring Cynthia Erivo and Alia Shawkat • A New York Times Notable Book • Hypnotic in its depiction of physical and spiritual hungers, this is a novel about ruin, faith, and the devastating memories that can destroy and redeem us. “Immensely powerful. . . . Beautifully written. . . . Jacqueline is a mesmerizing heroine.” —The Boston Globe In the aftermath of Charles Taylor’s fallen regime, a young Liberian woman named Jacqueline has fled to the Aegean island of Santorini. She lives in a cave accessible only at low tide. During the day, she offers massages to tourists, battling her hunger one or two euros at a time. Her pressing physical needs provide a deeper relief, obliterating her memories of unspeakable violence. But slowly, the specters of her former life resurface: her adoring younger sister; her unshakably proper mother; her father, who believed in his president; her journalist lover, who knew that Taylor would be overthrown. Now Jacqueline must face the ghosts that haunt her—or tip into full-blown madness.

Drift written by Rachel Maddow and has been published by Crown this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-03-27 with Political Science categories.

The #1 New York Times bestseller that charts America’s dangerous drift into a state of perpetual war. Written with bracing wit and intelligence, Rachel Maddow's Drift argues that we've drifted away from America's original ideals and become a nation weirdly at peace with perpetual war. To understand how we've arrived at such a dangerous place, Maddow takes us from the Vietnam War to today's war in Afghanistan, along the way exploring Reagan's radical presidency, the disturbing rise of executive authority, the gradual outsourcing of our war-making capabilities to private companies, the plummeting percentage of American families whose children fight our constant wars for us, and even the changing fortunes of G.I. Joe. Ultimately, she shows us just how much we stand to lose by allowing the scope of American military power to overpower our political discourse. Sensible yet provocative, dead serious yet seriously funny, Drift reinvigorates a "loud and jangly" political debate about our vast and confounding national security state.

Foundations of Human Memory provides an introduction to the scientific study of human memory with an emphasis on both the major theories of memory and the laboratory studies that have been used to test those theories and inspire their further development. Written with the undergraduate student in mind, the text is organized around the major empirical paradigms used to study memory in the laboratory and the theories used to explain data obtained using those paradigms.

The investigation of new memory schemes, neural networks, computer systems and many other improved electronic devices is very important for future generation's electronic circuits and for their widespread application in all the areas of industry. In this aspect the analysis of new efficient and advanced electronic elements and circuits is an essential field of the highly developed electrical and electronic engineering. The resistance-switching phenomenon, observed in many amorphous oxides has been investigated since 1970 and it is a promising technology for constructing new electronic memories. It has been established that such oxide materials have the ability for changing their conductance in accordance to the applied voltage and memorizing their state for a long-time interval. Similar behaviour has been predicted for the memristor element by Leon Chua in 1971. The memristor is proposed in accordance to symmetry considerations and the relationships between the four basic electric quantities - electric current i, voltage v, charge q and magnetic flux Ψ. The memristor is an essential passive one-port element together with the resistor, inductor, and capacitor. The Williams HP research group has made a link between resistive switching devices, and the memristor proposed by Chua. A number of scientific papers related to memristors and memristor devices have been issued and several memristor models have been proposed. The memristor is a highly nonlinear component. It relates the electric charge q and the flux linkage, expressed as a time integral of the voltage. The memristor element has the important capability for remembering the electric charge passed through its cross-section and its respective resistance, when the electrical signals are switched off. Due to its nano-scale dimensions, non-volatility and memorizing properties, the memristor is a sound potential candidate for application in computer high-density memories, artificial neural networks and in many other electronic devices.

Harry Denton is a middle-aged professor who leaves his secure post at a London university on account of the sense of failure and embarrassment caused by his wife Anne’s mounting debts. An inheritance left to him by his father enables him to start a new life by buying a small hotel in the Scottish Borders. But in this new context his marriage to Anne proves to be just as hopeless and loveless. He escapes through flights of fancy, frequently contemplating suicide, and becomes obsessed with one of his guests—Eleanor, who introduces him to the ideas of James Redfield in The Celestine Prophecy. Although, ironically, she comes across as a pretty simpleton married to an uncouth double-glazing salesman, she expresses the thinking that, in time, will transform Denton’s life. It is not before he drifts into the violent world of Apartheid South Africa that he finds his dream.
