1 & 2 Chronicles are, first and foremost, a sermon meant to foster a right relationship between God and his people. With great perception, the Chronicler shows how the records of Israel reveal the pattern of God's hand in the events of his nation’s history and how, within that pattern, the Lord's constant mercy, love and faithfulness shine through. In this readable and thoughtful commentary, Michael Wilcock explores how once that purpose is grasped, the message of 1 & 2 Chronicles comes alive. The Chronicler’s sermon is a final and momentous look back over the entire Old Testament, and the countless persons named are part of one people of the living God. With perceptive insight, Wilcock guides us through the two halves of the Chronicles, paralleling them the vibrancy, contrast and drama of the Book of Revelation in the New Testament, and showing how the Chronicles make vivid to us the truths by which the Lord's people in every generation are to live. Part of the loved and trusted The Bible Speaks Today series of commentaries, The Message of 1 & 2 Chronicles offers an accessible and thorough exposition of the Biblical text as well as pastoral exploration of the lessons it can teach Christians today. Used by Bible students and teachers around the world, The Bible Speaks Today commentaries are ideal for students and preachers who are looking to delve more deeply into the riches of Scripture. This beautifully redesigned edition has also been sensitively updated to include modern references and use the NIV Bible text. The Message of 1 & 2 Chronicles is perfect for anyone looking for commentaries on Chronicles that will help them understanding its meaning both in its original context and for modern Christians.

A Family Tree written by Andrew Stewart and has been published by Welwyn Commentary S this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with Religion categories.

A readable commentary, with good illustrations and applications, linking well with the New Testament, especially in its pointing towards Christ. Originally written as one book, 1 and 2 Chronicles summarize, not only the history of God's people from the creation of the world until the edict of Cyrus in 538 B.C., but also the theology of the Old Testament - the revelation that God gave of himself at creation, to the patriarchs, through Moses, during the monarchy, exile and restoration. 1 Chronicles takes this narrative up to the establishment of the monarchy under David, culminating in the building of the temple. The underlying message is that of a covenant God who provides salvation for his people, through a Redeemer foreshadowed by the deliverer-kings whom God gave to his people.

2 Chronicles takes up the narrative with the reign of Solomon, the most glorious period in the whole history of Israel, and focuses especially on the construction and dedication of temple as the place where God was to be worshipped in the way he had appointed. Following the division of the kingdom, the Chronicler concentrates almost exclusively on the history of Judah and the godly remnant who remained loyal to the line of David and to the worship of the temple. The book ends on a note of promise as the first exiles prepare to return to the land and rebuild the temple after the seventy years of captivity in Babylon. Throughout we see that, even though God's people may repudiate his covenant with them, God himself remains faithful to his covenant promises. Above all, we are pointed forward to Christ, in whom the promises both of the Messianic King and the temple find their ultimate fulfilment.

Leslie C. Allen introduces students to the 1 & 2 Chronicles in the Old Testament, incorporating insights from over two decades of previous scholarship while grounding his analysis in earlier key works. “A Message for Yehud” sums up what has been judged to be a fundamental motivation underlying the whole book, a conviction that the obligation to “seek the Lord” in the light of the Torah and prophetic texts must be laid on the hearts of the community of Yehud in the fourth century BCE. To this end, using Samuel-Kings as a basis, Chronicles reviewed pre-exilic royal history for positive and negative clues as to how the generation for which it was written might achieve this spiritual ideal. In the book, Allen shows how this program was communicated all through the book by literary and rhetorical means.

This commentary takes full advantage of recent advances in the textual history of Samuel and Kings, demonstrating in many cases that the differences often ascribed to the Chronicler came in fact from the divergent copy of the canonical books he was rewriting. Klein brings to lively expression the unique theological voice of the Chronicler and demonstrates there have been far fewer secondary additions to the text than is normally assumed.
