Christians have always found the book of Acts to be enjoyable, exciting and encouraging. Here we find our own 'roots' as the followers of Jesus and learn what it means to be citizens of heaven while living upon the earth. If the Gospels tell us what the gospel is, Acts tells us what the gospel does. The author keeps the exposition readable and practical drawing us to lift our hearts to Jesus, our Saviour and King. Acts is first and foremost the history of the work of the Holy Spirit in the church. It brings together two great promises of 'another Counsellor', who would lead the disciples into all truth and the Great Commission to preach the gospel to the whole world in the assurance that he would be with them always, 'to the very end of the age'. Acts is also the record of costly campaigning against a fiercely resistant enemy, over the eternal destiny of lost men and women. The sounds of battle echo from almost every scene. But so also does the scent of victory, as lives are changed and the light of Christ spreads from nation to nation! As the book of Acts closes, the work still goes on. The fulfilment of Christ's commission continues today as his followers take up the unfinished task: 'You will be my witnesses ...to the ends of the earth.'

Our promises: 1. Our goal is to bring you high quality Christian publications at reasonable and affordable prices. Therefore all of our works are complete and unabridged unless specifically stated otherwise, which means that unlike some other independent publications you get what you see and pay for. No unplesant surprises. 2. We endeavour to bring you updated editions of classic works. Therefore this work is not a scan, but is a completely digitized version of the original. 3. Unlike, many other independently published works, our publications are easy to read. Therefore you won't find illegible, faded, poor quality photocopies here. Neither will you find poorly done OCR versions of those faded scans either, with illegible "words" that contain all kinds of strange characters like , %, &, etc. Our publications have all been looked over and corrected by the human eye. 4. We can't promise perfection, but we're sure gonna try! The present volume includes the apostolic discourses contained in the earlier chapters of Acts and the Epistles of James, First Peter, Jude, Second Peter, First Timothy, Titus, Second Timothy, Hebrews, First, Second, and Third John, in the order named. The dates of many of these books are uncertain, and no order can claim to be more than approximately chronological. In general, however, the sermons from Acts, the Epistle of James, and the First Epistle of Peter may be said to represent the earlier forms and stages of Christian teaching, while Epistles like Hebrews and First John belong to its later period. The Epistles to Timothy and Titus are included in this volume, partly because so many scholars doubt their Pauline authorship in their present form and, especially, because in any case they reflect the work of Timothy and Titus in ecclesiastical administration more than the theology of the apostle. The first ten Epistles of Paul, reproduced in "The Messages of Paul," present to us the apostle's doctrinal system. The Pastorals, whatever view be taken of their authorship, have little bearing upon that system, but deal with relations and conditions which more appropriately place them in the later group of New Testament writings. The same method of treatment has been adopted as in "The Messages of Paul." The general facts which one should know in order to appreciate the writings comprised in the volume are stated in the Introduction. This is followed by an account of the conditions and problems of the early church which, it is hoped, will throw light upon the messages of the apostles, especially upon the apostolic discourses. Then, to each of the Epistles is prefixed a brief special introduction explaining the nature and aim of the book, with comments on the critical questions which it suggests. Those who wish to read more extensively on these questions are referred to the list of books of reference given in the Appendix.

This study describes the lives of the twelve disciples called by Jesus Christ for training, repentance, and transformation into effective and spirit-filled apostles. They were charged with establishing the Church of Jesus Christ in the hostile world of Jewish, Greek, Roman, and many other groups of intense unbelievers. They were laymen, untrained in deep Jewish doctrine but practiced as businessmen and filled with zeal for the Jewish Messiah to return. They wanted to be a part of his new kingdom and expected major roles in ruling Israel. They became the first of many converts to see that the Jews had missed the heart of Gods message and the new message was that they would die to their own minds, wills, and emotional structures and replace it with the will of their Father through the Holy Spirit. Jesus taught them for more than ten thousand hours of practical ministry, teaching, and supernatural endowment during their time together. This is considerably more hours than it takes to achieve a doctorate in theology today. In this time, they were still incapable of standing up to the Jewish authorities, until endued with power from on high at Pentecost. These secrets, which the apostles found in their ministries, will help the disciple who is serious about transforming his or her life and knowledge of the Gospel into effective ministry.

You don't have to be perfect to do God's work. Look no further than the twelve disciples, whose many weaknesses are forever preserved throughout the pages of the New Testament. Join bestselling author John MacArthur in Twelve Ordinary Men as he draws principles from Christ's careful, hands-on training of the original disciples for today's modern disciple, you! Jesus chose ordinary men--fishermen, tax collectors, political zealots--and turned their weakness into strength, producing greatness from people who were otherwise unremarkable. The twelve disciples weren't the stained-glass saints we imagine. On the contrary, they were truly human, all too prone to mistakes, misstatements, wrong attitudes, lapses of faith, and bitter failure. Simply put, they were flawed people, just like us. But under Jesus' teaching and touch, they became a force that forever changed the world. MacArthur takes you into the inner circle of the disciples--their selection, their training, their personalities, and their incredible impact. As MacArthur took a closer look at the lives of the twelve disciples, he found himself asking difficult questions along the way, including: Why did Jesus pick each of the twelve disciples? How did Jesus teach them everything he could in just eighteen short months? Can the lessons that Jesus taught the disciples can still influence our faith today? In Twelve Ordinary Men, you'll learn that disciples are living proof that God's strength is made perfect in weakness. As you get to know the men who walked with Jesus, you'll see that if he can accomplish his purposes through them, he can do the same through you.
