Lord, have mercy. A raw plea for intervention. The most common prayer in the Bible. And—most remarkably—a request that God has never failed to grant . . . often in surprising ways that have radically transformed individual lives and the trajectory of history itself. In The Mercy Prayer, Robert Gelinas explores the richness of God’s unfailing compassion by blending biblical insights with penetrating personal encounters and keen insight into familiar stories. The result is a practical guide for receiving the mercy we all desperately need and letting it flow from us into the lives of others. The Mercy Prayer reveals: How God’s abundant compassion is at the core of His character and was central to the earthly mission of Jesus The truth that simply praying the Mercy prayer and anticipating mercy’s arrival can soothe a wounded soul and change a life from the inside out Practical ways to carry God’s mercy into the muck and mire of a hurting world, offering comfort and hope in the name of Christ How you can make the most frequent prayer in the Bible your most prayed prayer, too, by learning to pray with every breath you take and every beat of your heart The Mercy Prayer invites each of us to become a student of heavenly compassion and clemency, to immerse ourselves in it, to embrace the responsibility of seeing all life in view of God’s mercy—and to watch as this simple-yet-profound cry reshapes us and our world. Everybody needs mercy.

Do you know about Gods mercy? Mercy can be translated as kindness, loving kindness, good, goodness, pity, and compassion. It is a deep and tender feeling of compassion. God's mercy entails His having a deep and tender feeling of compassion towards us. It is actually being compassionate and aroused by the sight of weakness or suffering. It means to bend or stoop in kindness or loyalty to an inferior person, to favor or bestow something to him and to be considerate often when it is not expected or deserved. The journey to greatness can be very difficult outside the mercy of God. Because of Some Situations and Circumstances; Some People have been destined for a vessel of Dishonor. Some people’s ancestors might have made negative covenants that will affect the generations to come. Some are laboring under unknown curses. Some have done some evil deeds in the past that may be crying against them. The prayer of Mercy can change the situation. Mercy opens heaven on our prayer; mercy prevails over the judgment of the enemies. Mercy draws the attention of God to us. Mercy makes God forgive our sins and show us kindness. Mercy opens the door for miracles. There is no issue that you cry for mercy in your life that will not turn to a miracle. The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. The mercy of God is the anchor of deliverance for humanity.

A reissue of one of Henri Nouwen’s most powerful and most personal books: prayers that “reveal a fearful heart, a cry for mercy, rays of hope, the power of the Spirit, the needs of the world, and finally gratitude.” In his continuing search for a deeper understanding of the spiritual life, Henri Nouwen traveled twice to the Trappist monastery in the Genesee Valley of upstate New York. His first visit inspired The Genesee Diary, a moving account of his daily experiences and of contemporary monastic life. When he returned five years later, the familiar, comfortable daily rhythms of the contemplative life led him to concentrate his attention on meditation. He disciplined himself to write a prayer each day, an endeavor that became this extraordinary book. In these daily prayers, Father Nouwen confronts his own inner chaos as he tries to create a space in his heart where God can dwell. Powerful, searching, and painfully honest, Nouwen’s prayers, confessions, and petitions point to the final goal of all spiritual life: to live unceasingly in the presence of God. Like The Wounded Healer and The Return of the Prodigal Son, A Cry for Mercy is filled with freshness and insight. It speaks directly to the contemporary Christian’s need for a meaningful spirituality, a disciplined inner life, and a real sense of the divine presence in everyday life.

The history of the Divine Mercy devotion is deeply rooted in the experiences and writings of a Polish nun named Saint Faustina Kowalska, who lived in the early 20th century. The essence of the devotion revolves around the infinite mercy of God, as emphasized in the visions and teachings Saint Faustina received.Saint Faustina Kowalska: Born in 1905 in Poland, Helena Kowalska entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in 1925. She later took the name Sister Maria Faustina of the Blessed Sacrament. Throughout her life, she claimed to have mystical experiences and visions of Jesus Christ, particularly emphasizing His Divine Mercy. When I walked into church the following morning, I heard these words inside of me: "Every time you enter the chapel, recite the prayer that I taught you yesterday." I heard in my spirit when I finished the petition, "This prayer will serve to appease My wrath." It will be said for nine days on the rosary beads in the following way: You will say, "HAIL MARY," "ONE OUR FATHER," and "I BELIEVE IN GOD" first. Then, using the OUR FATHER beads, you will recite the following: "In order to atone for our sins as well as the sins of the entire world, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ." Say the following on the HAIL MARY beads: "Have mercy on us and on the whole world, for the sake of His sorrowful Passion." Finally, you shall say these three times: "Have mercy on us and on the entire world, Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One" (Diary, 474-476). "Oh, what wonderful blessings I will bestow upon those who recite this chaplet... My daughter, please write these words down. Tell the world of My kindness; let all people know of My boundless compassion. It is an omen of the end times; the day of justice will follow. Let them drink from the fountain of My mercy while there is still time; let them benefit from the Water and Blood that flowed forth for them (Diary, 848).
